We need a true auction house. With auction only and NO buyout.

No buyout? wtf. NO! I'm not going to wait 5 days just for a carrot. If i'm going to have to wait 5 days I might as well just go farm it myself. Plus, if I were to bid for a silly carrot I might even risk being outbid so now what? Bid for another carrot and wait another couple of days. LOL. No thanks. Current system far outclasses the "No Buyout AH".

And don't even get me started with the trolls who would intentionally drive the prices up by going into a bid war.
I agree, most time I use guild traders is because I want something fast.
You need that carrot to make food for dungeon run, you can not wait days.
Need to buy low level crafting mats for gearing up alt, alt is 10 level more then item arrive.
The only use for an non buyout action house would be expensive and rare items.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

What global AH does is making all prices on the same lvl (you wont be able to buy something cheaper as it is now, if something is worth 20k you wont find anybody who would sell it for 15k, you will have prices like 19999, 19998 etc), it helps with creating monopoly of rare goods (there are 3 items on AH, each worth 500k, someones buys all of them, does it next day and next day if any, then after a week he starts to sell them for 2kk and buys all the rest if something is sold for lower price, all he needs to do is sit at AH. Now he would have to visit at least best trader spots and dig through them so its much much longer and harder), AH makes things harder to sell (oh Ive just refined 10 temp alloys, Im gonna sell it. Whats the lowest price? 10k ea? Ok so ill sell them for 9,5 ea. Few minutes later some guy does the same thing but he sets his price at 9499 so he is at first page with best price. Suddenly you are on 4th page after few minutes.)

Trust me Ive seen it all already in each mmo with AH. Dont go that way...

    Long live the guild traders.

    This ^^^

Because a true auction house is worse than a central trade kiosk.

But both are several orders of magnitude better than the current system.

The decentralised kiosk system is - without doubt - the very worst trade system I have ever seen in any MMORPG.

I understand why they wanted to do it this way - but they got just about every aspect of it wrong - it needs a massive rethink, from the ground up, to make it anything like sustainably viable.

That said I don't want a Global AH (especially one with no buyouts) - this is supposed to be a game, a hobby, something that is fun, and that means some significant degree of convenience and ease when it comes to trading.

A no-buyout AH while offering much greater ease of access (to both sellers and buyers) offers much less convenience. One step forward and two steps back is no real improvement.

We could use two things: commodities exchange and craft orders. Not instead of guild traders, but as an addition to them.

Commodities exchange would be used to buy and sell large amount of crafting materials, only crafting materials and nothing but crafting materials.

Craft orders would serve as sort of a player-run crafting writs. You would select an item you want crafted, pick the stats and deposit the money and materials. A crafter would browse the list of available orders and pick the ones they want to fulfil. After accepting an order, it would be reserved to their name and they would have a hour to come back with the item and deposit it in order to pick up the reward.

I'd really like to be able to buy and sell by auction. I don't actually mind if it's through guild traders or a separate system, I just think for certain items it's a better way to determine a good price. Also I actually enjoy bidding on auctions and waiting to see if I get it. (No it's not ideal for all items, but this wouldn't replace the guild store system so you'd have the option to use whichever is best for what you're buying or selling.)

Only thing is I wouldn't restrict which items players can list. Leave it up to players to decide what they offer for sale and what actually sells (determined by buyers bidding on items they want and not the ones they don't). If nothing else it'd be less work than someone at ZOS constantly updating a list of "high value" items as the flavour of the month builds change, balance updates change what players want, new stuff is added etc.

I don't understand why so many people find this concept confusing. Basically right now we have Amazon (but guild specific) and this would give us eBay as well.

You wouldn't need to wait 5 days for a carrot, as carrots fall outside the very narrow restriction of limited high value items that the OP is proposing should be covered by his auction house idea.

How he intends people should be able to buy and sell other stuff is not stated.

The whole concept is crazy in my view, totally not thought through.

All the present system needs is to be opened up to more traders through a NPC trader in each location where non-guild members plus those who belong to an unsuccessful guild can list a limited number of items at a high commission that is shared between the guilds trading in that location. That plus a decent search function for buyers would improve the present system greatly and allow all the players to trade without prices being artificially inflated due to the severe restriction in supply that is inevitable with the present system that does very well for the few that participate in it while denying everyone else reasonable access to trading which is a core aspect of any MMO.

Creating an elite item auction house with a built-in purchase deferment mechanism is no solution at all.

The current system requires learning the mechanics of an economic system in much the same way that one must learn other game mechanics to be good. For example, last night during a "kiosk run" I found a listing for Nirnroot that was 75% less than MM price on PC-NA. Bought it, flipped it and pocketed 26k for 10 minutes of work (if you can call it work. lol) I made more than 650k last week alone and I barely made my guild's top 100 sellers.

Now, I may totally suck at PvP,, Dungeons, and I'll never earn a vMA weapon, etc. I'll never be on any leader board that's for sure but I know how to make money (still learning more every day though).

This trading system takes time to L2P. It is one aspect of this game, however, not ruined by RNG. I like the complexity of it. it's a big reason why I play ESO.

What we need is more guild traders in easy to get to locations AND an easy way to search through them. Eg searching by keyword! This would make trading so much easier. The recent filter change was good but typing and searching for what you want is ... necessary..!

It's always interesting to see people want to destroy an aspect of the game that is very much loved by Traders.

Unlike in many other MMOs in ESO you can actually play as a full on Trader, just like PvPers can focus on killing players in Cyrodiil and Raiders can focus on Trials.

You can specialize as a Trader in ESO along with Trade Guilds, which COULD NOT exist without the current system.

A centralized auction house = no Trade Guilds and basically making the role of a Trader worthless.

A centralized auction house = a race to the bottom and a HAVEN for botters.

Yeah, everyone always forgets the botters. Trade guilds (at least the good ones) kick out any botters that try to slip in and keep the economy healthy.

In a centralized auction house, basically every farmable mat that can be done by a bot WILL BE SOLD in the auction house for DIRT CHEAP and destroy the value of those items and the ability for players to make gold off of them.

A centralized auction house = a single point of failure aka a rich enough group of players can totally dominate certain items that are rare enough that they can buy up the ENTIRE supply and price gouge. This is VERY HARD to do in the decentralized guild trader system. It takes more than a hour to visit every trader yourself and so would require a team of players sitting in every trade hub constantly checking for new listings and buying them up. It's just not practical while with a centralized auction house its very easy to check the bank 4 or more times an hour especially if you have a friend or two helping when you are offline.

ESO's guild trader system is basically a free market that is a player driven economy that makes it HARDER for bots OR rich traders to take over the entire market.

There is indeed room for improvement. I would like to see ZOS improve the vanilla guild store search interface using the Awesome Guild Store as inspiration. It is so much easier finding what you want with that addon installed.

I also could support a global search for rare items. Pay a Fee and the merchant/npc will tell you that Zone X, Y, & Z have the item. No information on price but saving you a lot of time by knowing there are only 3 Trading Hubs that are currently selling that item. Can't make it too easy for you ;)

Part of why I support this is because there's already a website/addon that provides a universal search across the guild stores, however that info is updated by players so the item could be sold before you even get there and it only gets updated when someone with the addon searches the guild store. Nobody with the addon has searched X Guild Store in 13 hours? Well then that info is 13 hours out of date.

I know personally it sucks when you have to search 70+ guild stores for the item you need BUT that's the life of a Trader.

Just as I would oppose dumbing down PvP and ruining the game for PvPers (likewise for Trial Raiders), I oppose destroying Trade Guilds and the Trader play style. Many players log in to ESO just to play the market and enjoy taking bets/gambles and flipping items bought from X to sell in Y store or to Z player. Their is a great deal of satisfaction when you make your first million then 10 million and so on...

77? There's 171 Guild Traders by my count, more than double the 77 you listed. Also would love to see where you got the 90%+ who can't. Getting into a Trade Guild is SO VERY EASY, just ask and they'll send you an invite. Only the top trading guilds have a waitlist. You seem to have this weird idea that every Trade Guild is maxed out for members. They are not. Lots have members that haven't logged in for weeks or stopped selling ages ago. Most will take new members quick! You ask to join, they kick an inactive member, and then they send you an invite. The ones that clean house regularly will just send you an invite right away.

What you meant (probably) is that most players don't want to trade because they play the game to quest, pvp, or raid. They aren't interested in trading, which is perfectly fine. I'm not terribly interested in PvP but I don't start saying how Cyrodiil needs to change to make it more interesting for me. It's just not my thing.

"there has NEVER been enough Trade Slots." Would really like to hear your reasoning on that. There's plenty of spots. Every week there will be Trader Stalls that are OPEN because nobody bid on them, then players run up to snatch them. A lot of stalls will go for less than 100k.

"The ONLY reason they can't Trade is because ZeniMax choose not to let them."

What? You don't need a Trade guild to trade... You can trade between players and list sales in zone chat. Also every guilds with 50+ players has their own guild store to trade internally with.

Trade Stalls are only necessary for making sales through your guild listings to outside players. And I said before, its very easy to join a Trade Guild. You even have 5 Guild Slots so you can 1 Trade Guild, 1 PvP Guild, 1 PvE Guild, 1 Social Guild, and 1 Role-playing guild if you want OR you can just have 5 Trading Guilds :) Up to you.

I said it in my comment... MATS will be sold for dirt cheap as botters will have a field day with a centralized auction house.

ITEMS that are RARE enough will be price gouged aka the stuff not farmed by bots and IN DEMAND such as New and Rare Motifs. It would be very easy to BUY UP the entire supply of a new motif set in a centralized auction house OR they could focus on something like the Mystic Ambrosia (+150% EXP). Basically any item that is rare enough that after buying up the entire supply, it wouldn't suddenly be replaced by a flood of new listings. Stuff not easily replaced very quickly.

Also its not paranoia... this is what happens in other MMOs, I know because I've played them.

The market adapts but for traders it suddenly becomes not so much fun anymore as you are dealing with botters who run 24/7 and who you will never ever be able to overcome and the Rich Trader Sharks who can spend 100 million to monopolise whatever item they want. In a decentralized system there's no point to drop that kind of money because the Guild Trader right next to your Trader that you are NOT in (since you can only be in 5) is out of your control. You can buy up the supply but you can't make the profit to justify it. Other traders in those guilds will enjoy your efforts but you won't be able to make up the gold investment without being able to sell in every guild you are buying up the supply in.
