It's more "other people want to change my experience to make it less immersive, please don't let them".

The colours are used for two things so far, advertising/attention seeking and trying to scam/confuse others. Neither add to my game experience (though I admit I don't care a lot personally). No one has a chat colour changing mod to enhance their own experience.

WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO INSTALL AN ADDON TO BLOCK ANOTHER ADDON FROM MESSING WITH OUR SETTINGS PERIOD...

I fully understand your position but just want to point out that you can colorize text without using any addon if you know how it works.

So I really suggest getting that text color blocking addon if you truly never want to see colored text by any player in any public channel.

Yeah, but you can remove this which is also a point I made.

So... do it or shut up about it. If you want something removed, for which there is a player made fix for, then use that fix. Others might want to continue using it, despite your obviously biased view on "oh well its not adding anything to their experience" opinion.

Your fix is to remove it entirely... which is BS.

It should be banned and here is why,

It affects the text on MY client. It is not made by the publisher I pay a sub to.

Therefore it is third party interference with MY game experience.

There should be NO cosmetic mods that affect another players client. That is simple enough.

I've seen people using it trying to scam other players by posting fake item links in chat.

The biggest problem I see with it are the gold spammers that have decided to become rainbow warriors. The X4d spam blocker is pretty decent, but it doesn't catch it all, unfortunately.

Soooo how are they scamming others by posting fake items? It's not like you can use it to create a fake item in the trade window or in a CoD e-mail.

Many people really grasping for imaginary reasons in this thread. There's nothing exploitable about it, the most they can do is annoy someone with bright colors and post fake items that you cannot click on that they cannot trade in any way.

It affects the text on YOUR client because YOUR client has the ability to do it. The add-on isn't a 'third party' application that adds color to your screen, it just inserts a chat command that changes the color. It can be done with or without the add-on.

To ban the mod would require API changes and this possibly affects other mods as well which is not a desired effect
There's no good reason for an API that allows text colour changing like this in the first place, if it breaks a mod somewhere by removing this feature that's being so heavily abused then fine, mods are optional and not required to play the game.

A mod WE didn't install should never effect OUR chat in a way WE don't want. I don't care if only people with the mod can see color text but when a mod someone else installs effects me...YES it should be dealt with and this should be blocked without forcing me to download another addon.

Furthermore the implications of this mod scamming people, distracting other players and faking system messages, alone are enough that this should be banned.

And to the genius saying "oh its called /ignore" I would have to ignore the person AFTER they already used the mod to annoy myself and others in zone....and no I am not turning zone chat off because a few tools are using a mod that changes my default settings.

Te recap...No it is not fair or logical to force us to download and install an addon just to combat another addon changing our settings.

It's not a mod. Anythign the add-on does can be done without the add-on. I can type in colors while using the clean vanilla version of ESO, you arrogant skeever.

The addon and functionality to do so in "vanilla" should be removed.

Again...nothing another player can do should effect my default chat settings....period..

So because a guild is recruiting we should allow them to change the default colors of everyone's chat just so their giant paragraph stands out more than the others?

Forgetting all the other stuff the mod affects like fake items, fake system messages and annoying the crap out of everyone?

    That is absurd...

If it was in vanilla, it was intended. It's not affecting anyone's default chat settings, you're just assuming your default chat settings are limited to just white.

The whole "you don't agree with me so you must be a troll" argument...so weak and a clear sign you have no valid points left...

Whether it is in vanilla or not, this feature needs to be removed. I have never seen in any MMO or any game where another user can go around the default settings I set for my client to force my attention.

This is an oversight that needs to be fixed ASAP and thankfully someone already posted that ZOS was looking into it.

I will say it yet again because people are obviously not reading the thread before posting.

Not only does this annoy the user and force their attention (Noted by an earlier post of someone saying it makes guild recruitment stand out) but it is also being used by gold spammers to annoy further, scammers to sell people fake items (yes there are people inexperienced enough to fall for it, and to generate fake system messages (Someone did this yesterday in zone chat stating "[System] Your account has been suspended. Please contact support for further information")

While most of us experienced players would know that is not a real system message, it didn't stop the entire zone from FLIPPING OUT for a good 20 minutes and not even listening to reason from people who knew it was fake.

Either way it disrupted an entire zone's chat...

This functionality needs to and probably will be taken out...

Here's your problem, you're ASSUMING people are going around the defaults. All your arguments seem to sum up so far is "I don't like it so it should be removed!" I enjoy having these options. If you don't I'm sorry, but that is one of the reasons they have an ignore function in this game.

So are the amount of complaints about this function is a sliver of the community, so the company isn't going to change something just because you don't like it.

Honestly I dont think they should waste their time with fixing it since this guy has provided a fix already.

Normally, I would agree that devs don't need to waste time on a problem that players can fix for themselves, but in this case ZOS needs to break the mod. There are people using it to make themselves look like Gamemasters and are running phishing scams in game to get people's account information.

ZOS needs to take action to prevent this for the sake of their customers security and privacy.
