.... and this is the monster that ZoS has created. I am sitting back and laughing at this point.

It is laughable... if it were not so pathetic. I have been around since beta and I am not flipping out about not getting a dog pet right now but that is just me. If ppl want to *** about this they will. ZoS knows what they need to do... to quote them from Quakecon: "it's just a matter of when" - aphilosophy they seem to apply to a lot of stuff in the game, lol....

Do I really need to repaste my post again or could you kindly not be so lazy and just go back to it on your own this time?

Posting other people's opinions does not make those opinions anything more than reposted opinions.

This is getting repetitious. Me not agreeing with you on your points does not make me lazy. Everyone championing this argument is apparently incapable of civilized or logical discourse, which I think is par for the course considering the level of false-entitlement needed to believe that you deserve everything that will ever become available for the game (possibly on a silver platter?)

Knew it, lol. Rather than going back to the post where I stated the unbiased facts, you want to try and say that everyone who disagrees with you is "incapable of civilized or logical discourse". Good job making yourself look more mature than me. I'm offering up facts for my arguement and you're calling me and everyone else who stands on the same side of the line as me incompetent. Should I link in the definition of "incompetent" or could you look that up yourself?

Entitled? lol. Since when is it a bad thing for me to expect a company who clearly states I will have access to all game content to offer me access to all game content? Vanity content is still content, even if you tack on the word "vanity".

you have yet to present any unbiased facts that support you, but I suppose me disagreeing with you on that means I am lazy.

The dog isn't content, at best you are playing semantics.

You are just proving my point.

    Spoiler
    1) We've been told we will eventually be able to get a dog with no timeline or idea on means. Simply meaning, we're expected to be sated by a response that may as well have stated that "a year from now, there will be a brown dog listed on the store."

    2) People don't want an accessory dog that will follow them, they want a dog for their character to have as a companion for rp and immersion factors. While some people do, most dog owners don't go to a pound and adopt a dog just for the sake of having a dog, they look for a dog that they or their families will connect with on a personal level.

    3) The announcement of the brown and retriever hounds came after this thread was app 17 pages, and without giving any time frame or "how to" suggests that Zenimax didn't even plan on releasing a dog to the veteran players until after they realized how pissed they were about it.

Alright here, I'll make it easy for you so you can stop proving my point and actually make one of your own for a change. All I'll make you do this time is click "spoiler". Think you can handle that? ;)

Since you're too lazy to read the definition of content off the link I posted, I'll post it here too, but I won't make you click "spoiler" twice since that might be too much work.

The contents of a game are still contents, whether it's vanity content or not. Exclusive vanity content is still content, it is just exclusive content. Exclusive content doesn't *** me off in most games, but in a game where I was told there would be no exclusive content, that's not the same.

By your estimations doing a good job is not enough. You have to pander to every unhappy player or else get cut.

Think if that really happened. The staff would be constantly rotating to make you feel better. You're probably already wealthy, no one besides the already entitled and pampered would expect such things. The rest of us, in the real world, have realistic expectations because we do not live in a reality where everyone bends to our whims, however ridiculous they may be.

You cant please everyone, but you need to know where you should not go.

There are threads about the pig , there are threads about steam support ...

Yet the threads about the dog beat those easilly in amount of complains.

    Why?

Because this was considered such absurd by many. The pig , you could have gotten by going to the quakecon , the monkey you can still get (checked my email , hell , i think i still have a few valid beta invites there myself) , you can buy that guar and get the pet also , the dog...

You cant , end of story , it is for new players only , sorry , you can actually , you just need to toss your whole account out of the window and buy the game again on steam and start again :P.

The principle is *** , the problem is not the dog itself , but the idea of making content exclusive to new players only.

The funniest part about all this , is that zen probably could have gotten the same amount of sales even without giving the dog.

You are the polar opposite of the super whiney person looking for hand outs. Neither side is good and extremism is usually bad.

I suggest you calm down do some yoga. Maybe meditate.

Now. I think there should be some earned vanity pets and items in game don't you? Maybe some that drop rarely off end bosses or random events/quests in the world? I agree that some items up for sale is good (I bought two guars) but there should definitely be some obtainable vanity items in game to keep people occupied don't you?

You can find the middle ground after all, and I'm pretty sure the brown dog is going to be in the store and NOT a give away. Wouldn't it be more fun if that crab had been fished or the brown dog is a hungry npc you meet in the wild that follows you till you feed him?

Problem here is that they are monetizing all cosmetic items like a free to play game or a buy to play game while the game is supposed to be funded by the sub. So no - them giving out "free stuff" isn't going to make them broke. If they send everyone a plush you would have an argument but making several pets obtainable in game that take the average gamer weeks to months to get will keep more people active and subscribed.

You may not care about them - but for some people they will travel the world for weeks on end to find that dog and that is fun to them. I don't understand it one bit pets are silly to me, but they are important to some.

In a sub game there should be a balance of cosmetics in game and some that is purchased. If people didn't care about pixels and graphics we would still be playing atari and mud games.

Take your own advice. True, some sound like spoiled brats asking for a free handout, but others aren't asking for free handouts, they're simply outraged by the way Zenimax handled this whole event, and justifiably if you look at the whole scenario without focusing on the dog factor. Lets take a look at it and we'll even avoid the phrase "dog".

    1) Zenimax justifies the use of a p2p system by stating that "players will have access to all content". Vanity content is still content, stating that there will be no exclusive content and then adding exclusive content makes you a liar.

    2) Veteran players have been asking for a specific item since beta, and Zenimax finally delivers on that item. The problem is, Zenimax only gives said item to new players and tells veteran players they will never be allowed to have the item.

    3) Many veteran players simply want Steam access, they don't care about the other bonus item. However, the way Steam support for this game has been handled, new players are allowed to get the benefits of having the game on Steam while veteran players have been told they never will.

    4) Zenimax chose to announce the release of similar items, but waited so long to announce this and when they did decided that vagueness was the best way to handle the situation. From their response about the similar item, for all we know, it will be a part of the next Steam promotion and all players considered veteran will not have access to it either.

    5) Zenimax's market department has demonstrated very bad judgement by doing what so many consider to be giving the finger to the player base who has stood by them through thick and thin. They have made the statement that, in regards to ESO, it would have been better to wait the three months and buy the game so you could get the Steam support and free vanity items. Naturally, in the process of doing so, they have shunned the very players who have defended them while many big name media companies bad mouthed them.

    6) Many would argue that beta testers had access to two exclusive pets, but new players can get these pets simply by turning to outside vendors and thus, new players have access to everything veteran players have and more while, and I hate repeating myself, veteran players will not be allowed to get the Steam support or vanity pet that new players have.

I've been one of the many people who defended Zenimax against the naysayers, but the way this whole event was handled has demonstrated that Zenimax does not care about their loyal fans. I've defended the game despite all the bugs, though I have done my share of in game complaining about them, and I've defended
Zenimax against all those out there who compare ESO to WoW or EQ. Sorry to say I will not be doing this anymore, as they've clearly demonstrated that they care far more about bringing in potential customers then they do about keeping their supportive ones. Granted, I will still be playing, so Zenimax will still be happy since they will still be getting my sub fee, but I'll be tipping my glass to them for every potential customer I cost them by not defending them when I hear people bashing them in forums and such.

Yep that's exactly it. It was a dumb move to make it exclusive to new players only. Anyone could have told them that so why they decided to do it is beyond me.

"Exclusive to new players only" should never be a thing. Exclusive to old players only is often a thing, like items for beta testers or items that were later removed from the game (Everquest's manastone or thex dagger for instance), but it's usually accepted by new players that they missed out on it. I've never heard a new player of a game complain that they can't get some vanity item that beta testers got. Never once. Once in a blue moon someone asks for a removed item to be brought back.

But exclusive to new players only? Who thought that was a good idea? And this goes beyond a simple vanity item. Some people want Steam features. They can't get them, they're exclusively for new players only.

    WTF.

Someone needs to knock some sense into marketing or whoever is responsible for this decision.

Thx @Lyrro‌, this is a very good recapitulation (from my point of view...)

I understand all pros and contras stated in this thread, but simply the fact that there are 925 comments right at this moment should show everybody that it's important to talk and think about what happened here.

Personally I don't care about the wolfhound because I'm not using pets in this game, but I do care about the way it is handled right now. Maybe it's because I played a f2p game once and became very sensitive about it... -> when I play a subcription based game I want to have a chance to get all the stuff the games offers. It's ok if it's hard to get, but there should be the possibilty...

    @Lyrro got it.

Personally , i dont mind the whole steam stupport thing , because while i do like steam (i have over 180 games there) , i did not buy on steam. So yeah , i can understand that this is beyond zens.

Now , the "item" , that is part of the content of this game , having on to new players was trully a stupid idea.

@Lyrro, I feel exactly the same, well said.

I think the wolfhound is a cool pet and would have really appreciated it. The pets I got with pre-order were not cool, in fact not even worth the bank space so they got deleted :/

Come on, Zenimax, surely it doesn't hurt to provide your loyal fan base with a little love? Share the wolfhound :)

And if you really loved us, make it a reward for a tough quest.
