POLL: Combat Hirelings

Would you like to see combat hirelings who follow you around? We have non-combat hirelings (Bank, Merchant, Fence). There would need to be certain areas these hirelings could not be used for purposes of balance/fairness (i.e., PvP and Trails come to mind).

So yes but then I want to be able to gear them myself and customize them aswell.

I am not opposed to companions, but I am opposed to combat companions.

You see, the biggest problem I see is that they end up being mandatory. Yes, mandatory. You can say "oh you don't have to use them if you don't want to", but the truth is that if they add a little more DPS then everybody will need to have one to be competitive. And if they have different stats, then everybody will have to run the same "optimal" ones. It's like using food.

But add dungeons to the forbidden areas and then maybe. You know, just so people won't have another reason to kick from dungeons. Example with names from Skyrim (one is from a mod): "Wow, you are using Rumarin instead of J'zargo? Lame"

Honestly I'd rather see NPC companions of some kind. Perhaps a squire to hold stuff. I'm thinking mainly a cosmetic companion, but if their dialog was updated on a regular basis it would add some flavor to the game.

In PvP/any type of group PvE ( when you are actually in group) I say no.

In single player PvE ( restricted to zones that are instanced) I would say there might be some point of implementing them.
So some ppl that absolutely detest grouping might try doing group dungeons with a single, generic hireling. Like healer or sorc or melee tank hireling. These could be provided in undaunted enclaves after a quest or something. Each enclave could have one type of these. Like, Saxleel healer in Mournhold, Orsimer tank in dc area, and Alther sorc in AD area. Also, these should die when you die, and res when u do, to prevent exploits in boss fights.

I would absolutely love this. A companion with a flashed-out personality and good dialogue would be more than enough for me.

Followers worked (kind of) in Skyrim, but I really can't see the same benefit here. As @Abeille says, they could be seen as default or necessary. Cue calls to make them more powerful, less powerful, etc. etc.

The poll and this one are nice discussions be Zos will never add combat companions.

They aren't needed. It's merely something else for people to complain about and it's more work Zos for which they have zero incentive to do.

I believe hirelings have already been implemented at the point that this game became a MMO (which is since forever), and they're called Friends.

Look for a guild, meet up with new people or see if you can persuade (or intimidate

) some friends you know from elsewhere to play ESO, and then play together.

Pros:

Will deal more damage than any hireling probably would.
More interesting gameplay to behold, rather than a hireling who's just using light/heavy attacks.
More social fun: celebrate over a few player kills, or have fun with Guards. Especially over Skype/TeamSpeak.
You can have more than 1.
You don't have to pay for them. And if you do, you're being scammed.
You can learn alot from eachother and become a better ESO player.

Cons:

They could be offline. Though that makes it a great opportunity to check up on your solo skills.

Long story short: Play with friends. It's way better than a hireling.

Why the heck do you need them most of the content is solo? and most of the group content is done with just people zerging DPS?

How's finding a decent pricing line for a reason?
How much do you think players should pay for it? And Crowns are not a valid currency to respond IMO, or it would be Pay2Win. A bank hireling is only a timesaver, a combat hireling can step up your gameplay alot. I mean, if these are intended to help out in group dungeons, imagine players using them to grind for faster levelling and farming raw mats for medium armor.

I understand wanting to solo everything. People might like this game on its own, but not the MMO aspect of it. A lot of solo players here.
And before you say "go play Skyrim", it is not like ESO is Skyrim: The MMO. They are different games and it is understandable that someone would like to play ESO, but solo. The game is very solo friendly in general, after all.

I would prefer if we could take whatever number of players we want anywhere and the instance would scale to it, but that's wishful thinking.

Pretty sure I voted on one of these before. YES though PVP could be slightly awkward, but then again if they were able to be brought into PVP they would need to be scaled down like the sorc pets are, (not that low though god they need looking at)

Just another DoT/HoT with a slightly different visual and often a bad AI. With the way the UI is set up have any detailed controlled over one would either be not possible or end up taking up precious slots.

There is no need for combat hirelings. I was in Craglorn of all places last night, and there no time at any world boss site or in any dungeon, was I ever alone. In the delves there were always 3 to 4 other people, and we cleared the place together. At the world boss site there were even more people. Mind you this is in Craglorn, the most under used place in all of Tamrial, every where else there are a dozen or more people running dungeons, world bosses, dolmens, etc. All combat hirelings would do is add more lag to places already lagged by pets, non-combat hirelings, etc.

There are combat hirelings in the game, no need to add another machanic that includes them. Just type the following into zone / trade guild chat:
"wtb mercenary to fight xx, paying xxx gold per hour / per completion"
If the amount of gold you're offering is high enough, I'm sure you'll find an excellent companion.

Dangerously close to That IS crossing the border of P2W territory. Even if they were free, no. It'd just be another meta to have in the game, and we don't need more of those.

Even so, they did have mercenaries in Cyrodil but those didn't last long.

I'm for them so long as I can completely customize them (appearance, race, armor) and they work like regular pets. But they should be treated as pets, and work as part of a build that uses them. I'd also love to see pets be customizable, too. Instead of summoning an imp, let me summon a clannfear - let me choose what is summon and not have it be morph-specific.
