Hey there, everyone. We are currently investigating the "unknown error" issue that many of you are encountering -- the error may be similar to the issue we've been following in a similar thread located here. We'll provide an update as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience.

Also having the same issue, along with a friend of mine.. hope you guys are working hard to get this fixed because when I drop 80 dollars on a video game that I'm constantly struggling to play it starts to get irritating to say the least.. should be giving out some sort of compensation for such a poor delivery.

Lol I agree but don't count on that.
People, keep posting details about your situation... Hardware, OS Levels, Antivirus, ISP's, Country/City, etc. Anything that could help troubleshoot.
I know I shouldn't be the one asking but although support haven't showed up yet, these threads combined have thousands of views already.

EDIT: JasonL did show up 2 minutes before I posted! Thanks

    Hi guys,

First try to run the repair function.

If the issue persists after running a repair make sure that nothing is impairing your connectivity (For instance if you're using wireless, try a to connect via cable, make sure your firewall or your router are not blocking the game)

If you are on Mac you can also try this small trick:
Remove the QuickTime plugin from its default location (by default /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin) and place it on your desktop (Note: do not delete it. Just move it).

Network Administrator by trade. Tried repair, tried game consultant, checked antivirus, turned off software firewall, turned off firewall hardware, copied the game to another disk drive, restarted computer, ipconfig/release /renew....taking suggestions, several of my friends play without this issue, I'd like to be one of those.

Happens during zone changes that I get "unknown error" then returned to login screen. I can login and create characters fine, but then trying to renter the game following one of these errors, I'm met with Requesting Character Load that never ends.

Currently on The Venom of Ahknara quest. I've been disconnected nearly every time attempting to leave the dungeon and into the Stonefall zone. Here I go into the trap door....

Working this 3rd time of 8. Going to get some play time in.

I was able to get in for a moment at around 1pm, then it kicked me. It seems to be partially client and partially the server.

Hey there, everyone.Thank you all for being patient while we've been looking into the problem.

We want to request some information from you all. If you're still receiving the "Unknown Error" message, please open the launcher, and click the settings gear. Click "About," then select "Game Consultant," and click "Run Tests." This will run a special diagnostic tool that will create a .txt file that will provide us with more information about your machine. Provide us with the report by attaching the file here so we can look into it further. Thank you, guys!

I ran a WHOIS on the netscan information and the IPs returning TIME_WAIT belonged to Amazon (so, the store) and Akamai.

I don't think I'm having the same problem as most here because I'm not getting the continuous loopbacks. (127.0's)

    - Akamai (Maryland, so near ZOS)

    - Merit Network (Ann Arbor, and I live in Detroit)

I have been waiting over 25 hours to get a proper reply to my ticket (I got one reply 11 hours in asking if my log in info was correct...really!) for this so this is the best I can do

Edit: It's worth noting that I am fully unable to enter the game I just get a unending loading screen upon login which eventually leads to the "unknown error" others seem to be able to play for a short time before getting the error.

Harborage quests, lots of zone in and out; was due. Unknown error followed by requesting character load.

I have to kill the client to get away from Requesting Character Load. Then a reboot/ipconfig /release /renew often hastens the 'timeout' for me to reconnect.

Nonetheless, I've been disconnected and hung up on login well over 2 dozen times in the last 24-hours. This is more than a nuissance.

Each and everytime this has happened during some type of zone transfer. My very first one was while being sucked up out of the prison. Upon my return my character fell in the pit and died. Wasn't expecting to get smoked that early :(

I have two tickets open with support. One for the 'unknown error' and a more descriptive surrounding the 'requesting character load' inability to continue. Neither has resulted in customer contact as of yet.

    Requested file attached:

Trying to run the test, but nothing happens... the computer spins up for a few seconds and then it just sits there.
Let it do that for 20 minutes while taking my dog for a walk and nothing had happend when I came back.

Requesting character load...still; will check post time for how many minutes this has been, but clearly the more disabling portion of the issue. This is after an ipconfig /release /renew; trying a reboot next.

I found a temporary fix to this issue last night after using the knowledge found in Merianya's post.

    1) Download Battleping http://www.battleping.com/
    2) Once installed run as administrator and select free trial.
    3) Select a server with good ping.
    4) Select the Game Connection Button.
    5) Once Battleping says connected launch ESO. (don't close the Battleping program)
    6) Enjoy

Please note however the trial only lasts 20 mins a turn before kicking you, so if that starts to annoy you like it did me you can purchase membership. Cost me $5 for 30 days so I am not complaining as it actually lets me play!

Glad to see this issue is finally being acknowledged but still... it's pissing me off, especially as I can play at random intervals for a few hours and just when I think the issue is resolved... boom, disconnected.

Post reboot, and a little stalling on my part, Still with Requesting character load...(any character, not just the one I've been playing).

Half an hour with broken ability to login due to a hung session, caused by 'unknown error'.

If you have to clean this up in pieces, start with the hung sessions.

I ran more scans for the netstat and I think I might have found the cause of the issue.

I started getting [::1]s at the end (possibly related to the 127s others are getting) and that's when the connections failed.

So, as I have said before in a comment of mine, I was getting kicked out every time when I tried to change zones. Fixed it by using a VPN (stupid as hell, since I had to pay for that), but now I am getting kicked out every couple of minutes...

running battleping trial; still stuck at Requesting character load...

I'm honestly not sure if I've spent more time in game or attempting to get into the game at this point. My wife questions my sanity, but it is a fun game, when it's working.

I also forgot to mention In order to get mine to work I had to turn my firewall and antivirus totally off.

I however was only stuck at joining a server not character load.

Not that I'd like to leave my computer running in this state, but in an attempt to make this game work, I'm not currently running firewall or antivirus.
