    1. They messed up. How on earth they didn't foresee a backlash from this decision is beyond me. So they're either incompetent or jeez I don't even know.
    2. Why on earth do we have to have money in our account? We paid the box price which was said to come with 30 days free. We have zero zip nada obligations to pay them more money.
    3. If you don't have more than 14.99 in your bank account (for whatever reason)(I literally mean for whatever reason) then you should put down this freaking video game and get your *** together.

So my *** isn't together simply because I only get paid once a month? Jesus Christ...

I could have $1000 in my account (i don't) but without a credit card or debit card it makes very little difference either way, i have no paypal and my bank doesn't even allow debit cards here in Aus...

Hmm, this bugs me because the conformation email I received said $0.00 due, and my account said first billing would be in May (also says I have 30 days of game time) but I have a pending $14.99 on my bank account? They said they wouldn't charge until 30 days is up. I only read a little of this thread, not all. So they really are charging? I've been super patient and very forgiving since Sunday. Heck, you could even say it didn't really bother me about the down times. Though, the charge is alittle annoying. I was sure I read everything to determine whether they'd charge immediately.

Oh, and just because someone only gets paid once a month, doesnt mean they are poor - let's get that *** straight for starters. I earn more than enough to pay for my XBOX live and This on top of it, aswell as my partners sub fee. Dirty principles is what it's about, not about how much is in my back acc at a certain day, which doesnt matter to them considering they are not keeping it.

All I see is QQ from people that have so little money they probably should be doing something other than playing MMOs.

All I see is someone who should probably not exercise their right to free speech on the internet.
  • VisceralMonkey
There is nothing wrong, zero, with requiring a credit card before you can play the game, even with 30 days of free game time.

There *is* something wrong with running test amounts of $15 through, I've never heard of this being done with any MMO I've played, it's simply weird and shouldn't have happened.

There can be several reasons not to keep money on your bank account (like bank account taxes, transaction taxes, etc. which are thriving in my country.) Since Zenimax hid this from us, I didn't know to leave any money on my account in this month.

And guess what: putting money on my account is also subject to tax. And it may not be too much for you, but for me, it is.

Wow just wow.. if i had known this i wouldnt have subbed for 6 months. People can say all they want that all games do this because they do not, not ONE online mmo ive played done this, ever! They've never withdrew the whole thing before the 30 days are gone and you start to actually subscribe. I love this game but starting to feel more and more like i dont want to play it. Customer service shows a lot how the game will end up and this isnt looking good...
My money isnt pending it is actually gone from my account

So basically, because I only have about $12 in my bank (I'm between paydays), I'm not going to be able to play the game I ALREADY PAID FOR until next week when I have enough to cover the authorization?

What kind of nonsense is this!?
And this folks, is what the rest of us have to do every week when buying groceries, paying for kid's activities, paying for our housing and vehicle loans, etc.

Planning out how we spend or intend on spending our money for the next 1-2 months is pretty standard. It prevents us from missing out on possible unknown expenditures, hidden costs, and accidents.

...and it's something that's taking a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to pound into my kid's thick skulls. :)

It will be given back, but they have just gone about it in a very dirty way. For some it goes back instantly, for others they get an overdraft fee and it isnt returned yet. It's different depending on your bank/payment system.

Hell some months I make 6 grand a month, but I tend to spend all of my money on the first. I budget what I'm making, and assign my funds on the first, that way all of my bills are paid, et cetera. So it's not about your income level, it's about planning for expenses, and putting money where I can't touch it for emergencies.

This has nothing to do with your poverty level, it's about being told that you're going to have x-amount of money dissappear for close to a week bceause although some banks clear a hold in 20 minutes, I bank with one of the biggest banks in the US and that hold won't leave my account until tonight at the very earliest, probably not until tuesday.

WOW! is all I can say to #3. I am disabled and on a fixed income. I only get enough money to cover bills and cover 1 game, my only entertainment expense. I cancelled my LOTRO sub for this game (something I regret now). I don't have cable or any extras like that because disability benefits are next to nill. You are saying I should just give up my one and only "extra" thing because Zenimax is doing something morally and legally wrong? They lied to people. They said they would not charge, but they do and have. You are saying that as a disabled, nearly bed ridden person, who only has 1 game to entertain them, doesn't have their "*** together" and should just sit here with nothing to do? Way to go on not understanding how life works in any way, shape, or form, and on putting down large sectors of the community.

I apologize. You are most certainly an exception to the rule. However #3 still stands. For the others not in such a rocky boat that you're in. If they have time to spend on a video game but don't have 15 bucks in their account then theres a serious issue there.

So if i dont have full sub amount on my card atm i lose my 30 "free" days starting from sunday? Are these people insane? My card should have been "validated" when i used it to buy the game.None of your bussines whether or not i will subscribe when 30 days is up,maybe i get bored after 10 days and never play again.

You don't technically lose it, it just won't start until you setup a subscription. Which isn't all that uncommon, what is is the fact that they're asking to pre-auth the entire amount to prove your card works, and not the standard $0.01 or $1.00 that most charge.

You keep your 30 free days, but they take your sub amount (you pick) out of your bank and then refund it, to ensure you are financially able to pay for the games sub fee.

In my case it isn't about the money, I've got enough left to pay for the next couple of years. It's the principle that worries me..

And the deafening silence even more.

I've defended this game in a lot of occasions, but even now I think they crossed a line by letting their customers down be it in the case of missing items, empty banks, and lying about the 2 days extra early access time..

    And now this payment fiasco..

I don't support bad practices neither should anyone.

Go ahead and read my original entire post. Yea that's right. I'm not defending Zenimax either.

I never asked whether you cared, nor do give a damn, haha. Point is: All my bills are paid in advance, my child is feed and the cupboards are fill, my rent is ahead. If anybody has problems, it's someone else, not me, haha. I am just annoyed that since I pre ordered a while ago, and they have only revealed this now - it is misleading and a dishonest way of doing business. It shouldnt matter if I have that money now, no other MMO charges the full sub for authorization.
For the most part I agree with you. But if you have a kid. You should probably have more than 15 bucks in your bank account. I heard they can be expensive. Just saying...

I'm sorry but your rule #3 does not stand at all. People have different outgoings and different things that they need/want to spend their money on. By making such a ridiculously broad generalisation you are just showing ignorance and nothing more.

Attacking people on low incomes is just rude for the sake of being rude. No amounts of smiley faces can cover that fact.

Ah stating my opinion is attacking now? You'd make a good politician. Also... If I was low income my priority would be eduction, better work, more work, or a combination. Not a video game to escape from the reality I let myself wallow in.

I wouldn't have apologized. It sounds like a whole lot of sensationalism. I mean first off, you get enough to cover 1 game as your entertainment activity? But how are you paying for the Internet access required to play the game? Is that one of the "bills" you have each month? What other non-essentials do you have in your "bills" group that you're hiding to make your point more poignant?

I mean yes, what they did with the charge seems different than other games have done in the past. I don't remember seeing more than a $1 dollar hold check. Or I don't remember an actual amount being taken from my available funds when a hold check was performed, except at higher amounts when doing airline reservations, hotel reservations, etc.

But using your story to make a point seems pretty crass when you look at everything you have in your "bills" section.
