Won't go f2p will it?

Every MMO ever is eventually going to go F2P or close it's servers (Even WoW, Eve, and Ultima Online will eventually shut down). Question is how long.. and quite frankly, I don't understand why there's so much concern over it. Play a game while you find it fun, if you don't find it fun, move on.

Personally, I find this game fun. Any of the arguments I've seen against it, and all the rage at bugs.. are all things I've seen in literally every other MMO release. They don't scare me, they don't spoil my fun, and they sound like they come from a bunch of entitled people who don't know a thing about how programming/debugging actually works.

There's also a lot of folks that don't seem to understand people may have a different opinion.. not everyone is gonna like the same stuff you do, and not everyone is gonna find something fun just cause you do. Just because you think something needs to be added, doesn't mean others do, and absolutely doesn't mean the game will fail without said thing. If that thing is enough that you personally don't find the game fun to play, move on.. it's okay, not every game is meant for every person, and hey, maybe ESO will add the feature in the future if enough people show interest and you can come back then, when it is fun according to you. That just doesn't seem enough for most people though, it seems like they've taken on this attitude of "I don't enjoy the game, so you shouldn't either."

It's going to go f2p because of lack of chat bubbles? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Some people get way to obsessed with their favorite issue of the moment and lose all perspective.

Where do people pick these fictitious numbers from? This happens to a lot of new MMO's people assume the game is a sinking ship, though it hasn't even been out long enough to determine that, and claim people are quitting in dangerous amounts. You and your buddy's do not make up the player base of TESO.

I believe this game should avoid going F2P at all costs. If they went F2P they would have to supplement the income by adding, you guessed it, a legitimate store where you could buy (More than cosmetic) items from it. A game like this and a game with the potential ESO has should maintain a subscription so they can keep the standard we all expect from a E.S. game.

I rather pay $25 a month then ESO going F2P. With that model a new set of problems accompanies it, none of them I think are welcomed by type of player ESO will maintain over the long run.

Lets get one thing straight, it is not us Millennials who are the ME generation (20s-early 30s), it's you GenXers(mid 30s-early 50s). Do you listen to yourselves?

The people who are "leaving" (I haven't noticed any of this btw) are the powergamers/powerlevelers who have no real life outside of gaming and just played for days on end to level and didn't take a look at the content at all.

When the gaming industry picks up on this they'll understand what's going on. Also, keep in mind folks buy a game and may not like it.

You really should be blaming GenXers more as the "Me" folks when my generation only makes up 25% on average as the MMO group base.

I respect your opinion Robert. But I would say this game is structured in such a way to actually encourage players to power level to the end.

I know this because I am the exact opposite. I like to take my sweet time exploring and doing everything. And because of this, I constantly feel as if I'm struggling against the game's intended design.

For example, many of my quests today were grayed out for me. Seems I level at a rate much faster than I can complete the content itself. I can't keep up with upgrading my gear through my crafts. It just seems to me this game moves too fast.

I love this game. I log on despite the bugs and the bots and have a great time. I like that it's hard sometimes and I like that I die if I don't quite understand a gaming mechanic in time. I like that the game forces us to group up, but that I get to be anti-social when I want to.

I'm a massive TES fan and a keen MMO player. I've been frustrated by the recent MMOs because I find myself bored of them within a month or two. The communities are often lacking and the content is shallow.

If this game can sort out the glitches and botting*, I'm going to keep paying and playing. This game might be a niche product, but it has a strong following of gamers who are prepared to put money into a game they are enjoying.

Compare it to SW:TOR all you like, I played that game. I adore Bioware games just as much as TES games, but I was left cold by TOR. The content of TOR missed the mark because they couldn't decide who they wanted to appeal to. I think ESO know who they are marketing towards.

Doom and gloom all you like, I've talked to quite a few other players who have been looking for a game like this to settle into for a while.

    * I think the reason I'm so frustrated by the bugs/glitches and botting is because I love this game so much. Saying that I've played a lot of MMOs and many from release, this is not the worst launch I've seen by a long shot.

TL;DR: Some people are really loving this game. Don't think you're speaking for everyone. Bots and bugs are bad.

Just play now, if your happy, sub, and wait to see what happens in the future. If you don't like it, don't sub and go play something else.

I for one will quit the day this game goes F2P. SWTOR was ok until F2P. Now it is a complete money grab. I Refuse to chuck money at games like that. I'd rather go back to a decent single player game.

But whatever happens, just enjoy the experience for what it is now. Why worry about something that may or may not happen in the distant future, and it will be the distant future, not next year like many doom-sayers predict here.

It will happen because game was released too buggy. People will quit during their 30d game. Some people will of course stay but there are too many design mishaps in ESO that I do not see it likely to live on as paid game. Its too hard to enter so getting new players will be difficult. Also they would need to fix all the major issues asap that they would keep up the faith to players that are quitting.

Its sad thought to think that another game would become f2p because I think that paid month subscription based mmos are the only way to go. f2p will end up with too many immature kids and wrong type of monetization model.

Seriously I think that it has also been a fallback plan for this game if the launch failed. Which seems it has. If they had more time to fix the issues from launch they had way fewer people complaining and leaving.

Well I guess ignorant people are entitled to their opinions. I guess.

Problem with Craglorn was that it got just announced. Out of blue. When people are still getting stuck to endless loading screens and wondering why some quest objects don't let them trigger, quests bugging players getting stuck. To be honest announcement of craglorn made me furious not happy not happy at all.

Will it be that half of the raid or errhmm "adventurers" will dc in endless loading when they get to the raid instance *cough* sorry "adventure zone"? All I can say that happy adventuring in your loading screen.

Point 1: The game is less than 3 weeks old, head start not counting.

Point 2: I believe the majority of the angsty doomsayers will be gone within 30 days, off to emote and whine on some other forum about another game that fails to be perfect right out the gate.

Point 3: My best friend and I ( both women. Yes, there are women on the intarwebz! ) played our duo for about 10 hours today, each of us experienced exactly ONE bug, each. Not bad, all things considered.

Point 4: To me, at least, the phasing makes the world feel alive. Unlike most MMOs, what I've done in Tamriel is reflected in Tamriel. The citizens speak about my deeds. Towns I saved are rebuilding. Battles I helped end leave fields free of conflict. This is awesome!

Point 5: This is NOT Oblivion or Skyrim. It's an MMO and it's one of the better, more engaging MMOs I've played and I've played a huge chunk of 'em. I feel that ZOS has a nice hybrid here. There are trade-offs, to be sure, but the balance seems to work most of the time.

Point 6: If the game does go F2P, and I feel confident it won't any time soon if at all, I'll still play. I'm intrigued and invested. I like what I've seen so far and really want to see more.

Point 7: Opinions are like butt-holes. Everyone's got one.
Brunhilda Icehammer - Nord Dragonknight, 'Smith & Enchantress 'What is 'ranged? I need to hit something!!'
Laehl Direthorn - Bosmer Nightblade, Purveyor of fine Clothes, Bows and Staves
Reeza gra-Zuni - Orc Templar 'War Shaman' and Apothecary
Noemi Snowpaw - Kajiit Dragon Knight - I laugh... or I'd have to kill you.

This game has probably sold about 600,000 copies. If it retains the average after the free month that will put total subs at around 210,000. The game may go FTP quicker than some of realize.

It might go F2P sooner than i expected, as apparently Zenimax has done little to fix long standing beta bugs and dupes and released a half-assed game instead of testing it for a few more months.

The dupes especially have ruined any semblance of economy the game had, millions of gold was injected into the game in a matter of days.

Seriosily dupe? This is such known problem, how could they ever write an engine that allows stuff like this, it shows that there are probably tons of other ways to cheat. Actually, after all this, it is most likely that they will close the game instead of making if f2p.

Seriously, what game are you comparing this to, to say it's got very little content to stay P2P?

It is only 3 weeks old, I really don't understand your gripe with 'lack of content'.

New MMO's need time to grow. They won't just slap out a fully developed game that took 15 years to make because everyone would still complete it in a month, then where would they be?

    Bankrupt, that's where!

Maybe you should not start playing newly released MMO's immediately, maybe you need to wait 10 years before playing one, I hear WoW's pretty developed now...

Please can you show me the source of the numbers that you just stated.

Ahh that's right I know... the AIR!

Also you need to factor in the consoles, they will hit a shed load of sales on consoles. In all Skyrim sold over 20 million copies world wide. only 14% of which were on the PC (which is still almost 3m) so I would believe 600'000 is probably a little off.

It will not go F2P for a long while.

I never said i dont like this game, its not bad and the story on very start was pretty good, specially on birth isle and such. I just think it has no furute without a huge content update very soon, and they have not even announced any yet so it is probably now even planed yet. And considering that you can go max level in two weeks (i was even trying to level slow), also there was a lvl 50 guy next day or so.

And "story based", wth does that mean? just because you got voiced npc's, dosn't realy change anything. The story is not worse then in other mmos, but not realy any better as well.

Directly wrong actually. At the RiftStore you can easily purchase flasks that last for 1 hour and they increase your XP by a whole lot. You can also purchase armour items from the RiftStore, and these items are usually better than what drops in that zone or are gotten from quests. Rift is not as bad Pay 2 win as Planetside 2, but it's close to. Stating that Rift isn't P2W is directly false.

I'm a level 18 Templar and joined the Ebonheart Pact.

Like you, I like to take my time and complete everything but differ on creating alternate characters. That I don't enjoy so much, and rarely do it on games.

It just seems like levels come at me so fast I can't keep the content relevant. So I could see why some catapult to the end. The game almost seems to encourage it with the rate of experience.

Even as I am wondering around Stonefalls at level 18 in my endless quest for crafting materials so I can at least craft myself green quality armor. I have been wary of reaching another level.

It just seems to me that the rate of experience for your character is out of whack with the rest of the game's design. They give us such huge lands to explore with numerous quests and an interesting crafting system yet program our characters to grow at such a pace it's nearly impossible to do it all without rapidly outgrowing it all in the process.

They will most likely make that decision based on console sales. I think the PC release was just the tip of the iceberg, with us finishing the final open beta before the console release. They are definitely trying to clean up things before consoles. I don't mean for this to be a PC vs Console debate but let's be realistic here. Console sales and subs need to outweigh PC sales/subs or you won't just be looking at F2P, you'll be looking at a shutdown.

If this were a PC only release, I would say F2P somewhere by first quarter 2015, just so they can try and squeeze every sub dollar for the year. This does not have sub longevity. As one reviewer put, the first 20 levels are worth the box price alone, but after that I don't see how it will sustain a monthly payment model, additional content or no. I fully agree with that.

I'm anxiously awaiting the console numbers. If they are really poor, or if the console release is a buggy mess, that would be a whole new ball game. F2P would be the least of your worries, if by then you're worried at all.
