Honestly I dont think they should waste their time with fixing it since this guy has provided a fix already.

Normally, I would agree that devs don't need to waste time on a problem that players can fix for themselves, but in this case ZOS needs to break the mod. There are people using it to make themselves look like Gamemasters and are running phishing scams in game to get people's account information.

ZOS needs to take action to prevent this for the sake of their customers security and privacy.

Just this weekend I saw this mod again being used to dupe system messages and attempt to scam players.

On top of all that the strobe light of colors really frustrated me...

Even if they have the add-on removed (which will be nearly impossible to do), people can just do it without the add-on as well. People were changing chat colors long before the add-on was in place.

After reading this thread I am left with the impression that those people who who are defending this mod and type of action, are part of the group of players doing these things.
And they dont want it changed/removed/blocked, because then they would no longer be able to do these things.

To the people defending this mod and these kinds of actions.
Forcing people to endure something they do not like or approve of and forcing them to use 3rd party programs to block it, is actually something that can be considered harassment, regardless of peoples intentions, and if it were up to me it would reported it as such.

The text color thing doesn't really bother me. Sure, it catches my eye now and again but most of the time the chat box doesn't even appear on my screen until I specifically go and click on it to type something. I have zone turned off 90% of the time. If I need to buy/sell something, I go to my guild(s).

@Bansheedragon - Your emotions are understandable, but by accusing people of doing something on purpose just because they are stating their personal opinions, aren't you the one that is harassing them? This is a forum, and conflicting opinions happen. Just because someone disagrees with you, that doesn't make them automatically evil. What your post will do is take away from the integrity of this thread, possibly inciting an argument that will eventually lead to its closure. If you are passionate about this issue, don't undermine it with such negativity.

Personally, I feel that if it bothers you this much then you can go install the add-on to fix it. Not trying to undermine your point OP, but I feel that the company has a lot more important issues that they need to focus on right now, including bugs that prevent progression.

Only basic fontsize and colors should be available to all,everbody equal posting privileges.
all kinds of unusual colors really look like garbage in the game.
It is very important that everythings is in line with the style of ESO
So chat too.

Perhaps if you want colors you can only change them personally
but if you send them out to public they will always be in standard format and belonging colors to /yell /say /group..

what would happen if we all started using the mod to type in rainbow all the time? maybe we should do that to get the point across? i finally have a working addon that strips colour, so it wont affect me... but i bet people who want to keep this functionality wont, and i expect theyll find constant rainbow text annoying.

They can't "ban" an addon. They can, however, change the system so the addon won't work anymore. Besides, you don't NEED an addon to do this. You can type the codes out by hand. The addon just simplifies it. The root cause of the issue isn't the addon, it's the fact that you can type codes into the chat window that will change your text color.

If anything that addon should only let other people with the addon see colors. I have my guild chats all in the same channel and and all kinds of colors. I don't need to see zone chat that looks like my guild officer chat.

The addon doesn't actually *do* anything. It simplifies the process of typing the codes in chat that change your text color. The problem is not the addon. The problem is, the chat system allows you to type in codes that change your text color. Removing the addon won't do anything - you can still enter the codes manually, it's just (a bit) more time consuming. They need to fix the chat system so that it no longer accepts those codes.

Some people are "lazy" and will not go through all that "trouble" so we would still see less of the color text in chat because of it. Other games have this ability and I did not note it being used very often .

I agree that this needs to be fixed. But it needs to be fixed at the source, not by just "banning" an addon. Even without the addon, you can easily type a code to change your text color to whatever you want. They need to alter the chat system so that it no longer accepts these codes.

In the meantime, there are other addons you can use that will strip the color codes from messages. I use x4d chat (along with x4d libantispam), and it removes the colors from chat.

Well for one several times I have seen someone make their text all yellow and drop it to a new line and say

[System] Your account has been suspended. Please contact support for further information.

which caused an entire zone to flip out.

I have also seen them impersonate down time etc.

If you really want to stir the pot start reporting people who are using it for exploitation. They are circumventing the settings you choose in the options menu, that can not be intended. It may actually get someone's attention if enough reports come in. (Probably not though since they pretty much auto reply and instantly close any ticket submitted).

The game needs to be changed to remove the ability to specify chat color text when sending a chat message.

The "sending" player should not be able to specify the chat message color.

The "receiving" player should have complete control over chat message color through the existing Settings menu for this.

If you want to pay the $15/month sub fee for me, go ahead and keep changing the colours in my chat all you want. Till you pay my sub fee though, don't overwrite the settings I made. I made /zone gold, /g1 red, /g2green, /g3 orange, /g4 turquoise, /g5 green....for a reason. Till you pay my sub fee, f*** off please.

What is the world is going on here? All these complaints that fall into the catagory of the first 4 I listed are fixed with one addon. End of story no more complaints etc.

And for the posters that are saying "We shouldn't have to install mods to block other mods", Uh yea, in a perfect world it would just be a setting you can turn on or off. (which is exactly like what addon does now that I think about it)

But in a perfect world there wouldn't be any gold spam either, as some of you mentioned a problem with gold seller spam. Which is why in this non perfect world there are several anti gold spammer filter/auto-ignore addons. I personally use 2, what one doesn't catch, the other does.

Same with the color text change addon. I personally don't mind it since it is interesting and fun to see the occasional flashy text pop up. But if I wanted to block it, I would just download the anti color change addon and be done with it.

It is a set it and forget it type of situation. I personally feel that if you don't download the addon you are just giving yourself an excuse to complain for the sake of complaining.

Also I think that this is the wrong forum for getting a developers attention, and I very much doubt that the color change addon is anywhere close to violating the TOS for those who mentioned it.

Like I said before, you want to pay my sub fee to influence my game, go for it. Till then, you have no right to change a single thing about my experience. I should not have to go out of my way to install something to block something that you have optionally installed to influence my experience.

First of all where did I accuse anyone of anything?
I said I am left with the impression that this is so, but never said it actually was so, and no I did not imply anything either.
While its probably not your intention, by responding with comments that are based on misunderstandings and misconceptions you risk escalating this to the very issue you are worried about.
So please take the time to actually understand what I'm saying before you respond.

Since the ability to change the chat colors outside the options are being abused to this extent, the best solution would be for ZOS to simply disable the ability to change the chat text colors outside of the options.
Not to mention that allot of people may not even be aware of the existence of this mod at all, much less willing to install it.

Last but not least, I am not trying to be hostile either towards you or anyone else, and I am not trying to accuse anyone of anything.
If people cant take the time to understand what someone is saying, then its better they not respond at all.

Noone else is affected by someone's addon choices. The addon doesn't *do* anything. It simplifies typing in the codes to change your text color. You can very easily do this without an addon, the codes go something like |cfffff. All the addon does, is enter those codes for you so you don't have to remember them yourself.

I don't disagree that it is an issue, but it's not the addon that's the issue. It's the chat system that lets you change your text color by typing things like |c87897 in chat. Try it yourself, it works fine, no addon required.

I put a lot of work into the base UI's text color options... other people should not be able to mess with my 3 minutes of hard work!
