The problem is that there was not ENOUGH beta testing. One of the smallest/shortest beta tests I've seen for a large scale MMO.

Really?! It felt like this thing was beta testing forever. I was getting invitations to test since last around the middle of last year...and I wasn't even trying to get into the beta..lol.

Just curious, for the people who are clearly so frustrated about the server downtime and the fact it's out of beta,

What do you suggest if a gamebreaking bug is found after the beta? If beta is supposed to fix EVERYTHING, have you ever written up a proof for a program?

The EU servers are still up so it probably isn't as bad as that. It's probably an exploit that someone found during beta and kept it to use now. It apparently hasn't affected the EU servers yet.

Why did I drink an entire redline before the servers went down, no sleep for this one.

Now that is worthy of complaint. It's like the nerd version of blue-balled.

    Also, your sig is awesome.

    You travel EAST.

Your party comes across a forboding wizard's tower to the EAST, bordering a dark and tangled forest to the NORTH. You think you see a path through the forest, but it looks pretty overgrown.

On the ground you notice a Shiny Emerald Amulet with a smiling face etched onto it's surface. The nearby Sheep looks coyly away.

Then you should know any suitably complex system _will_ behave in unexpected ways.

They aren't testing on their own machines and having it break on someone else's machines

I promise you no amount of beta testing would have fixed the MMO. This is the nature of Murphy's law.

Btw, there was a new dev posting in this thread indicating that they would post an ETA when possible: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/comment/509206.

I interpret this to mean that they currently have no clue how to fix whatever is the problem and either need more time to figure it out...or, need to wait on the person that DOES know how to fix it to wake up and come to work tomorrow.

It's pretty funny how they say the exact same thing every time they just change the words a little bit to make it seem different.

Never said you couldn't post your vent here. Just saying it's irrelevant.

And if you played other AAA mmo's, you paid 60. This isn't the first time it's happened to you. So I guess my question is...why do people start these threads? I'm asking that for real. Just why?

You act as though just because something has happened before that it makes it okay. If everyone you meet slaps you in the face when they meet you does that make it okay when I do it too?

The devs are monitoring this thread. The more people complain the more fire their bosses will put under their bottom. Ultimately we might get an exp boost or some sort of recompense. What's irrelevant and ironic is complaining about a complaint.

Or even complaining about a complainer complaining about a complaint.

The people you are referring to, who are complaining excessively, have no concept of what is actually going on. They don't understand programming. They just aren't getting what they want and are, as a result, throwing a fit. Your logic has no power over them.

Just because you're home and can play but servers is down isnt 'missing playtime'. What do you call it when youre at work or out shopping or just doing other stuff? Or when you do other things and and not able to play but servers is down while you're at work for example? Thats missing playtime as well but you wouldnt call it that then would you?

That is exactly what missing playtime is. And, yes if I am at work I call it the same. Semantic arguments are the weakest logically speaking.

So when youre at work you want some compensation for missing playtime??
No, that's on me. They're not responsible for it. They are responsible for bugs in their game and unreasonable downtimes during early access.

I am sure there are exploits and bugs which will have to be found and fixed post-beta.

The problem as I see it, is the fact that these were issues I posted months ago, not a couple weeks. I understand the way we all have our own instanced version of the world around us, thereby giving you a distinct 'Elder Scrolls' experience, meanwhile allowing me to have my own. However, it does present a problem, when I am on a quest, and my interactive objects are un-clickable, or an NPC is invisible, because the system doesn't realize that I should in fact be able to see and access them.

I reported countless bugs throughout the beta, I explained how to reproduce them, the NPC names, object names, quest names, screen shots, etc. I expected someone to do SOMETHING with that information.

Instead, I am experiencing the same inherent issues which plagued the beta.

When an end user reports a bug, I do something about it. I guess this is what makes our company different than the mass majority. I actually give a *** about our customers, and do everything I can to help resolve the issue.

In the end, I should have just gone to bed as soon as I heard there was down time at 1am EDT, instead of thinking it was only a minor issue, since there was no ETA given AT ALL. I checked the time span from the down time earlier today, and thought, "Hmm it only took them an hour, so I can wait it out." I was wrong.

"Also, it's unreasonable to expect a grown adult that actually works for a living to be available for all 60 of those hours."

    I didn't expect that.

It is however unreasonable to expect the uptimes to revolve around you, or the significantly smaller playerbase right now than at primetime. It would be a horrible business decision to bring servers down for long lenths of time between 11am-12pm on NA servers.

I'm not a game developer or programmer, but I have friends that do. I hear all the time how you'll have thousands and thousands of code to sift through to try and fix. And you can just rewrite a line, you then have to make sure that line is compatable with the other lines already in place. Sometimes things run fine then whatever can go wrong and the codes have to be sifted through, fixed, checked, fixed, checked, ect. Any programmers feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
