Glad I live in EU, where one person has no power to make such changes and if they attempted it, everyone would be at their throats and the ideas would be scrapped. The only thing I know for certain and is officially confirmed by 1st and 3rd parties (government and ISP providers - confirmed by independant pro-consumer agencies) is that ISP can only fish for suspicious activities such as torrenting from blocked illegal sites and/or visiting illegal sites that contain illicit content (i won't name it here but i'm fairly sure you know what i'm referring to), and even then they are not allowed to disclose any information or browsing histories (my provider has specifically stated that they don't even collect personal browsing history, except there are algorythms in place that detect connection attempts to sites with illegal content, but they are not accessible unless you use proxies/VPN's/TOR as they are blocked).
They issue a automated warning, first on the browser, then on a letter/e-mail and lastly comes termination of service if continued attempts are made. Yet they are still not allowed to disclose any information to third parties whatsoever. They are only allowed to sort it amongst themselves and the consumer, or in worst case - only with a court order (if a user is a suspect criminal or on tags/parole etc).

It also helps to configure the websites and browser - select not to send or collect data off your system or browser (and yes, it does work), or just use a VPN - they are cheap, reliable, easy to setup and for the most part 99% secure.
That will prevent any phishing attempts, data collection, monitoring and spying on you, I mean... they are there for that specific reason, and now that Trump is in power - I bet Americans will want to use them even more.
Slightly different in UK now thanks to the snoopers charter. Now any government organisation can get a full list of your visited sites without a warrant.
We let that one through without any fuss which makes me worried for all the debates over encryption in the UK right now.

Yeah but that is the government, it's slightly different than selling off your online life to say Amazon or eBay so they can DDoS your inbox about their upcoming n*pple-tassles deals. Governments use it to catch terrorists, criminals etc, which I believe has saved many lives at this point (how many terrorists have been cought early thanks to exposing their online activities).
It's not like they are using it to spy on your p*rn monitoring habits, I hardly think they give a sh*t about that, instead they need that policy so they can access a suspects online activity to find out whether it confirms their suspicions, without jumping through 200 legal loops due to super-strict online security laws (They still apply to everyone else, except for the authorities that are there to keep you safe).
I am not bothered by that - if you got nothing to hide and are a law abiding citizen, you got nothing to worry about.

And Germany, as far as I know, is coming up with some weird *** (thanks to Heiko Maas) that would allow anyone to ask companies for the personal information they have about their users (to sue them - of course not to abuse that data in any way...) (which could mean the "end of anonymity on the web" (if that ever existed)). It's called "Entwurf eines Gesetzes zur Verbesserung der Rechtsdurchsetzung in sozialen Netzwerken" for those who are interested.

I guess the world is going full ***...
