The exploit ban is too harsh.

Normally you wouldn’t hear me say anything like this but personally I think the permanent ban is much too harsh. Especially for the first time offenders. I know some of the people who have done the exploit personally and they are very dedicated players. Some of them have been here since day 1 and spent thousands of dollars on content for this game. And to be banned for using a glitch that exhists in the programming may be wrong but a permanent ban is far too harsh. Now I don’t pve because iv got no interest but now iv seen some longtime players get the boot for something that while morally wrong isn’t nearly as severe as some of the chats going on in game. Iv seen people get harassed to the point where people even make Facebook accounts to harass players but they never got banned. Personally I would give a 1 month ban. Removal of ALL items and the achievement and skin. At least then the punishment is severe as to make a point not to do it again but doesn’t completely destroy someone’s hard work. While it may have taken zos months to make their trial. Some players have well over 2 years invested in a character. I don’t know about you but unless your actually causing someone harm then I think a permanent ban is too harsh and I feel zos should send a warning and let them know that the next offense is the end. But that’s just me.

They deliberately camped outside the boss room, and ground down the boss without taking damage. This could well have taken them over 10 minutes, depending on their damage output.

They didn't do this accidentally.

They did this intentionally, to get a server first hardmode clear.

After they were banned they came crawling back saying, "no, we weren't going to use it for the bragging rights."

Right.

No sympathy here.

No, it's not. They cheated. They knew they cheated. This was not an accident.

And all this talk about just taking a skin away or gear, etc. is not a deterrent. "ooo, I lost the stuff I wouldn't have got anyway and had to take a few weeks off the game, that'll teach me not to do it again next time" said no one ever

I think that first time offenders should get a month and times after that need to be permanent perhaps but if it really is a permanent ban for a first time offender that is a stupid decision to put it mildly. Banning people who fund the game will result in the game not lasting long.

Its not something you can do it accidentally like gap closing into the keep bug (from wall doors). It takes a while to execute this and they knew what they were doing all the while.

They made their choices, they knew it was wrong. You don't get a free pass for first time offenses as if they're lesser transgressions, you get what you deserve.

Alternately, not banning people who break the rules on a regular basis and make the experience for other players, while creating the perception of the game being a cheater's paradise is, of course, the key to making a long lasting game... no, wait.

If they spent that much time and money on this game, and had that much love for the game, you'd think their response to discovering the exploit would have been to test it out and promptly inform ZOS, openly explaining that they did the exploit for testing purposes and that they are completely fine with ZOS removing achievements/skins/rewards/ etc.

But apparently they didn't love the game or the challenge enough to refrain from exploiting something that (while it may be a part of the game) ZOS obviously didn't intend to be how the boss fight was defeated.

Sounds like the OP is the one who got banned from game but not the forums. If not, ban you too for even supporting cheaters. Players like that who ruin it for the rest of us.

They knew what they were doing...these are the consequences of their actions, end of the story.

I'm quite sure they would not perma ban anyone who ran something once and happened to find a way (bug) to make something easier and moved on, never coming back. I'm sure the exploiters probably came back with their friends and took more advantage of it than that.

Or as the previous poster said - they have done similar things before.

Considering all the other exploits that never received perna bans.
Reinstate them then announce that perma ban will be what happens to any future exploits.

The form of punishment doesn't have to be announced, you're not supposed to exploit or cheat, regardless of what the punishment may or may not be. It's fully up to the company's discretion.

You don't agree to receive a temp ban for breaking the ToS, you agree to obeying the ToS.

You get no power, no say, over what happens to your account when you invalidate what you agree to.

Cheaters aren't owed anything.

They were, apparently, selling runs in zone. So... yeah...

Accidentally bug something out and exploit it? Yeah, file a bug report. If you are banned, you can point back to that and say, "it was an honest mistake, and I took steps to try to help." Chances are pretty good you'll actually get that overturned.

Find an exploit and then try to make money off it? Yeah... that's not going to go over well.

It wasn't an accident, it was intentional, and there are achievements and a skin reward involved. They knew exactly what they were doing and deserve the punishment for intentionally and knowingly exploiting a bug in the game.

You know, I bet it sucks to know that people you know, even people you might have been friends with, aren't coming back to the game. That they aren't coming back to the game because they decided to do something stupid. They probably laughed it off like "Oh, ZOS'll just slap us on the wrist like they do everyone else."

And now they aren't coming back.

I bet that sucks to know they aren't coming back because they broke the Terms of Service and so ZOS decided that this was the exploit they were going to take seriously. But, you know, as sorry as I am for you that people you know aren't going to be around to play with...they made their choice to do that stupid thing. They have to live with their decisions, decisions that had a consequence for you as well. That sucks. But the consequences for their stupid decision are on them, not you and not ZOS.

First time of discovering/using it ok. Reporting ok. Anything else more than that and there is no excuse. There is no reason to discuss this. People are responsible for their actions and should deal with the consequences unless they aren't adult?

I'm going to just passively watch this develop. I'm expecting exploiters to be back in the game within 2 weeks because that's the precedent set by ZOS so far.

Not saying this is right or wrong, but I don't understand some of the comments. Someone said about coding. So Zenimax can't do their job, so they punish people for something they made a mistake on.

So that is like me yelling at my kids for eating the sweats or cookies that I put right in from of them when I could have put them away. Maybe Zenimax should actually do their job and maybe try their product and do quality assurance work before just putting something out.

Also, how is this a cheat? Again Zenimax put it in the game. It's not like we coded it in the game or used a mod that let us do this. Zenimax did this. If Zenimax didn't want this to be done, they shouldn't have made it then. Accidental or not, they didn't fix it so ban people instead? This is a video game. Unless you are programming something or using a mod to make it easier, it's not a cheat. I am not saying it's right, but then again, if Olympic officials put out preforming enhancing drugs in front of athletes, they shouldn't be banning people for what they did with their actions.

I just don't get Zenimax. They don't ban bots, they keep letting them in the game, and this upsets many people, and when you have actual humans play the game, they ban them because of their incompetence. So they don't refund people's time when they can't play their game because of their incompetence and then ban people because of their incompetence. How sad Zenimax. How sad.

Geeze, here I was about to get a year subscription. While non of the effects me, Zenimax attitude, is not one I one to support. Going to think long and hard now if I want to come back and support a company like this.

It's one thing to do it ONCE... and then... "hey, something's not right here, think I'll report it and wait until it gets fixed"... it's another to be like, "hey, somethings not right here, let's take advantage of it while it lasts."

I have absolutely NO sympathy for those who got banned and I am glad to see ZOS finally taking a "ZERO Tolerance" attitude towards exploiters. Now that the word is out, perhaps next time something like this happens, players will report it and wait until it's fixed to run the content, or if there is a way, just avoid the exploit altogether.

Cheats should just be kicked out of the game, and no excuses. Spending a lot of money on the game doesn't buy you immunity, it just underlines how stupid it is to risk exploiting when you've invested so much time and money in the game.

For first time offenders, small ban (not perma) and removal of the trial titles. I think that's more fair imo. If they violated rules more than once then maybe look into longer bans.
