The idea is very simple and one I've sat on for years. With some of the other housing QOL changes we've seen lately (adjustable time and weather), maybe we can get some kind of toggle for PvP in houses?
I don't mean being able to duel 1v1, which we obviously already have. I mean being able to turn the entire house into a PvP zone and having different settings for it, such as:
- Free-For-All. Everyone vs. Everyone. Would be active the moment everyone enters the house (if toggled to "always on") OR the moment the PvP setting is turned on.
- Alliance vs Alliance, i.e. Pact vs Dominion vs Covenant. Same activation parameters as above.
- 1v1, but its the entire house instead of a small, specific area around a flag. Maybe to trigger this one, you'd need PvP enabled for the house and then enter a duel so if you have multiple players in the house, it knows who to flag for PvP and who not to.
- Team vs Team, with different players able to choose which team they're on. Maybe this would work by having PvP enabled and then having people on each team Group up, and whoever is inside your group is counted as your "team" by the game mechanics? And everyone else outside of group is flagged as an "enemy" you can attack?
Additionally, maybe having a setting with a timer for how long PvP is active in a house (or an option for "Always on" and "Always off"), and something to track D/K/As.
Yes, I know there is Alliance War/Cyrodiil, Imperial City, and Battlegrounds. Yes, I already know some people will think such a setting might negatively impact participation in the PvP zones themselves.
However, there are certain situations and styles of PvP that these zones don't really account for, and I feel there's a segment of the game that does enjoy PvP, but not in the way that its currently set up. I'm one of those people. I do enjoy PvP, but I don't particularly enjoy any of the PvP options (except 1v1 dueling) that are available, which means I just don't participate in them at all outside of when something forces me to (achievement hunting and MYM style pages).
I don't get enjoyment out of queueing into a BG once and a while just to get utterly roflstomped by the "PvP Pros" who that's all they do, or just the general straight "gamey"-ness of PvP.
What I've personally always wanted and would enjoy, as being more heavy on the roleplay side of the game, and a Nightblade main, is being able to do things like setting up a custom "playground" / "training ground" for things like an "assassin tournament" where you just let loose a bunch of players sneaking around trying to defeat everyone else and be the last one standing, and things like that.
I've always dreamed of being able to make an assassin-themed guild and throw 20 players into a big house built with hiding spots, catwalks, etc. all sneaking around trying to best one another as a "training exercise" or something to that effect using the PvP mechanics of the game.
For something like this, a public battlegrounds match or Cyrodiil or Imperial City are just never going to meet that vision. Trying to roleplay something like that and "pretend" at PvP just isn't quite it either, since for instance you could set up some place with lots of bushes and visual barriers, but them immediately see someone from 50 yards away hovering your mouse over them because it shows nameplates even if they're buried in a bush otherwise invisible.
Duels are also limited to 1v1 and have a distance limit before the game automatically "forfeits" a player out of PvP. Perfectly fine for what it was intended for (1v1 with two players fighting close by to each other) but not for what I'd have in mind.
For obvious reasons, these housing PvP options would not grant things like Alliance Points, Tel Var, BG medals, or anything that would normally be awarded in actual PvP ranked parts of the game, so if someone wanted to earn those things, they'd have to go into public PvP spaces.
Added Ideas:
- To keep the feature from being annoying or abusable to people who might port to guild-members' houses, participate in random house tours, or from getting camped and ganked repeatedly at respawn, have some sort of warning or tag that tells a player when a house is PVP enabled, and also have an "immunity zone" around the entrance that prevents attacking players similar to the immunity added to players in Imperial City when going through doorways to new sections/instances of the zone (thanks @Danikat for the addition).
