Duels? Yes or no?

This is getting old. If you keep yup on current events online, its already been said that when the justice system comes out, there will be duel like options to allow people to say stop a murderer in town etc etc to have small pvp situations.

I think yes, we should have a duel feature, but with an auto decline setting as well.

Yes, for those who want to duel.
But it must be optional, or it becomes harassment, Swtor had an autodecline feature, which was perfect for duels. If they had a similar opt out then it would be perfect, for a given value of perfect.

Even with an autodecline feature it's harassment, IMNSHO.

    Example:

Player A hates PvP in any form and has the autodecline active while bebopping around the world, enjoying themselves.
Player B loves PvP and ganking him some noobs. Sees player A and immediately runs over and challenges...only to be hit with the autodecline message!!

Player B immediately starts taunting player A with stuff like "Scrub, y u no turn on dueling?" or "Duel meh!" or something more foul and vile..which is more likely due to the mentality PvP minded people tend to have.
Player B then starts to follow Player A hurling insults and taunts until Player A is forced to report Player B for harassment.

Whereas, without a duel function...this scenario would never occur, because all PvP is in Cyrodiil. If you're not in the zone, you don't get to PvP. I find this the far better solution/option.

    Edit:

In case it was unclear, this is a firm and loud NO.

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Personally... no. I'd rather they focus on other things.

But I wouldn't hate zenimax for implementing it - since some people clearly want it.

Hey, I just got struck with a brilliant idea...literally (stupid kids throwing baseballs at my face)...

If you add an auto decline feature, and someone gets an auto decline and starts saying "duel meh" over and over, he's basically disrespecting other peoples wishes, and all you have to do is hit /ignore.

Although I don't suggest reporting them, unless ignore doesn't do the trick and unless it's absolutely necessary.

I see dueling as a mockery of PVP. In PVP you don't always get to choose your fights, you don't always have time to be prepared, you don't always have assurances of a fair fight. Dueling provides those who are scared to be beaten on terms not their own a way to seek self validation on a video game, more often than not. Training is irrelevant. PVP has and always will be on the job training.

I think you either go full on open world PVP, with opportunity to kill anyone, or you just accept the fact that you're playing a PVE game. ESO tries to mix the two, with open world PVP-lite in Cyrodiil, and the result is a mess. I see no need to compound the problem.

That said I'm moving on to a real PVP game anyways. If ESO decides to add the option it wont matter to me. But the reasoning provided is bogus. Certain players just must have a way to stroke their own egos by challenging and beating up easy people, while having no threat from the super tough to kill elite. Sounds real fun, and necessary.

You sure do paint a bleak picture.

What about friends who just want to test each others skills when they have a few moments to kill?

Let's say you are 100% correct and it is just for people too scared to go into Cyrodill and face real combat.

So what? How does it hurt your game to let players duel each other, outside city areas?

If anyone could explain a real downside to this, maybe we could understand the opposition.

Right now there is no logical reason to not have dueling, other than selfish people who don't want others to have a feature that would make a lot of players happy and not effect your game at all.

Some of my better memories from WoW are stepping outside of Orgrimar and seeing all of the tools dueling each other. We even had wimpy Alliance players come over and partake in it from time to time.

I am not a big dueling fan but it is a staple of MMOs and definitely should be in the game. Like Housing, Like Auction Houses, Like.... :)

i would like to also mention that i have never played an mmo where the duel was even anything similar to what pvp is really like. typical duels allways are nothing like pvp and actually lessen and weaken your abilites in pvp due to them not being similar in skills and such.

That is like saying you saw a dumb movie and came out less intelligent because of it.

However, even if you are 100% correct, I'll chance it. ;)

FYI, dueling is a practice of a real fight. It is practice. How it could hurt your skills is beyond me.

I guess you are saying because it is not group battle it is not real practice, but truth is, large battles take very little skill. One on one takes more skill than just blasting spells in large groups.

Yes, because some players want them. I don't duel because I feel like I only out perform myself when chaotic conditions and an extreme will to not die happens..

Not having them doesn't have any benefit whatsoever for any player who doesn't duel. It only benefits the game developer because it's harder to unveil pvp bugs and imbalances when players can't stage circumstances for testing.

    In what way?

Do soldiers not practice before battle?

    Do friends not pretend fight?

    Do bar fights not happen?

Never heard of duels in RL?

Didn't read through the comments lol, but yea they are most certainly putting it in the game. When? on the same patch the justice system comes in, or shortly after. I'm assuming that patch will be update 5, I think 4 is 2nd half of craglorn/dragonstar arena etc..

*I also heard something about dueling may possibly be restricted to housing zones (guild halls, player houses), so might even have to wait until that is released.*

they are not the same as the real fight, those are intended to just open your understanding of where the skills come into play. you can practise all you like and pretend all you like but when it's the real thing and it's upon you youll freeze and your brain will change gears and realize it's happening in real life now and i need to do something fast or im going to die or loose this fight.
its not the same thing trust me i know from experiance that practise really isnt the same thing as the real life experiance and the real life experiance is the only true learning youll need.
once you begin to feel the reality of getting hit in the face and some one attacking you in anger and seriousness then it's the real training and learning.
just practicing and toying with it is no comparison at all.

All you are saying is that dueling does not help you get better in PvP in Cyrodiil.

Well, first that is just your experience, not everyone's. It should be up to each person and how they want to play.

Also, not everyone likes Cyrodill. Some just like to duel.

What is the downside to that?
