It's the nature of the ME generation..what is in it for me?! I'm happy to pay for a game that I enjoy..most seem to complain about paying for a game more than they actually play the game.

I love that some will just mindlessly bash a game without knowing anything about said game just due to the subscription model. Pathetic.

I've noticed this behavior in several threads on this forum. Frankly, it's enough to make me sick.

I mean... I just don't get it. People expect the developers to just bend to their every want and desire... because something inconveniences their idea of fun. They won't listen to reason about anything, and constantly justify their points by bullying you into submission.

I really want to give these people a piece of my mind, but the reality is... the entire Politically Correct system of etiquette we live in works FOR them. You simply can't do this on a forum without running the risk of hurting someone's feelings, thereby providing yourself with an instant ban. We can't even engage in neighborly social correction anymore. People are supposed to correct those around them... not to be jerks... but for the betterment of the individual and the community.

It just simply blows my mind, these people.

I think once the game settles in and everyone who has their tighty-whiteys tied up in a knot make good on their threats of leaving, that this game will find itself in a situation where it's perfectly sustainable in a Subscription model.

I mean, there's this lie about Subscriptions that they cannot sustain. Subscription models never were "broken" and unprofitable in the first place. Nothing about their ability to produce revenue changed. The only thing that ever changed was the perspective of investors wanting to milk a cash cow for a low cost, and the gaming community who doesn't know any better being force fed F2P garbage for the past 6-7 years.
No People are just tired of being jacked around while they are paying for something that is half broken full of exploiters and Gold farmers and watching daily as *** all is being done about it..

Oh yeah and two days a week we can't even play the pos..i'll get my 2 months then move on, see you in Free to play, heh..

Lets get one thing straight, it is not us Millennials who are the ME generation (20s-early 30s), it's you GenXers(mid 30s-early 50s). Do you listen to yourselves?

The people who are "leaving" (I haven't noticed any of this btw) are the powergamers/powerlevelers who have no real life outside of gaming and just played for days on end to level and didn't take a look at the content at all.

When the gaming industry picks up on this they'll understand what's going on. Also, keep in mind folks buy a game and may not like it.

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/01/03/the-daily-grind-are-mmo-gamers-aging-out-of-the-genre/

You really should be blaming GenXers more as the "Me" folks when my generation only makes up 25% on average as the MMO group base.

I respect your opinion Robert. But I would say this game is structured in such a way to actually encourage players to power level to the end.

I know this because I am the exact opposite. I like to take my sweet time exploring and doing everything. And because of this, I constantly feel as if I'm struggling against the game's intended design.

For example, many of my quests today were grayed out for me. Seems I level at a rate much faster than I can complete the content itself. I can't keep up with upgrading my gear through my crafts. It just seems to me this game moves too fast.

What faction are you and what class? Also what level?

My highest is level 28 (EP NB) and it might be because I'm a completionist... so I go back and make sure all my map icons get filled in. Also, I like to make alts... plus I have finals to worry about... I like to go out sometimes... I gotta clean the house... etc When I play I do level fast I've noticed though.

I'm a level 18 Templar and joined the Ebonheart Pact.

Like you, I like to take my time and complete everything but differ on creating alternate characters. That I don't enjoy so much, and rarely do it on games.

It just seems like levels come at me so fast I can't keep the content relevant. So I could see why some catapult to the end. The game almost seems to encourage it with the rate of experience.

Even as I am wondering around Stonefalls at level 18 in my endless quest for crafting materials so I can at least craft myself green quality armor. I have been wary of reaching another level.

It just seems to me that the rate of experience for your character is out of whack with the rest of the game's design. They give us such huge lands to explore with numerous quests and an interesting crafting system yet program our characters to grow at such a pace it's nearly impossible to do it all without rapidly outgrowing it all in the process.

I think some of it was designed that way though. I know in Shadowfen, until I got a few more levels it was a bit difficult as a NB (Resto/Destro) to tackle 3 mob groups and some 2 mob groups. Now with 3 levels and figuring out how to manage my AoEs, it's not so hard.

I've learned to craft a green chest and that's it.

Content to me is also the story, so it doesn't phase me as much. (I gravitate towards group play, lean as a tank or healer player myself, and storyline. I still play TSW and am a Lifer because I love the story/ies.) The only game that keeps me playing because of the combat is oddly... STO.

Don't worry mate, with so many ESO fans from former games of them this game will never go f2p and will keep massives of players if they keep atleast an expansion every year

This game has probably sold about 600,000 copies. If it retains the average after the free month that will put total subs at around 210,000. The game may go FTP quicker than some of realize.

Eso is nothing remotely like the predecessor games, so I don't see how your post makes sense at all.

Please can you show me the source of the numbers that you just stated.

Ahh that's right I know... the AIR!

Also you need to factor in the consoles, they will hit a shed load of sales on consoles. In all Skyrim sold over 20 million copies world wide. only 14% of which were on the PC (which is still almost 3m) so I would believe 600'000 is probably a little off.

It will not go F2P for a long while.

Actually, I pulled it out of my MATLAB model. I took readily available data, such as, ESO uploads, posts, searches, ect, at differing times in the day to calculate trends in, for example how many players play PvP as compared PvE.

There's still a large variance that should improve with time, but no more than +/-200k, I started running a refined version with more data and well see what I get.

But whatever, i don't really care if you believe me or not, it's just something I'm playing around with. Hopefully they will release real sales numbers eventually, I'd like to compare.

It would appear at this point that the game may go the route of Swtor in terms of not if, but how fast it will go FTP. However, it will not be for entirely the same reasons that Swtor went FTP I think. Note how I stated may, it is not a definite yes, but at this point I am personally worried about the future business model.

This game had many issues at launch and many continue to this day. Despite the "smooth launch" were we had no queues or server crashes we did immediately have quest breakdowns due to everyone packed in on a megaserver. Many of these problems still persist today and while Zenimax is diligently knocking these bugs out I fear that is only part of the problem.

Issues such as the bank eating peoples inventory, and magically disappearing bank upgrades were also a big deterrent and honestly something that should have never made it to launch. Problem with that is though, as far as I know this issue never cropped up in the Weekend Beta at least, and because of the limited time to test during that phase the issue was probably never brought to light.

In addition now we had and are having massive duping problems, and while this economy I think was already a joke before the duping problem, it is even more so now.

This game had many issues that were reported in the weekend Beta and went unfixed and many people in the Weekend Beta argued until they were blue in the face that those issues would be fixed or were fixed for the PTS and the game would be fine at launch. The problem with that statement was that the PTS never had the server load that the weekend testers provided and so it was never accurately determined what was fixed and what was not.

The argument that, "well its launch and these things should be expected". This kind of thinking is why we are in this situation to begin with. To accept this as the standard norm of MMO launches is quite ironically unacceptable. I can understand that a game of this magnitude in scope may have some issues, but certainly not the many, many issues we had for launch, and especially ones that have been reported since beta's from last year.

Rift had an essentially near perfect launch and everything worked, and everyone was able to play. To say that it is impossible for an MMO to launch flawlessly and to expect progression blocking bugs, or other various problems we have encountered with ESO, the game Rift proved that to be false.

I really enjoy this game overall, but it has many glaring issues, and I think as we near the 30 day deadline the less of a chance Zenimax has to maintain their P2P model.

I really like this game a lot, I am one of the players who hasn't even hit lv 20 yet. I have just been exploring and enjoying everything that i can see. I also have enjoyed theory crafting with builds and trying different characters out and seeing what makes them work or not. I really do not want to see this game go F2P, I am actually putting a lot of faith into this game and hoping that they get things fixed. I have not had the problems people have had, only had a really difficult time during the 5 day early start. This will be the first time that I give the benefit of the doubt to the devs and hope that things start heading in the right direction, and this is coming from someone who actually wanted nothing to do with this game because I was a hardcore Elder Scrolls fan but i purchased it because the wife wanted it. Now that I have gotten a chance to play it I really enjoy it, its still not a ES game, but its a great fantasy mmo that i really enjoy.

Well more than 250K bought the physical version of the game after VGCharts, an majority bought the digital version, 2/3 digital gives 750, higher digital faction push sales up toward an million.

Two main errors in your calculations, first is that the majority is not on forums.
Majority is still leveling up, they see PvP as more of an endgame activity so they will continue leveling well past the first month.

Yes had it only been the PC version it would be an chance the game would go F2P as I would doubt they would keep 250k long term subscribers.

However the console version will bring in more players, I guess console sales will bypass PC sales after some months as its an lack of RPG in general for next gen.

Long term it depend on content added not launch issues.

    Yup.
The limited 'bank' will push them to P2W in a few months; that alone before any of their other abysmal failures.
The horrible market (the guild method works fine, but the extortion fee and sorting functions are abysmal) will drive people away. The limited and overly simplified - and anemic - crafting system will drive away others.

After loosing pretty much their entire early comers to bad design choices they'll either come around to what people want to play or they'll go F2P (P2W) and make fat $$$ on bank expansions like every other game out there.

Let me help you out a bit, VG includes digital sales in their calculations, but it doesn't matter because I'm not using their data.

I understand many players don't post in forums, youtube, twitch, and all the others. That data just helped me determine a rough estimate of what percentage of players are likely to PvE vs PvP after some adjustments. It also helps track increasing or decreasing player base and other things of that nature. I also understand only a fraction of players PvP at the moment, this all accounted for.

All my "flaws"are accounted for using this model, keeping in mind the uncertainty of the data. I'm fairly confident total sales lie between 400,000 and 800,000. Hopefully I can narrow it done before the first paid month, in case they release the data.

I'm not looking at consoles yet, to far out. However my gut tells me the market penetration might not be overly favorable for consoles.

Incase you're curious over 20,000 players have purchased gold, roughly.

Haha after all the crap i've endured its probably when i'll play again, Free to Play or nothing in my mind ...Sorry

I see many people say this and it is illogical. If you want something to be good, get better or remain good, you need to support it.

Without support then yes, the inevitable will happen.

If everyone thought like this on every aspect, football, movies etc... then we'd have none of those things.

So I for one, want this game to be great, so I am willing to help them by supporting them in their efforts.

F2P games always end up being money grabbing cluster*** and after SWTOR i will NEVER play another one in my life. I would rather play a single player game that isn't shoving adverts down my throat at every opportunity.

If you want the crap to stop, help support them, if not then just go.

Give p2p players acces to everything, all new content, no restrictions (unlike what SWTOR did) And let f2p players only be able to do the standard quests. no pvp, no dungeons, no mage guild, no fighters guild. and only be able to play end game content that is 2 patches behind current for subs. You are right VGCharts uses digital sales from the stores who gives them data.
You can buy ESO digital version from various stores, this tend to be cheaper than the store on this site.
However they do not list data they don't have, Skyrim 14% sales on PC is an good indicator. I see that they currently list Skyrim at 3.4 million on PC now who is up to 20%.
Yes store sales will increase for ESO too as its cheaper than the site shop, however this late sales are not included as the 250k is just preorder and first day sales.

No I don't totally disagree with you but don't know your data, feel that the 800k is an decent estimate if a bit pessimistic.

You talk about an demo, WOW has an demo, decent chance ESO get one too, say limited to the 1-15 area
Some other restrictions like mail and zone chat is disabled to stop them from being used for spaming, might also be an idea to put them on an separate shard even server, in this case you could give them some PvP too.
This however will not happen before well after the console release.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

These sounds about like the same lame lamentations I heard over a year ago about FFXIV. Guess what? THAT is still P2P. You don't like the game, well kthbye

I really enjoy this game overall, but it has many glaring issues, and I think as we near the 30 day deadline the less of a chance Zenimax has to maintain their P2P model.

very well put, I have had enough already with various issues (game lag/ freezing/ ability's not working/ passives that stop/ bugged quests etc etc etc. that are affecting gameplay but the amount of ppl that just accept these problems and then defend them is truly frustrating.

If this was anything other than a game, whether it's an electrical good/ car/ cd /dvd anything with problems it would be taken back to the retail outlet and would ask for a refund, but because it's a game we are supposed to accept that it will be fixed probably at somepoint.

The biggest thing though has to be the crap communication from Zenimax that doesn't point to what is going to be done about these issues, just another poor company that sticks their head in the sand to ignore the glaring issues but are more than happy to point out to ppl all the positive reviews of ppl that have played for only the first 10 lvls.

Yeah, everyone. even the hackers who could login in anyones' account without knowing password OR userID, thanks to a client bug.

As they say, way to go, way to go...

How is the drama going? If I was Bethesda, first I would organize these forums, and be VERY specific on subject matter, and then MOVE posts that do not belong in any category without mercy or explanation. In example, this thread which belongs under the new ~Opinion~ section. A place where one can make the biggest assertions, act like a 'know-it-all', be the pompous ass one loves to be, and make the greatest 'doom and gloom' posts one can come up with. You can also call it 'Entertainment', same nonsense.

Get serious people, join the real world and get off the podium and stop wasting society's time.

F2P always ends up P2W and usually costs a shipload more to play sans frustration.

If continuing to charge a sub keeps the content coming, the game becoming more refined and the world growng, then I am all for it.

Well, they did. This is "Player helps player" but tards still use it as Troll Central. As always, we will have to wait till the 30 days are over and all the kids go trolling Wildstar or whatever game comes out

F2P will be the death of this game, fingers crossed they never change from the sub/time-card method. I want ESO to advance to the same pedestal as EVE and other long standing sub games.

Here is the fact: If the game can't sustain a fairly large subscriber base (and I'm not making any predictions, one way or the other), then yes, it will most definitely go free to play. The only alternative is to close up shop.

A quick review of history and statistics leans heavily in favor of free to play at some point, and in fact, sooner, rather than later. Don't blame me, blame the math. WoW and Eve (the only long term subscription only games I can think of) are the exceptions in this genre.
