The player/rper issue with the mudball/snowball memento and harassment of rpers

It's worth pointing out that none of us would know if ZOS gave any reported harassers a social ban.

Right. We can hear about it when the banned party shows up in the forum and complains. That does not happen often, and when it does, the mods lock it and it quickly falls into oblivion.

People might assume nothing has happened because the person is still in the game, and that might not be a correct assessment, either. ZOS does tend to be a little slower about responding to tickets than I think is wise, and they often address the offense with warnings and suspensions, rather than permanent bans. The player being in the game does not necessarily mean that they have not had contact with the ToS Team. It also does not mean that they will stop harassing, if they have.

I'll just claim I'm RP'ing when I mudball you. There, not reportable. What I would like to see is an actual RP channel added into the game so I won't see any of that incredibly cringe dialogue while in towns. And no, disabling /em or/s is not an option as that is used for normal gameplay (/s more than /em). Add in a RP channel that we can disable, and have RP'ers that actually use that channel, would probably alleviate most of this. While I do disagree with people mudballing you for hours (if this is even a real thing and not just an extreme exaggeration) I don't agree with removing the ability for me to randomly mudball someone. Me throwing a mudball at a character once in a while is not harassment. But yeah, doing it for an extended amount of time I would consider harassment.

I actually think that if you roleplay as an evil character (like if you're in the thieves guild or dark brotherhood) then you can use the mudballers to your advantage to simulate a scenario where you're an unlikable individual in the world of tamriel and where ever you go you get mudballed for all the evil things you've done in the game. Even if you're just doing regular RP you could set an idea where these areas you visit are full of miscreants and bad people and being mudballed only heightens the immersion that you've set for yourself.

Either that or just find the most isolated locations in the game to do your RP. It is an online game after all, you ARE going to get your immersion broken at many points.

The problem is the player who wants to harass, and that can only be resolved by ZOS through the ticket system.

    Currently, yes.

However, they could employ a system, like GW2, where they allowed people to exclude themselves from being targeted by other people's momentos.

Yes, they could do that. They might even consider it. I have no idea.

The problem that I have is that it is not the mudballs that are the problem. It is not the mementos that are the problem. It is the person that is the problem.

The mudball is just the tool. When that person wants to harass someone, they will use whatever tool is at hand, and it does not have to be a memento. There are plenty of ways to harass someone in this game.

This is why the player that is deliberately and purposely harassing needs to be reported, not ignored.

I have no problem at all with people reporting them, but if you block/reduce the number of their mudballs and they then use their words (and their words are bad enough), that is already a potentially bannable offence.

Maybe they could still do other things, that would require reporting, but at least it narrows it down a bit.

It would also mean ZOS were less swamped with complaints about harassment, as there would no longer be this particular loophole, at least.

Another troll some people employ is going around switching off people's lights in their houses.

But, that can be remedied, if you are on PC, so can have EHT, by switching all the lights back on in one go and (if you know who did it) by banning them from your houses.

Yes, they can still do something else, but at least they can't do that anymore, on that account.

Excessive mudballing, of RPers, would seem to be a similar kind of troll to switching off a housing person's lights and yet, unlike the housing community, RPers have no way of remedying it without putting in a ticket.

Using your logic that you'll just say you're role-playing I'll apply one of rps number one rules: in-character decisions result in in-character consequences. We all know about the elf in stocks in Rawl-ka for throwing rotten tomatoes.

    ...or turn if off :)

You can only memento someone, if you're open to it yourself. Seperate option for character effecting emotes. Let those who want have their snowball and feces fight, let those with other foci do their thing?

Shouldn't be hard to implement, like "No duel's - thanks sittingdevice who ambushes everyone at a wayshrine hoping to find a newbie..."

Should be off by default, but part of a VERY clear tutorial, maybe even starting quest, since it seems we have to educate on manners from the get-go :)

That option is not available on console

I agree that there should be an option to opt out of being affected by things like mudballs, snowballs, and pies of misrule. There is not reason why there shouldn't be a toggle for this, just like every other social interaction. If they allow us to auto decline duels, then they should allow us to auto decline memento use.
Dear Devs, how about this simple solution:
    1. Mudballs, Snowballs etc. also trigger a duel request.
    2. People who opted out of duels are not affected by mudballs, snowballs etc.
    3. People who not opted out of duels are affected and can accept the duel request.
