Won't go f2p will it?

The more I play the more I know that this game Will go F2P in the near future, it is buggy as hell! People are not able to progress due to several quest bugs, there is not a single play session that I need to relog in order to finish a bugged quest, the number of bots and gold sellers is incredible... it is a great game... but a very bad MMO, they should have focused their resources in making a great The Elder Scrolls VI, not this Mediocre MMO.

Except if it stops making a profit.

No business in the history of ever would keep something running at a loss.

They would have a choice of going free or simply shutting the servers.

If, and it is a big if, it does go free to play then it will take a hell of a lot longer than a month.

Even if we go on box sales alone that would be enough to keep the servers running for a few months without subscriptions on top of it.

Look at SWTOR, that started losing players by the thousands but it was a year before it went free.

This has been nowhere near the disaster that game was.

It might not get a multi million player base but I think it can maintain a few hundred thousand which should be enough to keep it going.

Of course, this is all speculation. The only people that know what is going on is Zenimax and they probably won't shout out their income and losses per month.

It may go free to play but it may not. But if it does we won't see it this year I wouldn't think.

    No.

Pay to win would be if you could buy the best weapons and armour.

At most that's pay to be competitive.

People really need to stop throwing pay to win around. Buying average items isn't pay to win, it's not even close.

Being able to buy the best items that can't be found in the game by normal means is pay to win.

I just wanted to let you know that it's Providence Equity LLP that funded this game and that you can thank venture capitalists for what we have gotten. And I bet they can think of plenty of reasons to go F2P.

I doubt this will go F2P anytime soon. Too many folks are having a lot of fun and telling their friends about it. (Yes, a relatively small number of people are magnifying bugs into a game breaking thing - there will always be those folks.) Not being a "Fanboy", just what I see when I am running around in this world listening to open chat and guild chats. People that are already crying the demise of the sub in ESO are either just naturally pessimistic, like it but too poor to pay,or have spent too much time reading all the over-the-top posts in the forum.

And as for that term "Fanboy" - let's face it, it is a crutch certain people fall back on when they people like a game they have chosen to trash. Once you stoop to using that term, you lose credibility. It shows that you realize how weak your arguments are and now have to result to name calling. Most so called "Fanboys" are just reasonable people who understand how games work and therefore don't have to become frothing lunatics with every problem they encounter.

make no mistake if this game goes free to play its because they released it too early with major exploits and bugs.

The game is great and easily could have been a juggernaut. I know MMOs release with a lot of bugs but I doubt these will be fixed in a timely manner. (but we'll see) I also agree with @Nazon_Katts that the reason it was released so early and all the issues we are seeing is because of Providence EQuity Partners. I guarantee the devs shouted and screamed the game was not ready for a full release.

Corporate thinking just doesn't mix well with entertainment and gaming in particular. Actually, it doesn't really mix that well with everday human life either. At least not for us 99%, makes me wonder why we still insist in participating.

Ah well, that problem will solve itself eventually, but neither us nor them are going to be particularly fond of the solution, I fear. And enough of derailing this thread, shouldn't get all too political around here.

I don't want this game to go F2P. I will quit the game if they even mention they might go F2P.

But if they don't start adding OPTIONAL features that MMO players want then I don't see how they can stay P2P because most people are going to leave.

It's nice they're catering to only the hardcore immersion crowd not having these standard options MMO players are used to but I don't think the immersion crowd is large enough to support the game and keep the P2P model running.

Communication is key also, I think they should be talking to us about the game and what they plan on doing in the future and also they should think about those standard optional features.

To name one feature: Chat bubbles is a must, it's just an obvious must have feature... The people that don't want them just don't like an MMO, they wanted the single player experience without communicating with players, they like that everybody out in the world looks like NPCs running around.

Give people the option to either turn them off or on, that way the people that don't like talking to people can never see chat bubbles but those of us that enjoy talking out in the world to people will have the option.

Immersion ruined by chat bubbles? *rolls eyes* please... NOT having chat bubbles ruins MY immersion.

Even new MMOs coming out are going to have chat bubbles, I have played so many MMOs that I can't even count and not a single one didn't have chat bubbles, I don't know what makes ESO so special that they think they don't need them.

They seem too cocky and confident with their game not needing optional features like this it's ridiculous.

Then you got those hardcore immersion types that will tell you

    "speak for yourself"

    "we don't need them!"

"Quit the game or play a game with chat bubbles"

Those types will be the downfall of the game going F2P when it happens, it's nice to defend your game with your life but there really is nothing wrong with optional/toggable features.

Not everybody who runs a large business fits the stereotype you see on T.V. Not every CEO is a Donald Trump in the making. Can be both ambitious and interested in promoting a creative environment for their artistic staff.

Zenimax seems to be balancing this pretty well as far as I'm concerned. I see a strongly polarized artistic direction in the design of this game. But yes, they are a business. They want to make money. There's nothing wrong with capitalism, despite how trendy it is to say otherwise these days.
