Maybe it's just me cause I have been using charge since the dawn of time but most of my interactions with NBs seem to go like this:

    1. get ambushed
    2. purge and heal
    3. alternate charge and sweeps as the poor guy keeps trying to stealth away unsuccessfully
    4. Profit

Most of them can't keep up with the cone of sweeps paired with the intermittent off-balance/stun of charge. I have NEVER had a problem with a gankblade as a melee magplar.

Or they fear, port to shade, stealth then mark you from stealth but don't attack again

I used Mark of the Pariah on magplar as a backbar defense set combined with pirate skeleton. After elsweyr, i swiched pariah with transmutation with spell damage glyphs. Lost some recovery but my damage and healing has increased.

Based on @Minno and his hints, and from noticing it in game play, blocking seems to be more important for mitigating than other sources are. It already was the best, but out sounds like it's become marginally more effective due to new calcs. #giveusthescooop

Yeah transmutation's excellent 2-4 pc stats are one of the reasons I love this set so much. I recently went back to my old clockwork city build w/ overwhelming, trans and skoria and it still feels great..

Block was always strong lol. The old defense set thread proved it. Problem was they decided to make all blocked Mitigation additive to reach other resulting in higher Mitigation for block.

The new equation means there's issues with percentage based mitigation like protection/evaison. Combinations of the two are resulting in more DMG coming into the equation than we can test. It's probably a bug, but the vulnerability subtraction against ALL percentage Mitigation is here to stay.

That's what i wanted to hear. Blocks been bae on my templar since imperial city. Never looked back. Tried a resto for a few weeks recently. To keep glyphs procd. Probably going back to ice staff over snb though.

Ice staff is clutch. Though I hate fighting snb block tanks running heroic slash. That thing really needs to cost 3500 lol

I've always used a Resto staff for my defensive bar. But recently, I've been playing in much smaller groups and decided to give a Frost staff a try. And I must say my survivability has gone through the roof.

What sets would you suggest for a Stamplar? I really want to go back to it....really can’t find the right balance between enough damage and survivability

    Not really meta, but
    5x alessian
    5x veiled heritance
    2x Trollking
    1x master bow
    +Being nord

IS doing great for me , super tanky and still tons of damage

@Minno (or anyone else who uses DW)

In the magplar DW build, what passives specifically help our dmg?

1 - "Ruffian" helps only with DW skills, right?

    2- weapon type
If question 1 is correct, so we only benefit from "Twin blade & blunt"??? And we have to run 2 swords or it doesnt matter weapon type?

    3 - Glyphs
Nirnhoned main weapon, with spell dmg glyph?
    Infused/sharpened off-hand?

    Thanks in advance 🙏

Only twin blade and blunt does. If ur gonna go non staff, go 2h imo. Unless your single baring 2 sets.

And if you want a secondary trait on the weapons. Nirn+ whatever is a great way to fill out missing holes in your build. Like I use precise because most builds lost enough chc too be below 40% which is a big loss. Unless your sets has crit, aim for 40% .

2h is decent but you do notice the trait utility missing. And another useful trait is 1pc defending. It's like having a Protective trait and pairs up with the resist CP passive off frost staff.

For enchants you can do off hand SD. It's easier to proc when you need it but doesn't proc easily when you don't so you don't really notice the 5s cooldown. Ido shock mainhand. 30 or 40% chance to proc confused and I think the sword buffs the DMG so the loss on the 1h enchant nerf isn't bad. In pve I had it crit at 4200 or something, which isn't terrible for heavy attack. You can also do mag DMG/health enchant so when you heavy attack, you'll do two sources of mag DMG off the enchant which can crit (including the heal supposedly, or so Gilliam says back in Wrathstone lol).

So how is everyone finding Dark Flare? Some other poster in another thread before this patch said it was powerful. I believe they said it was ExCRUciating. :)

Dark flare was an excellent ability last patch, now it’s far less useful since it got nerfed by a staggering 37%. It lost its niche as the centerpiece of a burst combo, but you can still use it if you really want to apply major defile.

I swapped it out for solar barrage and feel good about that decision.

In my case is very situational and i dont use it a lot because of the hateful 1.1 sec

But it hits like a truck, as it always did imo

In melee build Its not bad as a opener, straight followed by toppling charge, for instance.
If in group, i like to use it in a ranged build... I leave the chaos zone and spamm it over the enemy

Well, I finally just saw my first Templar use DF since patch today. And that's it. Barely saw it before anyways. But dumb people call for unnecessary nerfs, and unfortunately, the Devs listen to them at times.

It needed a dmg nerf, but it also needed something in exchange. Maybe sorcery, or every 3rd cast bbn is instant.

I think they feel major defile is that compensation. But everyone knows it's function is mostly for Zergvzerg fighting and solar barrage it's superior for much more situations.

Shame because reflective light has less efficiency now which points at dark flare as a spamable but doesn't perform as such making Dawn's wraith feel clunky at times.

Lol bet when they revisit skills they look at df and say, "i wonder why no one uses it... barrage must be too strong, let's nerf it. "

That's exactly what will happen. They will Nerf t by 30% because of the empower lol

I’ve been using Rattlecage + Julianos (5h) but I’m getting quite bored of it and I’d like to shelf this build and try something new.

I really think it’s time to move to 5L to enjoy the light armour passives.

What would you suggest equip wise? I want to try and maintain a decent balance between tankiness and damage.

@Waffennacht and I are still trying to figure out the defensive sets post Elswyr. But if you go light, 2x defense it's generally decent.

I'm going rangeplar and utilizing engineer guardian for LOS. That would be 100% Mitigation/cc immunity in open world; but you have to embrace 100% range. Javelin works nice here and I still use reflective light as my spamable. But I don't use enduring Ray's; don't need extra ticks if I'm constantly reapplying DMG every 6-7 seconds.
