So here's what I've done with the Ebonheart Chateau, presented as a collection of random stuff and movie allusions. Hopefully you'll like it, and if you're on PC EU, feel free to swing by !

Thanks :D Took me at least 9-10 hours, the planing on PTS notwithstanding, and over 6 million gold, but I feel it was worth it :)

Really nice video, it's great to see what idea's people are coming up with to decorate their homes

    Sweet.

Now you can add a couple planks for people to walk up to the second level... make it multi-level maze.

That's my plan, to begin after it hits console. A labyrinth reaching to the sky.

That was my intention, much like the Star Trek chess board. Alas I reached the item cap limit. I have 666 hedges atm, and 34 statues and other miscellaneous crap, so sadly it'll have to wait until ZOS decides to be reasonable and level the cap. I mean come on, one book takes the same amount of space as a giant Molag Bal statue...

It's not a volume of space taken up thing, it's a amount of disk space per house thing.

Remember, they are digital items so physical volume means nothing. But just like the crafting bag, the 1s and 0s of the information does take up physical disk space.

Each item has an item number of N digits long. Add on a X/Y/Z coordinate location of that item in the virtual space of a house. Plus another couple numbers R1 and R2, for if you rotated it from default. Did you customize it somehow, like attuned crafting stations etc? Gotta have disk space dedicated to hold that information.

So take all that information, add it up. Depending on how finely the coordinates and rotation is measured, try moving something 1 pixel. How many pixels large is the zone instance of the largest home, because they have to be prepared for that. How tiny are the spins? With the longest item you can find, try to find the smallest amount you can rotate it - is that a single degree or less? So there's another 4 or 5 digits for each of R1 and R2.

Plus the item details I haven't thought of. Tack on extra space for future use that you haven't thought of yet.

Now multiply that amount of info by how many items per house. Multiply by number of houses. Starts to pile up, eh? Multiply again by number of players.

Plain truth, limits have to be set.

True, but said limits don't match the amount of space we have available to us. Big mansions like the Hunding's Palatial Hall, the DC and EP manors (AD one less so since you have little space inside and the outside can be given the cluttered look with trees) feel big and empty with only 700 spaces available with ESO +.

It has to be an limit,
You need 6 numbers for item placement, lets use int32, or two bytes, lets use 64 bit for id and player id, int32 for house id, int 32 for item type 16 bytes, now add some extra for options and perhaps future coloring who take us to 20.
An mansion with eso+ give 700 objects so 14KB.

14KB*8.5 million players = 120 GB, anybody have an old hard drive to donate :)
Yes things is a bit more complex, its in an database with indexes and gaps in it but its still a few TB.

As houses is instanced they are not loaded then empty, they are loaded on an server with spare capacity just as group dungeons are created on entering however changes is saved on exit.

Now inventory and bank has to be in server memory all the time as you use it often, houses including house storage containers does not

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Actually that gold goes to restoring me to my former multimillionaire status, and subsequent glory and greatness. And exploiting? Lets not throw such dirty words around. I was merely enjoying some immersive roleplaying with friends at a strategic resource that may or may not have yielded a significant material reward (though alliance points aren't really a great example of materialism).
So sit back, relax, and enjoy that awesome maze built with sweat, toil, tears, and blood money. You're welcome to stop by!
