What does mean to be a dps on your favorite class as dps? How would you describe damage dealer role in elder scrolls to you? There's no right or wrong just what does it mean to you.

I just want enough damage to get through the game without being ashamed I'm not BiS or too low to be ignored by others.

25k seems to be the accepted value, so that's what I'm going to work toward.

If you're a magicka warden (or now a magicka templar too), it's like using a wet noodle instead of a staff to deal damage with.

If you are a DD you deal high DPS.

I am a DD and I deal low DPS. Though I don't care, because it is still enough for 90% of this games content. Mabye some day I ll reach the 25k.

However, I just find it utterly stupid that you need to "exploit" a broken animation system (animation canceling) to get peak DPS.

"Hey it is not a bug, it's a feature"

    Sure... go tell some designer...

Weaving is just a broken animation system.

Light Attack Weaving is also now part of the Level Up Advisor's tips. So while I think ZOS needs to do a better job of teaching how to DPS, this is a step in the right directions.

Calling a DD as a "DPS" is still wrong no matter how many times it has been discussed. You don't call your Healer "HPS" nor you call your Tank "TPS" or "Taunter".

Kill stuff. Don’t die. Keep my health a little bit more than the enemy’s. If it falls below. It’s definitely the healers fault.

25K is where I aim at most my guys. I meet plenty of 38 to 46 k players. While some times it is quite evident they are pulling really good damage, there are other times I see these perfect rotations have been a waste of time. Like on bosses that ping pong around all over the place. Or port. Right after they set an ulti.

There’s a lot more to this DPS thing then beating on a dummy that doesn’t strike back.

Survive the fight. You all know how that works right. I find these full damage setups very difficult to play in some content.

Setting things on fire or drowning them in a lake of lightning! Blam! Zap! etc. I love it! It's very therapeutic regardless of what DPS you are getting. You know if you're getting enough because things die without too much hassle. I disregard training dummy numbers because as already pointed out, they don't jump out of your AOEs or fight back or interrupt your perfect rotation. As to the petty, boring and nonsensical argument over whether it is DD or DPS, I am neither, I am an ANNIHILATOR! Ahem, so yeah, that's how I feel about it anyway...

Honestly never heard this "DD" thing until the arguments on this forum. Everywhere else.... "are you in tank spec, or DPS spec?" "got tank & heals, need DPS", etc.

(this seems to fit in the same category as arguing with people over "ATM Machine" "But you're saying 'machine' twice!" :D )

To my magsorc, it means having a strong enough shield to make a dragon wince so I can take some heat (alot if needed), having the strongest burst heal in the game to help allies because being the last one standing is not as fun as having team stay alive, and dealing damage. Given my desire to have adequate defense and a basic team heal, I gladly accept delivering solid but not omg dps - to me that means +15K. And I don't care about vet content.

To my bow/bow stamsorc, it also means plenty of toughness (surge + hurricane) while delivering solid (but, again, not omg) damage. More importantly on a bow/bow character, it means not contributing to bow/bow stereotypes by NOT pew pewing while dragging a boss all over and out of AoEs. Like most dps, she maneuvers to keep the boss in the AoE killing zone which, in her case, is the radius of arrow volley and caltrops. That said, don't laugh at her light attacks since they average 7K a pop and contribute to her 20K dps - especially when light weaving.

In general though, the title dps means to me that I reliably deliver damage while knowing and easing the roles of my tank, healer and other dps.

"We put something in our game that we don't know how to fix so we're just going to call it a mechanic and say it's working as intended." Ignoring the fact that it is a very ping dependant mechanic.

Kill stuff fast, pay attention to mechanics, rez dead people, listen to tank and heal's calls, and what not. It is also required by Imperial law that DPS blame the healer for them dying.
