Dear Community/Followers,

I want to address recent concerns regarding allegations of inappropriate direct messages and supposed cheating. First and foremost, I want to clarify that I do not admit to any wrongdoing. However, I understand that my actions may have been perceived in a way that caused concern.

As many of you know, I am a disabled veteran who served in Iraq, and I am permanently and totally mentally disabled. My PTSD, which was formally diagnosed in 2013 after being reclassified in the DSM-5, has affected me in ways that are difficult to fully explain. While this is not an excuse, it has, at times, clouded my judgment and impacted my behavior. This condition is something I have lived with for a long time, and it is a daily challenge.

As an influencer, streamer, and game reviewer with over 300 reviews, 800 followers on Twitch, and 1,600 followers on TikTok, I understand the responsibility that comes with my platform. Our role as influencers is to set a positive example, and I want to make it clear that I do not condone actions that go against the Terms of Service (TOS) or End User License Agreements (EULA) of any platform or community. Even though societal norms have evolved, and what was once deemed acceptable behavior in the past is no longer appropriate, I am committed to adapting and ensuring that my actions reflect the values we strive for today.

I want to go forward with a commitment to better representing the disabled members of our community. I recognize that I may never fully "fit in" or be "normal," but I am dedicated to improving and learning from these experiences. It is crucial that we have more flexibility and better support services for disabled veterans like myself, so we can remain active members of our communities without being unfairly limited by our disabilities. These services would help ensure that we can make better decisions and avoid situations like this in the future.

Thank you for your understanding, and I am grateful for the continued support of this community as I work to become a better version of myself.

Sincerely,
theshockcable

No thanks. I cannot say anything about Battle Eye, but I played several games, that used Easy Anti Cheat. It created problems with logging into game for every player, bots were still there, and many people complained, that was extremely invasive, keylogging way more than nessesary.

    ESO's servers calculate values.
It does not monitor attached processes that these other software do.
With any cheat program running correctly you have to attach it to your game.
Battle Eye or Easy Anti-Cheat , scans for these types of processes.

    Like I said,
a speed hack or lag switch the server is not going to catch,
unless it's so extreme to trigger the server settings. Then you're booted.

As far as values are concerned ESO uses the skyrim engine and all the values are actually stored on your pc,
which are then checked on the server. Yet they have to adjust calculations of adverse values which is not like having a cheat software that actually detects an unauthorized value change. Yet they have done a good job in catching these types of value changing cheats.

Doubt this post is about pvp as there is nothing competitive about it nor any cheats that give an advantage.

Sounds like a trial/arena issue that allow people to weave assist or import 3d models to avoid dmg zones.

Is this a solution in search of a problem?

I have only ever seen two people cheat in all my time playing, one was the dude firing fireballs from the sky in Grahtwood/ Auridon. I think he got banned within the hour.

For the problems ESO does have I don't think the amount of cheaters is one of them.

You say you play ESO competitively and do not have a fair playing field, where have you encountered cheaters?

I have heard of people occasionally seeing people with speed hacks in Cyrodiil. But they are very rare and I would doubt it would ruin your competitive experience.

If you're talking about PvE then I am quite confident I have never seen anyone use hacks to clear content. Especially trials. I am sure it has been done before. But it is by no means a common thing. There has never been a suggestion that any high scores in trials were achieved by using hacks.

That "extreme" in Speed hacks or macros or whatever can't be that extreme before the server catches it. I am pretty sure especially in PvP some players managed to get bootet for "to many messages at once" even without hacks or macros (myself included), because some people are just that fast and good in weaving.
And to create lags you don't need a switch. Just play in a Ballgroup with 5 million different AoEs and healing spells.

You get booted AND character locked quite fast (took me less than 10 minutes of continually breaking the current speedcap of 200% to get one of my chars designed to test the limits in speed to get locked out of playing).

On top of that, macros only hinder gameplay tbh. Because of the no cooldown but only global cooldown system, it's designed to basically force players to adapt on the fly (in pvp at least.) this means macros just lock you in a certain rotation.

For PvE you might have automatic rotation macros, but even those are limited to the global cooldown. And its frankly not hard to press a few buttons every 0.8 sec.

Other than that, as mentioned above there's SO much calculated by the server side..
There has been cheats in the past, and there will be cheats in the future. but its so rare and usually detected extremely fast.

I believe ESO originally used the Hero Engine to initially develop the game, then built their own engine from the ground up specifically for ESO, which is what the current version of the game is built upon.

Skyrim uses Bethesda's Creation Engine, which is a completely different game engine than Hero or the one ESO actually uses right now. Just thought I would fix your mistake.

Yet, another such glorious cheating thread.

The proper way to prevent cheating is doing stuff on the server. It does not matter what your client does when the server is verifying the values provided by the client.

I even doubt you have personally seen a single cheater yourself in game. Most claims are in general trash and the people that are making such claims are always refusing to show any evidence. "Oh i got killed, that's not possible!!!! It must be a cheater!!!!".

Report them and let the ZOS employees do their work. Simple as that. No need for such threads here, except in cases you actually provide evidence or ask how something (and something should be visible in a video / screenshot) is possible.

Adding Anti-Cheat Software will only lead to the following things:
    - You will realize that you still believe there are cheaters, while they don't cheat.
    - Anti-Cheat software will cost you performance
    - Anti-Cheat software is intrusive af
    - Developers will mess up their Anti-Cheat software increasing the attack surface of your PC
    - Developers mess up Anti-Cheat software integration which will likely make your system less secure (things running as administrator (which will be required for certain parts). you don't want to run such trash with high privileges).

There is no benefit in this. Only downsides. So... no, thank you.

Rather than just shooting an idea down , what anti- cheat system do you recommend ?

    Console ?

There are no working PC client side anti-cheat systems. You can't make them and in fact it's getting rapidly harder to make them because there's basically no difference between an "anticheat" system, spyware and malware to the underlying operating system security model.

You can put all the real game server side (as some games now do) and treat the user as a remote GUI, and you can put all the client code in a totally controlled environment like a console. Even then it's easy to make remote control or control assist devices that cannot be told from a real device, and increasingly easy to use AI + camera assists.

There's another issue as well - anti cheat systems on client are notoriously unreliable and forever banning people in error. In a game environment where you can turn around angry banned users in a hour or two it's merely upsetting people. In the ESO world where people regularly can't get bogus bans undone in 14 days (and then promptly get wrongly rebanned) it would be a farce.

The final complication of course is that control assists and AI/camera assists are for some players 'accessibility' so if you block them in that form you get sued for it too.

If you want a no-cheat PC environment then ESO needs to have a Stadia only instance.

While I support anti cheat in all games, and try to avoid those who do not use them, but god save us from easy anticheat introduced in eso. While I had no bad experience on my own skin with them, in another game called albion online, there were a *** of bans of players by the company. Players were banned in large numbers in a very short amount of time. The game developers then sent all the angry players to the anti cheat developer. So players needed to contact a third party company to getting their account unbanned.

Considering that eso is a mod-able software which uses a lot of addons it means two things I think: First, it's easier to cheat. Second, more chance for innocent players geting banned for using *** addons.

I find it extremely bad and troublesome for an online game to allow modding. Developers should upgrade the game with all the neccesary elements considering user interface and graphical design, so addons should not be needed.

ESO addons are actually very strongly sandboxed - but as other games have proved anti-cheat doesn't work full stop. It's not supposed to be possible to write a cheat tool as an ESO addon and the sandboxing and protection also unfortunately blocks a lot of other useful things like screen reader support and automating some areas of the control system to work around the lack of accessibiltiy in game.

In fact if your add on tries to do something too dumb or server loading you get kicked.

Well, I am far from being an expert on this, I am a salesman not an IT guy. But even if addons not able to work as cheats, I wonder if they can be created to work as a false alarm and trigger the anti cheat software to ban the user. There are a lot of malicious softwares with goals of only destruction and harm, not to directly gain advantage or scam money, just to harm the user.

Imagine a hacker or developer who just wants to cause harm to the game, he just uploads this addon, a lot of players start using it and then boom: permanent ban.

Addons for eso can only interact in a way which the api allows. ZOS expose to the client only what they want to allow addons to interact with. If such hooks prove problematic, they revise or remove them as has happened in the past. The only "harm" an addon developer could do to the game would be degraded player experience in the client which is remedied by simply disabling it. ESOUI are also very good at moderating what they host; complaints about such an addon will result in them removing it from their site and making it unavailable.

Have you noticed cheating to be prevalent in-game? Have you noticed players not being banned for cheating?

I get accused of cheating and even sometimes reported about once a month in PvP. Some people think light attack weaving and lining up burst build is a "macro" ... So I'm suspicious when people talk about cheating without specifics.

But to be fair, I'm not someone who PvPs for like 5+ hours a week, so maybe I'm legit just not seeing it.
