Anyone else play this game *sort of* like a single player (so far)?

No, I'm definitely playing this game like a typical MMO
I play very socially, but i see lots of posts from others who prefer to play solo and it makes me happy to see them. It is a sign of a good game when many different players of different styles and backgrounds can play how they choose.

I'm not a fan of guilds either. Started my own thinking it might be a bit better, and it was fun and awesome, until it wasn't. Had so much managing to do, I spent the entire play time just sorting out ***, booting jerks from the guild, being complained at by members for their minor problems constantly, and dealing with crap, that I just stopped.

I don't know if it's a sign of a good game. It's just I like this universe the game takes place in and there's nothing else to play after Skyrim. It's like the prequel Star Wars films, I'll take what I can get since that was all there was at the time (though I did like Sith). For me my real life job is social and going through that in a game which is my time away from my job is not what I want. A duo or literally handful of people to play with that I knew would be more ideal. I play late nights so it seems impossible to find.

Okay maybe not a good game in your opinion but at least one that fulfills many different roles for many people.

Whether you are happy playing it or just settling for it for now is up to you. The fact that i can be happy as a social person playing it and any other solo person can be happy playing it in MY opinion is a sign of a good (well rounded) game.

It's not terrible at all but I wish certain aspects were more solo friendly. Those aspects are where a few forced grouping mechanics come into play at least if you want to get specific gear or some unlock. theres definitely more positives than negatives but those few negatives really frustrate me.

Started out during beta this way, pretty much how I played the single player TES games, just exploring the world, talking to NPCs, completely ignoring the main quest. Didn't even use wayshines for several months because I don't fast travel in Skyrim. During this time there were not a lot of concurrent players and you might run into one or two people while exploring and team up for a while to do some quest or even a group dungeon.

I don't have experience with other MMOs and didn't plan to PVP or even level up any character to max. (In Skyrim I would just retire characters whenever the combat becomes too easy and roll a new one) Then one day they asked everyone to go to Cyrodiil to participate in filming a big battle video for a trailer. Mind was blown. Suddenly I was in this huge sandbox world with a medieval siege warfare system that turned out to be more fun than the rest of the game.

Ended up spending most of the beta period in Cyrodiil, even sometimes teaming up with random players from enemy factions to explore dungeons and the towns. At some point during a battle in which our side was heavily outnumbered by the enemy faction, someone invited me to join their group. They explained what Teamspeak was and I downloaded it. PVP turned out to be a rather different experience in a Teamspeak group. I mean it's not the same to frantically type "hey watch out there is a dude behind you!" etc.

After launch I discovered how much fun it is to research various gear and skill combinations to come up with build ideas and began to practice PVP more, eventually joined a dueling guild, but now I just use the guild slots for traders.

These days I don't play in any groups, however. If I have a little time after work I just want to hop on for a few hours and wander around solo in Cyrodiil or random Battlegrounds matches. Feels a lot more relaxing to play solo with no obligations compared to joining groups. Also our cat chewed up the mic cable and I never got around to replacing it.

If you want you can join us. Ingame name is on my signature. We've now moved on to doing daily dungeons (finished all public) but most of the times we do our own thing and joke around.

    Example:
Friend: Oh sorry I messaged you, you're in a dungeon
Me: It's okay, I think they can wipe here and there, I can chat
    Friend: lol

    Or:

Friend: Of course, it had to be White Gold Tower.
    Me: Of course.

I mostly play it like I would a solo game. I do enjoy mixing in the mmo elements as well though. I trade with other players, I fight a world boss while collaborating with a stranger or two and maybe even hop in and do a group dungeon, a dolmen or a round of Battlegrounds. It's my option though, and most of the time I just quest solo. I don't mind the presence of other players doing the same things next to me though.

I like the busy towns, that's about it.
I much prefer empty country side, tombs, and dungeons.
Wish I could add an option to enter the world and dungeons solo, or only with the people in my party, like Guild Wars.
Especially on quests to enter a dungeon, and see 12 people running around, fighting for bosses, or waiting for them...
I've even had quests complete even though I didn't touch the boss, and not in any party... sucks.

That's why I don't even acknowledge any DLC until long after its "old", so hopefully most of the masses have left the area.
I'd be so happy if one day I could log in, create a party with my wife, and travel Tamriel together with no one in sight.

What? You mean it's not single player?
I don't like formal grouping; never had, going all the way back to Ultima Online and EQ. I do like, however, working side-by-side with other players, especially in delves, dungeons, and fighting boss mobs... but grouping isn't essential. Damage dealers do damage; tanks tank; and healers heal... you don't have to be formally grouped -- and constrained -- to do that.
I especially enjoy going after boss mobs; on my Templar, I'll heal everyone present... never have to do a lick of damage, but enjoy keeping everyone alive.
That to my mind is real cooperation... not forced grouping.
And -- no offense to anyone; each to their own -- I absolutely HATE guilds of all types. Little whiny kids: "Can you give me some gold? Can you give me these crafty resources? Can you drop everything and help me on this quest; I don't care that you're four zones away...? Can you make this for me, that for me, and the other thing for me? Hey, I wanna do this; I don't wann do that! Don't wanna! Don't wanna!"
    On and on and on...

In huge trade guild on Na Ps4 side but tnh , its cliquer than high school. Ask something in gchat you're lucky if anyone responds. Happily take your dues and donations but couldn't be bothered unless you are "one of the buds". If it weren't for selling , I'd pretty much find guilds useless.

They ever get smart and implement a global AH I'll happily go guileless again. To date still have never done a single group task at all.

I am in a trade guild because that is how you make money.

I am also in a PvP guild because sometimes I need to level PvP skill lines. I also enjoy the people. But I haven't done PvP in 2+ months. During the anniversary I did a lot of Cyrodiil dailies for motifs, but only the PvE ones.

I was in an active guild at launch and spent a lot of time on Teamspeak and did a lot of group dungeons, but it was all distracting from enjoying the game. Group dungeons are particularly annoying. At launch, we would all listen to the dialog. Now with the daily pledges and random dungeon daily, everyone is just rushing through.

Day to day I don't interact with others much. When there isn't content I'm interested in playing, I just take a break from the game. I don't pursue BiS gear. I do like leveling each class to experience the playstyle.

I could see myself enjoying doing vet dungeons and trials regularly, but it is hard to block the time.

Yes, sort of. I play this game as a world with other people in it. Sometimes we meet up and we might group up, or RP, or craft or just chat. I've been in some good guilds over the years.

But this "MMO = Group Content" rubbish? Or worse, "MMO = PvP/endgame"? Minotaur dung. I've been playing these things since they were text based. Those two concepts can be dropped in a hole as far as I am concerned.

Based on how I played, can't choose from those options...

In open world I like to go alone since it's my habit from single player games. However, it's nice to see other players, fun to kill mobs and bosses with them, but don't really need to be grouped. When it comes to harvesting nodes, chests, heavy sacks - game is not friendly, I don't like that players have to compete for those things. We even have to compete for bosses in a way that 12 top get loot :| Holiday events which required boss farming and Molag Bal in sewers come to mind...
I like that some quests can be shared with group and progress is shared too like Gold Coast minotaur daily when different 3 players just need to pick one relic each and it counts for them all.

In dungeons I really like groups - cooperative content is fun when group members help each other. I also love how all chests and sacks are for everyone, this is truly great. But... When I go alone if possible, I can loot each backpack and urn, check all corners of dungeon for chests (even if I don't need any set from it) and sacks, take time for screenshots :D With group, this exploration part is almost always skipped :/
Also when I'm alone I don't skip mobs - and for some reason groups often skip mobs even if they have high damage to kill them fast :/ While I had access to RoM dungeon and did maybe 15 runs, I never got that little achievement for killing all enemies there...

In Cyrodiil, I would love to have organized group, but there are lot of trust issues and toxic environment... So all my time in Cyrodiil I was usually not grouped, alone when possible, or just where all the action is with lot of other players around. It's great disadvantage when everyone does their own thing there... I often smile when I remember how somebody said nice phrase like "50 solo players went in same direction"

Hmm. I know ESO tends more towards single-player types (I mean, I myself started playing as a purely solo player expecting Skyrim II), but I am surprised at how lopsided the ratio that I'm seeing here, particularly since the forums tend to bias more towards the MMO crowd than the single-player crowd.

Sure, I picked "I play solo" , but not really all the time.

Like many have said, I too love all the real people running around, I don't feel alone. I play with my wife on here sometimes, my main is a master crafter so making anything we both need is fun. I am in a trading guild to sell my wares, its fun.

Doing dungeons like "folly", etc with random others is a blast. I don't do PVP much but have gotten in on a few Zergs, wow, loved that!

For the most part there are a lot of real nice people in this game, helping someone when I can is nice. Yes, I like solo most of the time, but I am glad this isn't a Solo game, all the real people in it make it more fun :)

I play with my RL friends that are still playing this often enough, but most of the time I'm soloing around, doing my own thing at my own pace on my own time.

There is absolutely nothing about Elder Scrolls that isn't deeply rooted in the single player experience. I wouldn't touch this game with a ten foot pole until One Tamriel at least did away with some of the worst of the arbitrary MMOifications, like level-bounded zones.

One of the greatest thing about every Elder Scrolls game I've ever played, and the reason I've been a fan of the series since Daggerfall blew me away roundabout 20 years ago, is my freedom to pick a direction and go. If I follow the main story or never even pay attention to it, I'll find a vast array of adventure to have and stories to play through.

I played Daggerfall a lot, and I didn't complete the main story for at least two years after getting the game. I didn't even know there was a main story for probably about the first year, and I didn't care.

Turning it into an MMO was as stupid and useless to a player like myself as would have been turning it into a pinball game.

So, in the post One Tamriel ESO experience, I find it to be reasonably acceptable. There's still more MMOification than I would at all prefer to see, but there's nothing I can do about it, there's nothing that ZOS will ever do about it and I can either suck it up and deal with it or pack myself up and find something else to play.

The ease with which I'm able to shut other people off makes this game infinitely better. Other people are most of what makes these games suck when suck they do anyway.

Yes, and I love it. I will group with people who were already friends I knew before who lured me into the game, but I'm not keen on throwing myself out into the wide world of strangers. Sometimes I have to and it's stressful. I dislike competition with other players, that's just not fun for me. It feels like inconvenience rather than challenge. I still wish they'd make a clone of this game but set it up as single player with the capacity for making your own private server to give others access to, like Neverwinter Nights, so you could host friends by choice.
