Suggestion: PvP Houses

The idea is very simple and one I've sat on for years. With some of the other housing QOL changes we've seen lately (adjustable time and weather), maybe we can get some kind of toggle for PvP in houses?

I don't mean being able to duel 1v1, which we obviously already have. I mean being able to turn the entire house into a PvP zone and having different settings for it, such as:
  • Free-For-All. Everyone vs. Everyone. Would be active the moment everyone enters the house (if toggled to "always on") OR the moment the PvP setting is turned on.
  • Alliance vs Alliance, i.e. Pact vs Dominion vs Covenant. Same activation parameters as above.
  • 1v1, but its the entire house instead of a small, specific area around a flag. Maybe to trigger this one, you'd need PvP enabled for the house and then enter a duel so if you have multiple players in the house, it knows who to flag for PvP and who not to.
  • Team vs Team, with different players able to choose which team they're on. Maybe this would work by having PvP enabled and then having people on each team Group up, and whoever is inside your group is counted as your "team" by the game mechanics? And everyone else outside of group is flagged as an "enemy" you can attack?

Additionally, maybe having a setting with a timer for how long PvP is active in a house (or an option for "Always on" and "Always off"), and something to track D/K/As.

Yes, I know there is Alliance War/Cyrodiil, Imperial City, and Battlegrounds. Yes, I already know some people will think such a setting might negatively impact participation in the PvP zones themselves.

However, there are certain situations and styles of PvP that these zones don't really account for, and I feel there's a segment of the game that does enjoy PvP, but not in the way that its currently set up. I'm one of those people. I do enjoy PvP, but I don't particularly enjoy any of the PvP options (except 1v1 dueling) that are available, which means I just don't participate in them at all outside of when something forces me to (achievement hunting and MYM style pages).

I don't get enjoyment out of queueing into a BG once and a while just to get utterly roflstomped by the "PvP Pros" who that's all they do, or just the general straight "gamey"-ness of PvP.

What I've personally always wanted and would enjoy, as being more heavy on the roleplay side of the game, and a Nightblade main, is being able to do things like setting up a custom "playground" / "training ground" for things like an "assassin tournament" where you just let loose a bunch of players sneaking around trying to defeat everyone else and be the last one standing, and things like that.

I've always dreamed of being able to make an assassin-themed guild and throw 20 players into a big house built with hiding spots, catwalks, etc. all sneaking around trying to best one another as a "training exercise" or something to that effect using the PvP mechanics of the game.

For something like this, a public battlegrounds match or Cyrodiil or Imperial City are just never going to meet that vision. Trying to roleplay something like that and "pretend" at PvP just isn't quite it either, since for instance you could set up some place with lots of bushes and visual barriers, but them immediately see someone from 50 yards away hovering your mouse over them because it shows nameplates even if they're buried in a bush otherwise invisible.

Duels are also limited to 1v1 and have a distance limit before the game automatically "forfeits" a player out of PvP. Perfectly fine for what it was intended for (1v1 with two players fighting close by to each other) but not for what I'd have in mind.

For obvious reasons, these housing PvP options would not grant things like Alliance Points, Tel Var, BG medals, or anything that would normally be awarded in actual PvP ranked parts of the game, so if someone wanted to earn those things, they'd have to go into public PvP spaces.

Added Ideas:
  • To keep the feature from being annoying or abusable to people who might port to guild-members' houses, participate in random house tours, or from getting camped and ganked repeatedly at respawn, have some sort of warning or tag that tells a player when a house is PVP enabled, and also have an "immunity zone" around the entrance that prevents attacking players similar to the immunity added to players in Imperial City when going through doorways to new sections/instances of the zone (thanks @Danikat for the addition).

sure an optional PvP feature for Housing would be fine.

I suggest one addition: if you try to enter a house with PvP enabled you get a warning that it's a PvP house, and you have to accept to enter.

I don't care if other people want to do this but I'd never want to go to those houses, and I will often visit random guild members houses, ones recommended on house tours etc. and don't want to have to stop doing that or deal with gankers farming people as they come in.

Maybe there should also be a precaution against that for people who do want to fight. Something like you're invulnerable until you move, or the spot by the door is a safe zone. Something to make sure people can't just camp the entrace and kill you each time you enter or respawn.

I would love to see more support for PvP in houses! We can already build custom arenas and obstacle courses in our houses, but we can only duel 1v1 in them. It'd be a lot of fun to have support for larger PvP formats in them — I'm particularly interested in the free-for-all idea.

Heckin COOL idea!!!! I have played several open-world PvP games, and so ESO having only really 1 PvP zone is honestly a bit odd to me. I adore housing and PvP frightens me... having a *private* place to learn and practice with friends who would encourage and not flame me? HOLY POOPS YES! And then........... one day......... I might have the skill and courage to go to real PvP land, where the achievement furnishings live!

Someone get @Cardinal05 in here! He listens to the housing community and some of our FAVORITE recent features are DIRECTLY because he is such a good go-between with the community and the devs (he is an ESO gamer-turned-zoscoderdevperson).

I'd be happy with this feature either in its own sandbox-style home (think the moonsugar meadow, surreal estate, etc) only, OR as a toggle for *any* home. Additionally, I'd be happy with either full cyro-style pvp OR reduced vengeance-style skills.

    What a brilliant idea!!! 11/10

ESO already has an option for this in certain PvP zones like Imperial City for when you go through doors to new instances in the zone and such. I don't think it'd be anything too hard to recycle into housing PvP around entrances if they did add something like what I'm suggesting.

Definitely a good addition to the idea.

I don't PvP but I'd always thought this would be a fantastic use of housing. People could effectively build their own PvP zones.

Too many reasons to list why there shouldn't be housing in Cyrodiil.

Got to admit though, it might be kind of fun for some to camp the entrances to such a house much like the town quest turn in's get camped by unscrupulous players during MYM events.

I wasn't suggesting there be housing inside Cyrodiil.

I was suggesting we be able to enable PvP inside player housing to make a house into its own PvP zone for those who would find use of such a feature.

I think this is a good Idea, but did they ever fix the issue with AoEs being uncastable on placed structures. Might be a let down if someone builds an arena and effects go strait threw the floor.

However this Idea pretty much allows us to make our own Pvp content like in Halo with the forge system. Granted there's no rewards outside of what guild masters and players provide. I had a blast designing my own game modes in Halo Reach. It was the main thing me and my friends did for years.

I have always wanted Group duels added in the game without being locked to an alliance. Being able to have Group duels in a house would be awesome. You can fight between friends, test builds and more. A problem we always had with Group PvP tournamnets was always being alliance locked. So all the teams in the same alliance could never fight each other. With group duels available we would be able to host 2v2s, 3v3s etc and all teams could fight each other.

Perhaps they could make so only the group leaders can challenge each other for the group duel to start. It should probably only be available in a house, so the duels wont affect or be affected by zone lag.

That would be very interesting to enter some creepy house (dark forest or ancient crypt-themed, for example) and be thrilled by the fact that you might meet enemy player there :) Refreshing!

However, I generally like other players around me (even in IC I never attack first) and I don't like PvP without rewards, so it would not be something I would regularly participate in

I don’t see an option that would fit my position. I like the idea, but I also think that it shouldn’t be implemented any time soon because PvP population cannot afford it right now. When / if it rebounds and we have more than enough players (for 300 per faction Cyro…), then sure, that could be great.
