So here's the thing - @code65536 is almost certainly on to something with the routing being the issue, and only some nodes being affected.

One thing you can do is try connecting via VPN and see if that helps things. If it does, then post about it on this thread. More data helps zos make better decisions. They're almost certainly having to rely on a third party (that may or may not be Akamai, tbh there's not enough conclusive data about that because every single user is routed through their DDoS protection but only a subset are having problems) and that third party may not be taking action. Depending on where in the routing it is, it may even be someone they don't have a direct contract with.

    Google search Akamai ESO.

You'll get issues going back all the way to 2018.

Also agree, its the routing. We have been saying that for a long time in this thread. That is why it's not server wide and only certain regions.
Will the real LadyGP please stand up.

I've been following this and related threads since they popped up. I'm aware people blame the DDoS protection for packet loss.

What I think is more likely is those specific nodes are actually being attacked when people begin having problems, hence the packet loss/latency/etc.

In which case using a VPN to route away from the DDoS congested node would remove the problem.

Seems like they’re keeping this thread up from May, so I’ll just drop the body of mine here:

Bad enough the game can’t be balanced respectfully, now it seems we can’t even play it.

    g1e86v78gf7q.png
    sc9ndxhumouv.png
I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, but a lot of us are starting to get fed up.

Now I’m not saying my opinion is more valid or important than anyone else, but when you have customers like me paying a premium price for your product…

    2baz64qwh4al.jpeg
Is it wrong to expect a premium product?

It was bad enough when Cyrodiil used to be the only place this happened, but now the servers are so horrible that it’s happening everywhere, even in solo content like my run of Infinite Archive.

Priorities need to change, if there is any expectation of this game lasting till it’s 20th Anniversary game performance needs to come first… and no I’m not talking about server maintenance, I’m talking about rearranging your budget for better servers.

Yeah wow, I mean I don't normally seem to have as many issues as some (though the lag has been consistently worse recently), but in the last week (since the PC patch), the game has moved into unplayable territory. Across all content, including just basic overland, everything on the screen freezes for a few seconds and if it's difficult content, I'm dead by the time it all catches up. The responses from zos so far are not encouraging. Honestly, I'm left with no choice but to cancel my sub and scale back my time with eso until there is a tangible plan to address this.

Since the last patch we had yesterday on PS, the lag has been SOO much worse. I was already having problems with random load screens periodically, but now, while trying to do pledges a few hours ago, didn't see enemies the group was fighting throughout the whole dungeon, my group mates were invisible MOST of the dungeon, and I had MULTIPLE random load screens throughout the whole dungeon..so bad that it happened like almost every 10 or so steps in CoA2...it has NEVER been this bad. I've had a bunch of guild mates saying the same things as well.

Thanks @LadyGP ! That gif shows exactly what I am experiencing playing ESO lately. Not sure what is the issue but hope ZOS can fix it soon. I am also experiencing audio lags constantly, not sure if that is also what you are experiencing.

I've had audio lag as well but mainly in cyro.
Audio lag is actually where the game seems the worst for me, which is kind of wild. I'm experiencing it even in dungeons and BGs when before it only happened during huge fights in Cyrodiil.

How much do you pay for this VPN, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m trying to figure out whether or not it’s even worth it to try spending money for a better experience with this game.

I do find it extremely odd that these issues started up in earnest again after the most recent patch maintenance. Coincidence, or…?

It is not worth the money we pay now, I am 10 years subbing and will never sub again. They would have to remake the game on a new engine to get me back.

I have been observing the sound lag for about a month now.
    What about freezing.
At the moment, a vpn through New York is helping me.
It doesn't help my friend, who is in my city, either.
She also has a specific problem that has manifested itself recently.
When passing vSE in two places on trash, her game crashes.
She can move and we can see it, but she says she can't cast ultimates and caltrops even after 2-4 seconds offline.
Although I can see how she attacks, but in the addon her damage hovered at one mark.

Oh, I don’t sub anymore. Not continuously, at any rate. I’ve done only three months of ESO+ so far this year, and likely won’t be purchasing another month anytime soon. I barely buy crowns these days as well — and I used to buy at least 1500-3000 per month in the past. I’m not handing over my hard-earned dollars on a game that doesn’t function properly.

So, the reason I prefer Mudfish is that it has a pay-per-traffic option, whereas virtually every other service is a monthly fee. Plus, it's designed specifically for gaming, so it will route the traffic for ESO and only ESO without touching my browsing, streaming, or anything else on my system.

Back in June 2023, I paid $3 for 30GB worth of traffic (their current price is $5 for 40GB). Over a year later, I still have 25GB remaining from that original purchase. So I've used up about 50 cents worth of traffic in over a year. I don't use it all the time, though; I use it only when I have connection stability issues, which works out to a few times each month, for 2-3 hours each time.

As I said, actual ESO game traffic is very, very light (don't update the game over the VPN, obviously), and all the monthly sub VPN services are basically rip-offs.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I haven’t felt any need to use a VPN up until now (you know, because other online services I use and games I play just … work without crippling performance issues?)

I was subbing in a group for Rockgrove last night and it might've been the worst night of performance I've ever seen.

We got hard-stuck Bahsei because people were disconnecting downstairs during the beam mechanic, people disconnecting somewhere in the arena so they get pulled into portal wiping the group downstairs, OT disconnecting holding multiple abominations, everything that could cause a wipe pretty much happened. This is a group that is close to Planesbreaker with multiple 30+ vitality clears.

Progs are suffering. I've been in multiple groups since this thread opened that are no longer running anymore or aren't running with any consistency because the performance has been so inconsistent. We'll have a day where most people aren't having many problems and the next day half the group disconnects and the other half of the group has 5+ second lag spikes.

Blackreach is suffering hard since the patch a few days ago with random like 10-second freezes -> kick to login or time-dilation as the game catches up. It's also affecting many people simultaneously not just random people sporadically.

crash #6. in an hour. try to do anything with friends you dont see often, and this is the performance. genuinely do not understand how this has not been #1 'oh dang buckaroos we gotta fix this' priority.
