When someone in life do you a surprise, would you want to know about it so you can prepare yourself ? NO!!

Surprise means surprise, not established meeting. There will be days were i will miss them and days i will be there. Its the surprise!!

Why do you want to put everything on knowned schedule ? And then .... you will want again more because this day do not fit in your agenda ? or you are in the wrong area ? or you will have an appointment with someone and cant be there ?

Come on, go on surprise me Gina!! i love surprises

I think one important thing is that the surprise event, like this Explorers Event, not feature items you can't get if you miss out. The XP and gold is nice, but you can get XP and gold outside this event. At a slower pace, but you will get it. I would not want surprise events that feature style pages or pets or skins or other things that can only be obtained during event.

This. But also. Doing that right after a release seems like a bad idea because there are always issues. I actually kind of feel like I missed out on this one because I couldn't even do writs on multiple characters as I kept getting kicked out.

Bonus XP weekends when things are stable I guess are ok. I know I sound like a stick in the mud (surprises are supposed to be fun) but it's not fun if you miss out, especially due to performance.

Since this is yes/no only poll and any surprise event with unique rewards seems like a bad idea I have to vote no.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

I like having the Event Calendar for the "big" events that have tickets.

For smaller events like this one, I'd like some notice ahead of time. Like, when the Devs decide "Hey, we should do an Explorers Event," maybe the community team can drop a News bit in the Launcher telling the players to look for the event in a couple of days.

I don't like the sort of "surprise" where we find out about the event when it goes Live, which is what happened this time.

It occurs to me that the reason it's great for me is that I'm retired, always home (except for shopping, dr appts, truck fixes, lunch with kids, etc) and when home always logged into the game for hours every day. So I don't miss things like a surprise event announce like this one.

And that means my answer was pretty biased. There are a few of us on the forum who are retired, or even just work from home and have time to dip into the game - but it's quite likely not a majority, not even close.

I can't change my vote (and that would be silly anyway) - though I do understand that my particular vote should maybe not be given much weight since I'm pretty much an outlier....

For the explorer event, I don't mind the surprise. For events involving tickets that we know are coming some time that month, I don't see any reason to wait until the last week of the month to announce the Jeste... that event. I'd prefer to have as much time as possible to plan ahead.

    Hi All,

Now that we are over the 24 hour mark for the surprise Explorer's Celebration being live, we wanted to follow up and ask for your thoughts on surprise events in-general. Do you like having surprise in-game events?

We've seen some chatter around this already and wanted to make a formal call for feedback. This will help for future consideration when planning potential surprise in-game events for the playerbase. Also please feel free to leave any comments explaining your choice. Thanks so much.

I'd much prefer a heads up, this week i am really busy with RL stuff so i am missing out on the explorers event sadly :/ if i knew about it in advance i would of had time to plan out sometime for it.

I don’t see this as a surprise event. It’s just some extra experience and materials....

Imo, a surprise event can be very interesting but it needs to be something like a powerful boss spawn. Imagine a powerful Dragon spawning at Alessia Keep lol. And whoever participated gets a rare new item or runebox.

That sort of thing would be awesome imo.

I find surprise events to be a treat and appreciate when they come around.

I never alter my plans around them as I like to engage with them if I've the time and don't feel pressured to complete an objective within a timeframe. That being said I do like them to be the double XP, double gold, double farm node affairs that they are without tying any sort of limited collectible around them. I would like to see double AP and double telvar thrown in to the mix as well.

No thanks. As others have said earlier, it does give a weird aire of trying to distract from a heated situation. Like when the perfectionist wife comes in with a tray of margueritas trying to distract from the argument in the room.

It would be great if it did not come at the cost, every time there is an event servers perform pretty poorly and Trials are lagging and de-syncing.

Maybe a little more of a heads up, something like at least 2 days ahead but for a small no ticket event like this to be treated like a “surprise” is perfectly okay

I do enjoy them! It keeps things fresh and exciting. As long as the surprise events pertain to extra experience, loot, increased gear drops, antiquity drops etc…Event ticket related events should always have advance notice so players can plan accordingly.

I love events. Surprise events ... not so much.

The question asked above is like if our employer asked us if we would like getting surprise free pizza now and then. It's definitely yes on the pizza. Who doesn't like free pizza, right? But if there was company wide mail week prior hyping us for "free pizza next thursday" maybe I could make sure to not be running random errands that day or at least not pack extra large home-made lunch to the office.

Had there been any heads-up about event coming, wouldn't have planed so much stuff to do on the weekend and in following week. Now the surprise event is bit annoying instead of exciting, since I'll be missing out big time.

Well normally I love nice surprises, so I voted yes.

Unfortunately this one made the server issues I was already having since the last update, worse, so I can only play when the server is not too busy. I am not too happy about that.

No to this surprise event. The game performance is absolute garbage. Do not need more people on until you get the performance since the last patch fixed.

I like this analogy. Free pizza is great, but not so much if I've already packed a lunch and am finding out about the pizza at lunchtime that day.

The question is a difficult one to answer as events ideally should be good things. The surprise part is what I focused on with my answer, though others will instead focus on the event itself. There is no wrong answer, but different people are seeing the same question, but answering different parts of that same question.

In general I like having at least a little advance notice so I can run any RL errands beforehand, empty inventory space, that sort of thing. Bigger events would ideally have more advance notice than smaller ones; for example, knowing the Whitestrake’s Mayhem was coming let me stock up on Cyrodiil Citrus and by extension throw cake at groupmates and people in zone chat. That comes from dailies, and I wouldn’t have been able to do much if I’d only found out about the day before. For a more minor event like the Explorer’s Event, a day or so would suffice; in this case I just wanted to shuffle my Master Writs onto my main.
