Floating Text/Chat Bubble addon?

Just stumbled upon a very interesting occurrence in game. When a player whispers you for the first time it has a little pop up bubble in the bottom right of the screen that tells you "you have a whisper from [account name]".

A friend of mine and I have been trying to recreate this in order to screen capture it. It literally looks like what a chat bubble should look like in ESO. But it appears to happen once per account player. So if a friend has previously whispered you it won't show up again if they get on another character or if you log out and back in. Which means it's a little tutorial bubble to alert you when a new account has contacted you.

Which ALSO means there is potential to add bubbles since this little pop up was just the right size, and opacity AND it faded away after being on the screen for a minute. PERFECT!

    Man it's such a tease.

[UPDATE] It looks like its a first time account thing. Just part of the tutorials. I had new players add me as friends to see if them whispering me would cause another alert to pop up and nothing happened.

Seriously the worst tease ever, got my hopes up.

If any of you are whisper virgins in game try to screen cap this! It happens pretty quickly so you need to have your screen fingers ready.

Did someone mention petition? I mean, creating a petition on one of those petition websites? :P

And subtitles, yeah :P Just gonna mention that again, subtitles are needed.

Haha yea, using one of those silly petition sites indeed. I'm polishing up a short and sweet one today. Figured I'd touch on the topics wanted and post links to threads like this that delve more deeply into the topic.

If any a petition will just give us a really good idea of the numbers that want this since polls are not very reliable and a large number of polls made on the beta forums have been lost, aside from a few that Jestahr collected screens of on imgur.

Figured it would be good to do since you only sign it if you want it, which limits the mass trolling we seem to encounter any time we bring up the topic.

Hahaha whoops, I went around to people that had posted /signed or had comments that were solidly for this and sent them messages.

I thought I was sending private messages to everyone, turns out I was just leaving comments on their profiles instead.

Terribly sorry about that! I'm not a bot I swear, haha. Just a very passionate gal that wants some change. ;)

Understandable. I was thinking about doing the same thing.

I would very much like these just as much as you.

Absolutely fine, I feel the same way...I keep checking every day hoping to see some announcement that chat bubbles/other rp-friendly features are on the way, or something. I hope they do hear us out soon because after these 30 days are up, I don't know if it'll be worth continuing to subscribe to the game.

I totally agree with those of you that don't think it's worth paying the sub if we can't get our full monies worth via roleplaying and interacting in general with other players.

The way I see it, without these options it's just a massively single player game and that sure is not worth $15 a month for. If any I may pay for a sub when they have decent content added as far as new areas to explore, but that's probably it if they don't want to make these quality of life changes.

It only hurts them in the long run... Well no, I take that back. It hurts us as well because I'm sure the large majority of you had a spot in your hearts for ESO to be amazing. It is still gorgeous, but looks don't outweigh the seclusion.

I'm a very heavy roleplayer. I don't really stick with a game unless I found a decent roleplaying community to be a part of. For games like this, though, it becomes absolutely vital to be able to distinguish who is speaking without having to look around and keep an eye on the chat window.

Either give us chat bubbles or adjust the API to allow addon developers to do so.

ZeniMax, remember that you're developing an MMO, not just a multiplayer Elder Scrolls. Please improve the social features as you're developing more content.

Oh man, by all means if you know a lot more people than I do and have seen more talk on this outside of the ESO forums then go throw around that petition like it's nobodies business!

I'm doing as much as I can, haha. I'm actually a pretty shy person which is why I think it's easier to message people that have been supporting the idea on other threads as opposed to making a thread just for the petition. I seriously can't handle trolls and negative people very well, it seriously makes my blood boil no matter how much I ignore them.

I do have an idea to make an image to draw players in that looks similar to a recruitment flyer you might see in game from one of the guilds. I just got to get around to doing it and get over my fear of failure. :p

I have it downloaded and I'm trying it out.

It's very primitive. The only real "issue" with it is that it doesn't hover over whoever's talking, but it's better than nothing. If you have it set to just the /say, /yell, and /tell channels it won't clutter up your screen.

Imo, this game is quite anti social at the moment. This comes down to a single player game, which I play for a couple of months max. if nothing changes.

I personally think /signing this thread will send Zmax a stronger message.
    • The change.org thing requires your name, address, and email address, which is going to deter a lot of people from voting, and underrepresent the demand for chat bubbles.
    • Zmax has no way of knowing who's voting on the change.org petition. The voices they care about are those invested in their game; change.org has no way to prevent people who don't play ESO from voting, so even if you do get a ton if support there, it might not hold much weight in Zmax's eyes.
    • /signing a forum petition will keep this thread bumped. Being in a forum that Zmax owns, they will see it.
    • With signatures coming straight from our forum accounts, one vote here is guaranteed to have come from someone invested in the game, and we can't just make 10 fake accounts to vote with, so numbers here will hold a LOT more weight.

I hate to totally knock the change.org thing, I just don't really see it helping, and I think we can all agree that what the focus should be on here is what gets results.

That said, the change.org thing won't *hurt*, so I'd say leave it in the OP; but put a strong emphasis in the OP for readers to make an actual post here voicing their support.

And link this thread everywhere! Post a link in your guild forums, message of the day, your forum signature here... hell, zone chat (don't be obnoxious with it, or you'll just get your name added to ignore lists). When you RP, tell your fellow RPers about this thread. Get the word out.

    The OP,
I'd change the thread title to something like "Petition to include speech bubbles to ESO!" as the focus is no longer on an addon.

Do you think changing the title of this thread would be alright, considering it's in an add on request forum? Well then again they don't really have a suggestions forum either.

You do have a point with the petition, I didn't make it in hopes it would sway the devs but rather collect a lot of people together so numbers can be seen.

When the betas were going on there were a ton of very beneficial and constructive threads started relating to chat bubbles and better social add ons that all got lost in the wipe. I hope this isn't the case but I have a feeling a lot of the people that devoted their time in those threads might have lost interest in ESO, maybe decided not to purchase it at all or right away. I'm really not sure but the numbers that were for it were much more substantial in the beta forum than they are right now.

Just an observation. We can't let this die, these are very crucial things any successful mmo needs!

On a side note, I must say I do love how mature everyone has been in this thread! There has been awesome constructive feedback going on. That's so nice to see when all the other threads around us are flooded with negativity on the matter.

If you are active on other roleplay sites I totally think it's an awesome idea to link to this original thread to spread the word. We have so many outlets going aside from the petition. We can still do /feedback in game. Or I have even been reporting the chat box as a design flaw that needs to be addressed. Along with keeping this thread alive so all can see!

I just hope the Devs that are active on the forums gives this a really good read. I saw on the tracker that one of them acknowledged a thread on name plates a few days ago, so they need to check us out!

Sign all the things! Leave all the /feeds in game! The louder the better!

Oh yea, almost forgot. The change.org can kinda pull in more people that haven't bought the game because of these reasons so it's potential customers signing it, you could say.

There are probably more people that haven't bought the game yet due to how rusty they are during the first few months, I recall a lot of beta testers saying they won't buy it after the beta because it felt like it had some unfinished qualities to it that may smooth over after a while. These said people may not be on these forums but out someplace else so spreading around any means we have is better than nothing at all.

    ;)

Knocking on things isn't bad if we are being mature about it. You brought up very valid points I derped on.
