I live in the U.S. but play on both servers. A friend in England played so I made characters on the EU server too. My latency wasn't too bad until their server update and now it's often holding in the red and unplayable whereas before it would spike high but come back down. I don't know what changed but I have to say it wasn't for the better.

I really hope it helps, otherwise... might be time to call it

    It won't help.

The only fix for the problem is ZOS removing Akamai's DDOS scrubber from the path to the server, and their long silence says that they have no intention of doing that.

I really think that's me done with this game at this point. I'm not paying for another expansion on PC and PS4 - well over $120, along with $420 per year for ESO Plus for both of them - when the company clearly has no interest in returning the game's network performance to what it used to be a couple of years ago. Which was still worse than most other US games at the time, but now... now, it's the worst MMO by far for network quality.. this, from one of the most cashed-up publishers on the planet. It's shameful.

I’m upgrading to telstra NBN on Monday, from what i believe is cable (coaxial cable connecting modem to wall). I really hope it helps, otherwise... might be time to call it

Sorry to say mate, ive got fttp get on average 100mb down and 50 mb up. And the ms sits around 400-500.. Its not our net (funny enough) its how zenimax handles the information from cleint to server... Eso is rubbish at it.. People only put up with it because of a 'name' really not alot to stick around for..
Its a dead community at our prime time on all platforms (compared to other mmos).

If your existing connection is already to the wall (no wi-fi) and your ISP is already Telstra, then I would expect little difference as the fault that we are complaining about is due to the following:

    1. Poor routing from Oceania to Texas.

    2. Latency added by third party Akamai - also why point 1 exists.

    3. Bloat added by ESO over time. Server side latency has increased over time.

All three things combine to add quite a significant overhead to the latency issue, and those far away from the servers are the ones that notice it most.

Changing the type of connection on your side, assuming it was reasonable to begin with will likely have little (any) impact to the three points above.

I'd be interested in your response back though after your new connection has settled in.

You will see a huge difference. I went from 5mb a sec download to cable (45mb/s) and it was mindblowing. But it will want you craving more when you still experience lag spikes. Haha

I had "up to 100Mbps NBN plan" on FTTHouse link 12 months ago in ACT.
That had no obvious effect on ESO gameplay; it may as well have been 256k dialup.

Amazing how fast ZOS can respond to EU server dying threads yet we can't get a simple acknowledgment or explanation of sorts for so many months on end about our game experience being horrid.

I wonder if its local or a global issue ?

The sad thing is that the IT folks at ZOS apparently have no clue how to mitigate ddos attacks themselves - which is why they are paying akamai mega--bucks to do a job they are probably getting paid to do themselves.

I'm just happy to have better connect now, so I can actually bar swap.

Y'know, if there was really an OCE server, I'd play on it. When I played wow, I had a couple of accounts on the Aussie servers. It was nice - I could hook up with friends I have there, and if they weren't on due to the time dif, I could play in nearly complete quiet. It was a good relief from the family/friend's guilds frenetic race around instances.

Still unplayable without a VPN. Anybody from Aus/NZ who is new to the game will just quit due to ping, unless this is fixed. New players don't want to have to pay for a VPN, as well as the game.

I bought a digital piano on the weekend. So far, no lag (yes, that was passive aggressive).

Oh, and I cancelled my subscription the week before (and thankfully didn't buy new chapter). I have still spent $400-$450 on this game the past 6 mths and I am OK with that because I got value from it.

However I have made the decision that such future monetary outlays would be better invested in a potentially lifelong activity where I anticipate there will be better intrinsic rewards than here, and I feel the piano is actually talking to me.

Xbox - na, remembered that i pre-ordered elsweyr (or else i would have cancelled it). Loaded in to make a necro. Landed in elsweyr at the first wayshrine. Laggy as all hell. Couldnt mount after close to a minute of seeing the beginning of the mount animation, only to have it fail. Logged out and doubt i'll be jumping in to eso again any time soon. Finally cancelled my sub as well.

You say that like it doesn't happen here in Australia. FPS 1 LAT 999+ << those figures are typically in busy areas of Tamriel. This suggests to me that it's a fundamental aspect of game (mis)design.

World-class Satellite gives me 2.0 seconds response time.

My standard, high quality mobile tether provides 12FPS and 417-777 ms.

    Blame ZOS
    Blame Akamai
    Blame Telstra.

But why buy a product that CANNOT work?

The NBN causes all sorts of issues, it's mostly the upspeed choke that causes the problem. We don't communicate with the servers o/s fast enough.
