No People are just tired of being jacked around while they are paying for something that is half broken full of exploiters and Gold farmers and watching daily as *** all is being done about it..It's the nature of the ME generation..what is in it for me?! I'm happy to pay for a game that I enjoy..most seem to complain about paying for a game more than they actually play the game.
I love that some will just mindlessly bash a game without knowing anything about said game just due to the subscription model. Pathetic.
I've noticed this behavior in several threads on this forum. Frankly, it's enough to make me sick.
I mean... I just don't get it. People expect the developers to just bend to their every want and desire... because something inconveniences their idea of fun. They won't listen to reason about anything, and constantly justify their points by bullying you into submission.
I really want to give these people a piece of my mind, but the reality is... the entire Politically Correct system of etiquette we live in works FOR them. You simply can't do this on a forum without running the risk of hurting someone's feelings, thereby providing yourself with an instant ban. We can't even engage in neighborly social correction anymore. People are supposed to correct those around them... not to be jerks... but for the betterment of the individual and the community.
It just simply blows my mind, these people.
I think once the game settles in and everyone who has their tighty-whiteys tied up in a knot make good on their threats of leaving, that this game will find itself in a situation where it's perfectly sustainable in a Subscription model.
I mean, there's this lie about Subscriptions that they cannot sustain. Subscription models never were "broken" and unprofitable in the first place. Nothing about their ability to produce revenue changed. The only thing that ever changed was the perspective of investors wanting to milk a cash cow for a low cost, and the gaming community who doesn't know any better being force fed F2P garbage for the past 6-7 years.

The people who are "leaving" (I haven't noticed any of this btw) are the powergamers/powerlevelers who have no real life outside of gaming and just played for days on end to level and didn't take a look at the content at all.
When the gaming industry picks up on this they'll understand what's going on. Also, keep in mind folks buy a game and may not like it.

You really should be blaming GenXers more as the "Me" folks when my generation only makes up 25% on average as the MMO group base.

I respect your opinion Robert. But I would say this game is structured in such a way to actually encourage players to power level to the end.
I know this because I am the exact opposite. I like to take my sweet time exploring and doing everything. And because of this, I constantly feel as if I'm struggling against the game's intended design.
For example, many of my quests today were grayed out for me. Seems I level at a rate much faster than I can complete the content itself. I can't keep up with upgrading my gear through my crafts. It just seems to me this game moves too fast.
What faction are you and what class? Also what level?
My highest is level 28 (EP NB) and it might be because I'm a completionist... so I go back and make sure all my map icons get filled in. Also, I like to make alts... plus I have finals to worry about... I like to go out sometimes... I gotta clean the house... etc When I play I do level fast I've noticed though.
I'm a level 18 Templar and joined the Ebonheart Pact.
Like you, I like to take my time and complete everything but differ on creating alternate characters. That I don't enjoy so much, and rarely do it on games.
It just seems like levels come at me so fast I can't keep the content relevant. So I could see why some catapult to the end. The game almost seems to encourage it with the rate of experience.
Even as I am wondering around Stonefalls at level 18 in my endless quest for crafting materials so I can at least craft myself green quality armor. I have been wary of reaching another level.
It just seems to me that the rate of experience for your character is out of whack with the rest of the game's design. They give us such huge lands to explore with numerous quests and an interesting crafting system yet program our characters to grow at such a pace it's nearly impossible to do it all without rapidly outgrowing it all in the process.

Don't worry mate, with so many ESO fans from former games of them this game will never go f2p and will keep massives of players if they keep atleast an expansion every year
This game has probably sold about 600,000 copies. If it retains the average after the free month that will put total subs at around 210,000. The game may go FTP quicker than some of realize.
Eso is nothing remotely like the predecessor games, so I don't see how your post makes sense at all.
Please can you show me the source of the numbers that you just stated.
Ahh that's right I know... the AIR!
Also you need to factor in the consoles, they will hit a shed load of sales on consoles. In all Skyrim sold over 20 million copies world wide. only 14% of which were on the PC (which is still almost 3m) so I would believe 600'000 is probably a little off.
It will not go F2P for a long while.
Well more than 250K bought the physical version of the game after VGCharts, an majority bought the digital version, 2/3 digital gives 750, higher digital faction push sales up toward an million.theinsaneb16_ESO wrote: »If this game goes f2p because of allllll the new age f2p jobless kids i will quit so fast...any worries here that this game will go bottoms up and die a f2p death?

Actually, I pulled it out of my MATLAB model. I took readily available data, such as, ESO uploads, posts, searches, ect, at differing times in the day to calculate trends in, for example how many players play PvP as compared PvE.
There's still a large variance that should improve with time, but no more than +/-200k, I started running a refined version with more data and well see what I get.
But whatever, i don't really care if you believe me or not, it's just something I'm playing around with. Hopefully they will release real sales numbers eventually, I'd like to compare.

Trade fees is an simple setting, something they can change in an config file.If this game goes f2p because of allllll the new age f2p jobless kids i will quit so fast...any worries here that this game will go bottoms up and die a f2p death?
Yup.
The limited 'bank' will push them to P2W in a few months; that alone before any of their other abysmal failures.
The horrible market (the guild method works fine, but the extortion fee and sorting functions are abysmal) will drive people away. The limited and overly simplified - and anemic - crafting system will drive away others.
After loosing pretty much their entire early comers to bad design choices they'll either come around to what people want to play or they'll go F2P (P2W) and make fat $$$ on bank expansions like every other game out there.

Two main errors in your calculations, first is that the majority is not on forums.
Majority is still leveling up, they see PvP as more of an endgame activity so they will continue leveling well past the first month.
Yes had it only been the PC version it would be an chance the game would go F2P as I would doubt they would keep 250k long term subscribers.
However the console version will bring in more players, I guess console sales will bypass PC sales after some months as its an lack of RPG in general for next gen.
Long term it depend on content added not launch issues.
(Skyrim sold 6 million on pc, same as civilization 5 after someone who did data mining on steam data. put pc between PS3 and 360 sales )
you jest now,but there is nothing to keep people playing this game other than fanboyism..Eso is not a great mmo,in fact its the opposite...the world is lifeless, graphics are not great, most of the game is collect 3 books, pelts whatever quests, pvp is a joke..should I go on?
All you're really doing is saying why it isn't the game for you (apparently).
So that begs the question, what are you doing here?
I paid for it,will do what I want with my 30 days..thanks for asking

Let me help you out a bit, VG includes digital sales in their calculations, but it doesn't matter because I'm not using their data.
I understand many players don't post in forums, youtube, twitch, and all the others. That data just helped me determine a rough estimate of what percentage of players are likely to PvE vs PvP after some adjustments. It also helps track increasing or decreasing player base and other things of that nature. I also understand only a fraction of players PvP at the moment, this all accounted for.
All my "flaws"are accounted for using this model, keeping in mind the uncertainty of the data. I'm fairly confident total sales lie between 400,000 and 800,000. Hopefully I can narrow it done before the first paid month, in case they release the data.
I'm not looking at consoles yet, to far out. However my gut tells me the market penetration might not be overly favorable for consoles.
Incase you're curious over 20,000 players have purchased gold, roughly.

They can buy those for cash.
This way people can test and feel the game, and decide if its worth it to pay for a sub or stop.
Pricing if you pay for everything via cashshop €30 a month. so subbing is beneficial, but if you only like pvp, you can spend less money.

This game had many issues at launch and many continue to this day. Despite the "smooth launch" were we had no queues or server crashes we did immediately have quest breakdowns due to everyone packed in on a megaserver. Many of these problems still persist today and while Zenimax is diligently knocking these bugs out I fear that is only part of the problem.
Issues such as the bank eating peoples inventory, and magically disappearing bank upgrades were also a big deterrent and honestly something that should have never made it to launch. Problem with that is though, as far as I know this issue never cropped up in the Weekend Beta at least, and because of the limited time to test during that phase the issue was probably never brought to light.
In addition now we had and are having massive duping problems, and while this economy I think was already a joke before the duping problem, it is even more so now.
This game had many issues that were reported in the weekend Beta and went unfixed and many people in the Weekend Beta argued until they were blue in the face that those issues would be fixed or were fixed for the PTS and the game would be fine at launch. The problem with that statement was that the PTS never had the server load that the weekend testers provided and so it was never accurately determined what was fixed and what was not.
The argument that, "well its launch and these things should be expected". This kind of thinking is why we are in this situation to begin with. To accept this as the standard norm of MMO launches is quite ironically unacceptable. I can understand that a game of this magnitude in scope may have some issues, but certainly not the many, many issues we had for launch, and especially ones that have been reported since beta's from last year.
Rift had an essentially near perfect launch and everything worked, and everyone was able to play. To say that it is impossible for an MMO to launch flawlessly and to expect progression blocking bugs, or other various problems we have encountered with ESO, the game Rift proved that to be false.
I really enjoy this game overall, but it has many glaring issues, and I think as we near the 30 day deadline the less of a chance Zenimax has to maintain their P2P model.

Here is the fact: If the game can't sustain a fairly large subscriber base (and I'm not making any predictions, one way or the other), then yes, it will most definitely go free to play. The only alternative is to close up shop.
A quick review of history and statistics leans heavily in favor of free to play at some point, and in fact, sooner, rather than later. Don't blame me, blame the math. WoW and Eve (the only long term subscription only games I can think of) are the exceptions in this genre.
