I wonder how many people that were not beta testers or part of early access that are buying the physical copies are also role players that desire these essentials?

I know a lot of people in my community that don't want to buy a copy just because they have seen play or heard about the lack of a role play friendly interface. That's a huge thing if a lot of players that want that are holding off on buying a copy until something is implemented.

Five pages and counting in general support of chat bubbles -- can we get a hint across?

You know the craziest part? UO (1997) used overhead chat (it wasn't in bubbles, but it was over the head of the speaker), SWG (2003) used an impressive list of chat bubbles in a wide range of styles (say, shout, think, sing, whisper, etc all had their own styles of bubbles)... Umm... what the?!?! And SWG still had/allowed the current "standard" chat window as well.

So 17 years ago this was not only possible but was actually done and now it's not even on the table. *sigh*

And honestly I can see the argument against nameplates as it makes PvP more interesting and genuine I think. But chat bubbles? I literally cannot come up with any reason NOT to implement them as an option.

All this said, I also remember back in WoW that it took quite a while to get them there too. It wasn't until just before Burning Crusade came out IIRC.

I support also this idea, game would be much better as a whole with chat bubbles.

I agree. It would make our lives as gamers a lot more easier if we could actually see what people are saying. Instead of sitting there and looking stupid, feeling idiotic for missing what people say. It's just. Something that needs to be implemented in my opinion. - If there was one chat bubble that popped up and everyone stopped to see what was said, we'd have a lot less people running into an area that needs to be reset if the boss is already dead. I've tried spamming the yell feature to get people's attention but even that don't work. If they don't read, they don't pay attention. So something to get people's attention would be nice!
Life hangs in the balance of all living things. Cause I'm a Bosmer with a whole lotta *** to offer!

I was able to get in contact with an ESO support team member, and got this reply:
We currently don't know when or if they will be implemented into the game. Cross your fingers that they do soon I know I am.

So, even though we don't know if/when they'll be implemented, at least there's a demand for it even with the ESO support team! I just hope that Zenimax is at least aware of the demand...

That is awesome news even if it is a maybe. It's amazing that the support team has a few people that agree on the matter. I was honestly wondering if anyone that works for ESO shared our opinions on this, or if maybe they can't voice an opinion against the matter?

Regardless, it's still a shimmer of hope that we all need!

I also noticed when you look for chat or roleplay in the knowledge base it now says " Currently, there are no plans to support chat bubbles." I'm pretty sure in the beta it was "We do not have plans to support chat bubbles."

    Maybe that's something too?
  • benstuartyoungs_ESO
Well I'll chime in as well.
I'm utterly confused by the presentation to be honest.
It's impossible to find guildmates without their name or guild name floating above the character's head. To me, an MMO simply NEEDS this. ESO isn't a single player. It's an MMO. If you want immersion, simply have the option to turn off floaty names
I can live without chat bubbles but please for the love of Akitosh add floaty names!

I really believe this game needs chat bubbles. I feel like I'm all alone. I see people chatting in the chat window, but I have no idea when I'm walking around who is saying it in my area. It just really makes the feeling of me playing with other players sorta disappear

I always turn them off in every game I play.

Nothing more annoying to me than sitting in a crowded city and being unable to see a damned thing because of the huge amount of chat bubbles around.

When WoW added them, it was the first thing I turned *off*.

This thread is clearly not for nay sayers, if you don't like an 'Optional' thing, then turn it off. It's optional, there are far more of us that want it as opposed to one player like you that's just out to troll productive discussions.

It just makes you all look bad when you come on to give your unwanted opinion on a feature you can simply turn off.

Now please, go waste posts on some other thread, I'm sure there are plenty of nonsensical ones around for you to do so.

When WoW added them, it was the first thing I turned *off*.

the key part of that sentence there.

Turned off. Implying it was optional. Meaning it was something that didnt really bother you since you had the option to turn it off.

Which all the people thats against this doesnt realize they are against this for no real reason.

We want this as a toogle option, this way everyon's happy, those who wants it get it, those who despise it won't get it by turning it off' !
Would also be cool to have names on top of characters as a toogleable option, since many many characters look the same.

I also would like the option to have chatbubbles ingame! In addition with an option to disable them if someone doesn't like them :)
  • merwanoreb17_ESO
Chat Bubbles is a must for true and fluid communication, this is one of my most wanted features for this game. I really don't get why so many devs never add this feature. If it is an issue with performance, then just make it optional.

Chat bubbles is essential for good role playing, so I really hope they add this feature to the game.

Those who are opposed to chat bubbles all seem to have the same kind of argument:

    1) they'll post the same screenshot of Ragnarok Online with gold sellers spamming the zone chat bubbles, say something along the lines of, 'Is this what you want ESO to look like?' 2) proceed to tell us that we don't need chat bubbles to roleplay (even though they're NOT ROLEPLAYERS AND WOULDN'T KNOW), and 3) blatantly disregard the plea for optional chat bubbles.

If you could toggle on/off chat bubbles for each type of chat (/say, /zone, /party, /guild, etc.), then you could customize your chat to be the way you want it to be, toggling on the chat bubbles that know won't be flooded with spammers, and toggling off the ones that you know would be. And that's it, everyone would be so happy, and the roleplaying community would be able to get their money's worth.

PLEASE ADD CHAT BUBBLES! I'm begging you! I love the game, but I'm a big roleplayer and I really need those for proper roleplaying.

BESIDE THAT! There a many people with eye-sight problems which RELY strongly on some sort of visual feedback. Even I have difficulties to catch up with the chatbox. Now imagine someone with really heavy eye-sight issiues. They could change the font size and color.

Just add them. Please :( I really want to play the game, but it doesn't feel like an MMO without chatbubbles. Sorry to say that but ESO is somewhat a online singleplayer game...

    Please add them :(

I LOVE the style! They look amazing! Dear developers: Have a look at those wonderful chatbubbles. Add those into the game and I promise to recommend the game to everyone I know :)

    P.S. I'm sorry if I made some mistakes. It's been a while since I wrote english ;)

I love those chat bubbles in that pic.
The game HAD Nameplates and Chat bubbles from what I understand.
But Zenimax Devs for some stupid reason decided to remove them.

As for the fix till we get chat bubbles. I changed the size of the chat text and the color of say to bright green.

Hopefully Zenimax gives chat bubbles like that pic.

Sometimes NPCs are talking and you cant find them. Chat bubbles would help that.

Not only is it hard to hear npcs and to find them. But how do you think players feel that are hearing impaired and can't hear when an anchor is being summoned or when a mage is taunting your character telepathically to remind you of the quest you have open?

There have also been countless times when I have been a great distance away from an npcs and can somehow hear what they are saying but I have no idea where it's coming from until the arrow appears above my hud showing me a new quest or progression. Same goes for npcs that whisper to get your attention.

It's a major flaw that players that need these options don't have currently.

While it would help the hearing impaired, your examples doesnt quite make sense as none of these would cause a helpful chat bubble. Especially on the anchor, you're probably not going to be anywhere near it when it pop in order to "hear" the characters talk. The current design of them talking telephatically I would consider to be a sound bug, lol.

I must admit I am deeply hurt, crushed by these issues. I have longed to roleplay in this universe ever since I played Morrowind. I can't fathom why they made such a terrible choice to launch without these features.

They did have nameplates a few Betas prior to release but never explained why they got rid of them in later betas. It's just bizarre.

As it is currently, I want to support ESO because it is a beautiful game but I can't bring myself to pay for a subscription if this is still a problem after the 30 days are up. It depresses me that I was so excited for this game and the lack of features that can make it role play friendly and socially immersive have crushed my enthusiasm.

Not only that, but I have numerous friends that have decided not to purchase ESO with this being one of their reasons.

    Please hear us out!

I'm so happy to see this thread really picking up, you are all AMAZING!

Haha, if any it was an argument for subtitles as well. But this has been an issue I have noticed in a town and city where it could be a sound bug, but the npcs talking to you or amongst themselves a good distance from your character sound like they are talking right next to you. When it turns out they are standing against a wall or shrub or in a crowd a good jog away.

Same goes for the gossip around town. How can players know there's gossip about a quest they are doing or could do from overhearing the npcs? I have found myself running around like an idiot just to find who was talking or turning my camera around to see if I can spot an npc moving their mouth.

You can see pretty far from your character in the game. So when an anchor is being summoned and the dialog sounds like it's right next to you but the npcs are over a hill you can see once the anchor is already summoned. A little blip of a chat bubble showing up or the dialog appearing in the chat box would let players that can't hear know what's going on around them. Or if they are right by a summons, there isn't any form of subtitle, chat box indication or chat bubble appearing to show them it's being done.

Sorry, that was my arguement. For floating text or sub titles. I had just woken up so I wasn't fully operational. The chat bubbles, subtitles, floating text are all pretty hand in hand with each other. They make the world feel more alive by adding a social aspect you can see from players and npcs alike. So a town will look more alive not just from npcs having bubbles appear that help the hearing impaired, but the commotion a group of roleplayers can be having near by, as well. Even if you can hear just fine, it helps to see where it's coming from.

While I will never support an idea that tries to make this game like another MMO,
I DO agree with chat bubbles... it would be wonderful to see that someone right next to you is trying to ask you to move, or makes a comment to you.

Right now with the existing method of zone chat, it's very confusing and hard to distinguish between near and far people talking.
