Bank Account Being Charged?

  • RichterVonStrid
So what about people like me? Not having the money is one thing. You might be able to borrow it or something. My box is in the mail, even though I ordered it months ago, and will not arrive till Tuesday. I have no options. Without a code I am ***. I can't even pay for the month to avoid missing out, since I CAN'T SET UP SUB WITHOUT A CODE! Total bs. I was loving the game, and now I am seriously considering returning it.

How are they to know if you actually paid for your preorder or not? You know lots of people wanted CE boxes and were unable to buy them. You should consider yourself lucky you got one.

BECAUSE I ALREADY PUT IN MY PRE-ORDER CODE! It was emailed during the beta. That is how i got my 5 days early access, the horse, the vanity pet, etc. They have already given me these things. Clearly I have already paid them, A LOT OF MONEY. What I don't have is the full game access code that comes in the box, so now I can't play anymore. This is bs, no two ways about it.

You dont have to pay upfront for preorders at a lot of places. Gamestop for example didnt charge me until it shipped.

I ordered this game on 1/30. That gave the re-seller plenty of time to figure out how to get the game to my door, don't you think? I did nothing wrong and now I am being penalized. Perhaps the re-seller messed up and didn't ship in time. Perhaps Zenimax did not get the product released to re-sellers in time. I don't know and I don't care. I was promised that if I payed $100 I would get to play a game. The money has been taken from my account and I am out in the cold. Zenimax can easily fix the situation buy extending the grace period to a week.

Zenimax did nothing wrong either. They sent the boxes to the reseller. I knew if I wanted it before early access ended I better pay for overnight shipping because the 4th was a Friday.

Plenty of people paid for expedited shipping and did not receive their package. Also, you are assuming that the blame is entirely on the reseller. They cannot ship copies that have not been released to them. How do you know Zenimax did not botch the product flow?

    I will reiterate though,

I DON'T CARE WHO'S FAULT IT IS! Zenimax is selling an experience that I have already paid for. They could easily fix it and so far have not.

This is... Pretty frustrating. I carry most of my money in cash (keeps me knowing my spending limits paycheck to paycheck) and thus don't have enough in my account to cover a sub currently. This shouldn't mean I'm unable to use my included 30 days, but looks like it will. I don't understand why a test fee would be full price. Not a very wise decision.

Ah well. Hopefully support gets back to me. Best of luck to the rest of you. This ain't fun.
  • invisiBeelity
There should just be an option to "BEGIN 30 DAYS FREE ACCESS" on the account page. When that runs out THEN ask for billing info. Why do I need to set up a sub plan JUST to get the 30 free days? Makes no sense. If people have already purchased, the free days should just be granted.

Alas, that would make far too much sense.

I've logged a call about 48 hours again, for the 3rd time, to get someone to assist with activating my imperial addition as they stated on the site. Still no luck and no one has even gotten back to me.

Why do I need to set up a sub plan JUST to get the 30 free days? Makes no sense.
The reason is in the ToS and was already explained some pages ago... if you plan to cancel your subscription, you need to notify ZeniMax at least 30 days in advance. Given that as you create a subscription plan to play your 30 days, those 30 days become immediately 29, you can cancel your subscription for the next month, but ZeniMax can still charge you for it.

As Customer Care explicitly said, and you can find copy/pasted messages in this thread, you need to pay a(nother) month to play the month you already paid for.

This is rediculous. Now I'm considering cancelling my subscription after it expires. This game is made of bugs. Release an untested game and make customers pay TWICE. Way to go, my friends.

I went to gamespot to buy a time card today since I can't enter a credit card in for sub and they told me that they have received no cards from zenimax yet! No pre-paid cards, yet we are cut off from our 30 days of free game time! How disapointing! I even tried to give you my money!

I agree, it was unexpected by me as well, to have to pay at to begin the 30 free day access. Just to clarify, each player is required to have a subscription plan in mind before getting into the actual game. Ideally, you won't be getting charged for this until the end of the 30 day period, so you can end this at any point. These charges may appear as "pending" until that time, so the money may not be available. Furthermore, if any charges weren't completed on our end--and since none were, according to these tickets--you should be getting the money credited back for the incomplete transactions within three to five business days (but some customers get these a little earlier).

So! If you would still be interested in setting up a subscription plan through our site, you can try the following troubleshooting tips:

    - Try clearing your cache, history, and cookies in your browser before making a new purchase.
    - Try using a new browser.
    - Try double checking all of your information on the site; anything wrong, such as writing "St." instead of "St", or by using an address after a move, could cause complications.
    - Try purchasing with a mobile phone, or on another machine, with another source of internet.
    - Try again later, since there could be a lot of traffic on the site.

I hope that was able to help, and clear up some questions. If you would like me to call you later, please let me know, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible! I hope we can get this resolved tonight.

16 hours and waiting.. This is the answer i got after 1 hour from email, so emailing took 1 hour and phone is taking +16 hours..
Sadly I went to sleep right after I sent the email as it was at 2 am and I only sent the email incase the phone would take more than 1 day (but in turn, the email took 1 hour)..

Like others who have posted, I dislike that they did the full amount as the auth charge instead of $1 or a penny like reputable companies do, and their lack of response to their customers is extremely disappointing. They should be doing everything they can to a) get as many customers playing as possible and b) making sure customers are happy. They're doing neither.

I also agree that it is wrong not to tell people the authorization amount ahead of time; nobody expects the full amount to be authorized for an MMO subscription.

I am in the US and no retailers have the gamecards yet (which is what I had planned to use if I chose to continue after the 30 days) and ESO online store doesn't offer gametime either -- extremely poor planning on their part.

I chose to use PayPal to get access to my free 30 days, and luckily had enough in my balance to cover the auth. For me, the authorization was instant. By the time I'd closed the account page on ESO and opened up PayPal, it was already marked as "canceled by seller" by PayPal.

    From the PayPal transaction page:
    Status: Canceled
The seller canceled this payment, and the money has been returned to your account.
    Customer Service URL: http://www.zenimaxonline.com
    Customer Service Email: paypalEU@zenimaxonline.com
    Customer Service Phone: 855-296-3170

I have no idea why their paypal address is EU when I'm US and used USD, but whatever. It seems there's alot of stuff going on at Zenimax that makes no sense.

    From my ESO account page:
    Game Time Remaining
You have 29 days of game time remaining.
    Billing Date
You will be billed on May 7, 2014 for $14.99

The fact that they said they would work with people who don't have $12 available on their credit cards should be enough to solve the problem. First they spell out how the subscription works well before the release date. Then they make it clear that it's a temporary authorization that falls off your card (this means you still have 30 days free). So really there is absolutely nothing to complain about. If you don't have the funds, they will work with you. How is that shady? How is that bad business practices?

This is why free MMOs were a bad idea. Because now people expect completely free. Now it's entitlement. Now they are owed something. You are owed nothing. You work, assuming you aren't subsidized by your parents or the government, to earn money, where you decide how to spend it. Zenimax provides entertainment value for a price. You don't like that price. You don't want to pay it. But you are still entitled to receive the entertainment?

Let's call it for what it is: after spending your hard-earned entertainment dollars on a carton of smokes, six pack of brew, taco bell, feed the 5 dogs, grab a few lottery tickets while replenishing the slim jim stock, renewing our *** subs, and buying one more micro SD card on sale at Target for the digital camera you don't even use anymore, there really isn't enough money on the card left for a $12 auth that falls off in 24-48 hours. We all understand. So what to do, what to do. You can either call their support line and they'll help you out. Or you can come here and complain because you are not getting exactly what you feel you are entitled to, when you feel you are entitled to it.

So again the choices are: (1) act like an adult, or (2) act like a 4 year old. Because option (3) act like a financially-responsible adult is clearly out the window.

The point my friend is that some people want to pay with timecards, and some can only pay with time cards. This fix by zen means that those people have to pay for a time card b4 they get their FREE days!
It sux, it shady and it so not even needed!

@Carafina34 Actually people are ticked over authorizations, and that is what the title of the post is about. Which a few to many people have conveniently forgot or overlooked because that isn't their issue, but they are going to troll about it to get attention, not to mention that what you are referring to is a separate issue entirely.

    Edit: Added reference quotes.

Actully if you read all the posts both issues are annoying people and cause the same issue- paying for the sub before you get you paid for /free time. IMO THE TIMECARD ISSUE IS THE BIGGER ONE COZ IF YOU WANT/NEED TO PAY BY ONE YOU DEFO LOSE UR FREE TIME IF YOU DONT oooops caps ;p

ok so i understand they want to know how are we going to pay for future game time, i totally understand that, but when i chose that i will paid with pre-paid game card it asks for game card code. how does that help me play. if i have 30 days of game time REMAINING, if they were planning on charging me for those 30 days they should of made it clear that i was suppose to pay for that time. so i have to pay to use the "30 days of game time remaining"? IF NOT if they just want to know how i plan to pay in future basis n i chose to pay like i said with pre-paid elder scrolls game card why are they asking me to enter redeem code NOW?

They want everyone to have an active subscription which don't make much sense. I dont get the point of adding a recurring subscription if ppl cancel it anyway because the 30days aint over.

And some ppl just screwed because they need Gametime cards or they use Ideal

"If you have a valid CC you won't be charged for "another month", except during authorization which is a short period of time."

I see that you are continuing with your misinformation campaign...can't say that I am surprised.

    Here are some facts:

-- My first payment using PayPal with Visa backup has been pending authorization since April 5.

--I contacted support and was sent a generic message largely unrelated to my problem approximately 10 hours later.

-- I was unable to access my account come midday April 6.

-- I put money into my Paypal account today (thanks to a friend, since banks take 3 days) and that charge cleared.

-- I have yet to get a follow-up reply from support (from before I partially resolved the issue with my own funds) this April 7th and never received a callback.

-- I have to spend even more time to ensure that the first sub is canceled.

So while I ignored your defensive, spiteful reply to my opinion on how you were handling matters in the forum, I will set the record straight that:

You are simply wrong, both here and elsewhere.

The authorization is not always short, my service -- that I paid good money for -- was interrupted, AND for a time an *additional* $30 was tied-up -- ($15 of it still is as of now) just to continue to play a game that I paid for with the same valid credit card that I used to buy the game in the first place.

The same card that, for some reason, didn't work on their highly inflated authorization amount.

And I don't begrudge Zenimax, but there are so many simple things they could have done and should have done to avoid this problem, not least of which being scheduling this mandatory subscription on a weekday when banks are available for customer service; and being better equipped to handle customer support.

With the Beta interest -- the immense demand for customer support (be it this or another problem) is no surprise.

Most seem to agree that the charge amount is not good business and had they put a customary hold, my PayPal would have covered it the first time as Visa and my bank would not have been involved. From past experience, I suspect fraud protection measures have slowed things down.

Lastly, I have a vested interest in this thread. Why are you still here?

ok i read up on the billing info it says that if u bought the physical copy ur codes should be in box, but if u bought game digitally my redeem code should have been sent to my email after purchasing the game, which i don't have in my email i haven't deleted any ESO messages since i bought the game and signed up for beta i DO NOT have any type of redeem code after purchase game digitally. i just have the "verify ur account for beta", "thank you for applying to beta" and "you forum account has been activated" followed by "u have earned ur first comment badge" followed by "launch date has arrived" is there a way i can get the codes NOW. even though im sure there isnt. just sayin i didnt get any game redeem codes via thru email.

ZOS handed out tousands of beta keys to curse.com, premium accounts who payed $5 had instant access to their beta keys. Many people just made a temporary account on curse.com, got their keys and cancel accounts to get their $5 back.

People lost their manners or maybe new generation and they come to this forums and brag about it, how they cheat the system and abuse it. I am 100% behind ZOS on this subject. After i made a subscription plan i saw this line on my e-mail "You have agreed that we are providing you immediate access to the digital content or service and this purchase is final." In my opinion many people who are overreacting to this issue who will probably after 30 days free(?) game time will eventually say they are not happy with the game and get their money back. These were the f2p players who trying to spend time till another free game comes. If you are one of these person i am talking about, smart move from ZOS against these system exploiters.

P.S: For the people who are honest and had problems about that issue i feel for you, hopefully soon everything will calm down and you can continue to play. Many people needed to suffer because of these exploiters, you can spot them easily on this forum, they had no intention to play at all.
