It has annoyed many of the players who pay for ESO+ AND have payed for the latest expansion (rather than waiting for the content to be added to ESO+ next year).
It would have made sense for ESO+ members to get some free crowns instead.
ESO Plus members get a ton of benefits just from subscribing. A no-Crown-cost something every month and discounts beyond that in the Crown Store. Crowns for each month subscribed. DLC while subscribed. It may be a false hope, but my expectation is that the bulk of the ESO Plus players don't even care.
My personal view is that anyone who is so outraged about this that they cancel their ESO Plus was not going to stick around for long, anyway. I mean, when people total everything up, and that adds up to a justification for ESO Plus, then it must be very close to the line if this tips the scales.
This is why I think that the bulk of ESO Plus subscribers don't care enough about this to make an issue over it. There can't be that many people sitting right on the fence.
Honestly, the only thing worth the sub are the combination of housing limits, bank space, crafting bags, and dlc access. The crown discounts are not frequent nor useful enough to matter all that much and the free collectable is a joke of a token.
HonestlyLady_Galadhiel wrote: »I miss the days where we killed dragons for charity to save kitties, now THAT was a great reward and something so many people where happy to participate and no one cared for the in game rewards we got at the end.
You know, I can honestly say that was one event where I didn't care about the rewards I personally received, because it was for a good cause.
But there isn't a good cause behind this one as it's an effort to increase blackwood sales to people that don't own it, yet. It only benefits ZOS and a portion of the community. So I DO care about the rewards the send to us this time round, and I personally find them lacking. It's OK though because I won't be spending my time on the event and I won't be buying more copies of Blackwood as a result, nor will I be gifting the dlc to some friends who don't sub, thus saving me some crown purchases. And the rest of yall will get my rewards from the event for me.
So there, I guess I found my reward that work for me, ZOS saved me several hundred dollars of purchases that I might have sent there way.
And you get the new dlc! But you should start hitting up those striking locales to make sure.

They're probably the same ones who call into customer service every time there was a free HBO trial on cable and they had the channel.
Some people just feel entitled to "all the things" and get bothered if somebody else gets something they feel they're entitled to. Even if this doesn't take away anything from them.
Guess what... we're still getting the pet, the attunables, and whatever other stuff they're giving away during the event.... and everybody ALSO gets the Deadlands DLC if we reach 100%. Some would have already had access to it through ESO+, but now everybody can enjoy the end of the story this year.

Where are you getting all of this "hype"?

Good examples of what else it could have been , but I doubt any of those would have pleased the hyped majority.
Character slots ? Some people would correctly say it's just another trick to get us playing more and we have already more than enough of those (18!!!)
Tokens ? If have a couple of those lying around unused, no use for that.
Non profit ? I won't engage in such a debate here, but it's tricky to link a pure commercial/useless/fun activity to an essential, important one. And then, the choice of the charity also matters. I was happy to slay dragons for kittens but... also uncomfortable because, frankly, it's much more important to help humanbeings than kittens. (please don't start the debate, it's not the point : all I'm saying is that a charity is not something that makes everyone automatically engaged and feeling good).

I have not seen a single post saying that a person doesn't think the DLC should be given away, not one.
1) I am not entitled, I saw the advertising hype and was keen to see the prize. The prize was underwhelming for many of us.
2) I am more than happy that other people will get the DLC for free and am still participating in the event.
3) The DLC giveaway is a CHEAP prize, compare how many Crowns a DLC costs to a house/mount/polymorph, ZoS aren't exactly lavishing riches upon non ESO+ members.
4) IT IS NOT FREE you have to BUY Blackwood to get it, now if you were going to buy Blackwood anyway, great! And ofc, Blackwood is on sale, but you still HAVE to make a purchase to access the DLC.
5) If they hadn't hyped this up so much it likely wouldn't have been an issue (yeah some would complain, but then some always do).
6) I don't get any of the ESO+ perks for free, I PAY for those, so what do these comments mean that we want more 'free' stuff on top of the 'free' stuff we already get?
7) Megalithic corporations are not your friend, they don't do anything out of the kindess of their hearts, this was just a campaign to sell more copies of Blackwood, which is fine ofc they're a business, but the marketing and hype backfired imo.
They should've just given the damn DLC away to EVERYONE and not made it seem like some massive and wonderful benevolence on their part. The charity event was much more fun and engaging, it felt worthwhile, whether you liked the rewards or not, should've done that again imo.
Where are you getting all of this "hype"? The first time I heard any of this was an announcement in the launcher carousel that said something like "find out out how to get the Deadlands DLC free".
I mean I assume that the event was announced ahead of that, but they weren't exactly putting it on billboards and buses.

Don't you get the armory assistant automatically with the Deadlands DLC ? I think it's included in the "free DLC" , then.
In case I'm wrong (I'm not into PTS stuff as much as I used to be) and the assistant is crown-store thing, then you may be right BUT that would only appeal (NOW) to people who've heard of it, who are into news and PTS stuff. That's a tiny minority.
I agree it would have been a good idea though - for us as well as for ZOS, marketing-wise.

That's very true too. I wouldn't not describe the communication and advertisement about it as "hype", it wasn't that much. Those who were all "hyped" were the ones willing to be "hyped".
I remember a couple of years ago there was a "one million.... " whatever thing going on to celebrate whatever.
And there was a very much hyped lottery out of which one player actually won one million dollars.
Which was what actually happened.
That was real hype and noone ever complained that only one person got the prize, let alone call it "discrimination" !!!

There is no way they won't move the bar to 100%. I am pretty sure it isn't even tracked in game, just something they manually move it forward a bit each day just like last time. Or maybe the "tracker" app is simply programmed to move ahead on it's own.

I recall, in that particular case, the complaint was more along the lines of "so Bethesda blew the whole ESO marketing budget on this one thing".Probably not true, but it certainly felt that way at the time.

I am pretty sure it is tracked. They have a bus load of analysts that apparently provide whatever statistic they need from the data generated by the live game. It is inconceivable that they are not tracking Blackwood Pathfinder.
Less sure that the bar moves in concert with that track.

The Armory is part of the base game update. The station will be free for all players in the crown store. The assistant will be for purchase in the crown store.
It is not dependent upon or included with access to the Deadlands DLC.

I do own every chapter, and paid for every DLC with Gold. Now I don't have to spend another 150k gold.
Sub is renting - Buying it is owning.
When the servers go dark and the game ends, renting or owning becomes irrelevant.

It was a fomo marketing tactic aimed right at the players who thought Blackwood looked mediocre and didn't want to spend money on the 180 minutes of 'meh' content it offered. I'm more surprised at how many long-time players here seem to be surprised by it at all, haven't we seen this kind of stuff enough in 7 years?
PS - Deadlands on the PTS is almost as interesting as Blackwood..
almost.

Giving a 5 year ESO Plus subscriber a "free" dlc is a slap in the face, I'm really insulted by this.

I wonder if those complaining about bad rewards still feel letdown, I don't know about others but I thought the final reward was awesome.
It's a nice gesture but I've been saying for years that chapters should be treated like season passes so this should be standard as a way to maintain community engagement with the game Guild Wars 2-style. The game is monetized enough without selling dungeons and zone DLCs on top of the chapters releasing annually._adhyffbjjjf12 wrote: »I wonder if those complaining about bad rewards still feel letdown, I don't know about others but I thought the final reward was awesome.
