If you want to group with other players, just group with other players and leave those who want NPC companions alone. Well, not alone anymore, but you get it.
But wait...
"Develop a relationship?" Relationship?
Why the heck the reveal stream if so far away! By Mora's slimy tentacles, I crave knowledge!

My god people ask more ways for player expression and characterization - they might actually get it with a companion they can talk with and now people hate the idea.
never satisfied with anything

It's almost like different people want different things from the game.
I mean, I'm not really excited about the idea. Maybe if we could have a total of 2 or 3 combat companions, and we could get a real party feel, but I need to know more before I commit. (And, that could be the point, this could be the, "here's three NPCs who will run dungeons with you,") in which case, cool for someone, I guess.

People complain new classes and skills are broken or OP then complain when we don’t get them. People complain skill lines are grindy then complain when we don’t get them.
I love this community, but damn! Some people will just *** about anything and everything!
Barely anyone complained about the things in the other expansions being added in general though.
People just complained that they were implemented pretty badly, thats an entirely different thing.
It just isnt nice if a new class outperforms all the other classes just because it is a new class and needs some incentive for people to buy it, they could just have tried to get a proper balancing between classes in general.
Also they could have implemented Psijic Order and Antiquities in a way that would not just make them a pure grind that is definitely going to be boring the second time you do it, if its not even boring the first time already.
And if those companions are the only thing coming with the next one then yea im going to be quite dissapointed, because they will add literally nothing to my gameplay, so i can definitely see why people dont like it.
Well first things first, we can’t be too disappointed about anything unless you’re a Skingrad person disappointed it’s Leyawiin.
We know *nothing* about this chapter or year yet so let’s all just relax and get through our crappy workdays and see what comes out this evening.

then you might as well put the P2W tag on it and call the game an day

Ugh, just why? It's an MMO game, get people to team up. Not to mention that overland content is already extremely easy, so why would anyone need help from an NPC is beyond me.
Thus would be the most useless thing ever. Outdoor content in ESO is already so incredibly easy that you can basically solo everything. Why would you ever need a companion?
World bosses. Dragons. Harrowstorms.
Never mind the fact that "you" applies to you, personally - not everyone can "basically solo everything."
Dont tell me there are ppl that play this game more then 4h and have problem with overland mobs, most overland is brain dead easy even for super casuals.

Sorry, but I have to laugh about this.
A companion to... talk with? In an MMORPG? Why would I ever want to hear and read the same dozen of lines it has to offer? What do you expect your companion to do or say? Maybe it’ll greet you every time you login, that’s about everything it can do. Besides that, if it will be a combat pet, it will have no AI. It will attack what you attack and that’s about it. ESO doesn’t have a pet AI. The thing we don’t need is more useless models clustered in cities and the world. Not enough that there are dozens of bankers and traders running around next to the horde of Sorcerer pets and bears, now everyone gets one of two (ONE of TWO) versions of a companion - I’m sure it will be fun when the cities are filled with these useless NPCs that all look alike.
People are satisfied with stuff that is
a) well done
b) thought out
c) makes sense as addition to the game
d) doesn’t reek of monetization efforts.
Unfortunately, companions don’t fulfill any of the points above. How can I say that before they’ve been officially announced you might ask - by just thinking about the possibilities in this game when it comes to pets, AI of NPCs and the difficulty level of the questing / overland content we can use these companions in. They make sense in offline RPGs, heck they even made sense in SWTOR, where every class had specific companions with very specific storylines and skills (there were 32 different companions at the launch of SWTOR back in 2011). And now we get two companions for every player? In a game that was never meant to have companions? Ok.

How I feel about companions: https://youtu.be/PzKo1JPNf4s
This is a list of assumptions for a feature you know almost nothing about
I will wait for the stream

Like it would matter. If they push more than 10k DPS, I will be shocked. (Assuming they're not designed to scale off your DPS, or something equally weird.)

moral of the story: people complain. very rarely is our species actually “happy”. tis the nature of the beast.
Not really - depends on the company you keep. You might find this interesting - https://worldhappiness.report/

lets say your an dd 1 bots an healer lets say low end heal lvl even , then others tank that taunts everything around them both having low damage say 7.5k even taking them into any SOLO area would more then needed to call them P2W as you can only get them by paying more into the game and only by that way
