ESO Launcher Crashes on Update 9/04/2018

I tried downloading the whole game as a new install to my laptop via Verizion Fios. It kept stalling and closing the installer. after a good 20 some tries I looked online and found others with issues similar.

*Slow fix* Tried my phone as hot spot (Verizion, but not Fios) and the downloads continued past the depot files but at a much slower speed.

Tried it again on Fios after it got past those files and again started stalling at about 16% this time and closing.

*Fast fix* Switched to a VPN and its finishing the install without any issues.

Once again this issue persists. This time I made it to 34% before it crashes.

Once again ZOS has been silent on this issue since September not matter if paying customers are experiencing this or not.

VPN works for me, really sucks to have to use a third party app that will not actually get there due to data limits for large updates

I have resorted to uninstalling and reinstalling overnight.... Pisses me off but I am not spending more money on something that should work.

Hey, just an idea, but how about we keep a history of the URLs needed and what server they were for so that we can help some people if they may not be as savvy with sifting through thousands of lines in order to find the correct file locations and download sources.

I'm going to start the trend. I'm on the US server, and here are the files that are needed

I hope this helps more people at least until something can change. But if it is on the ISP side, those worthless companies don't give a *** about anything other than their stock price so they could care less about some people wanting to play a video game.

So we may as well help each other out and make it so we can all play.

Sigh - I just want to login to ESO every day or so and do a few quick quests. Having to uninstall/reinstall the game so often really interferes with that. I guess it's time to stop the automatic subscription renewals.

EDIT: And now even that doesn't work - patcher keeps crashing at 9-10%. None of my other games have any problems patching - ever! Is someone on the ZOS development staff purposely sabotaging their products?

Today's patch was frozen at 21% for me and nothing I did could change that. I"ve even uninstalled, redownloaded the game, and opened it to "download" from the launcher and it still freezes at 3% then crashes and closes on it's own, automatically, like it's been doing all day today.

The uninstall and the reinstall strategy seems to be working for me. My heart breaks for you guys that can't even do that. I am not sure what the deal is with ZOS. They use to comment on this thread but since September we have heard nothing from them on this matter.

When they did comment, they spoke in generalities, restart the modem, uninstall and reinstall, upload the log file. My line of thinking is that they have no idea what the issue is, or they do but do not with to spend the money to resolve it since only a select few are having this issue. Either way, the ZOS customer service and tech support departments rears its ugly heads once again.

I was going to take pictures of how to fix the problem when I ran into it last week, but I didn't have it so I couldn't do that. So I was almost looking forward to having the problem this week so I could take pictures this time. And it didn't happen again.

So I think the permanent fix is to want it to break, then it won't break.

I had a minor trouble while loading this last patch. Launcher showed me the speed of loading much greater than possible on my internet connection, so loaded patch in 5 seconds, when should in 30 sec, then displayed a message with Error 206 - PatchManifestError... Unzip Failed.
And the option to REPAIR showed up instead of PLAY.

I don't touch any repairs so I closed the Launcher, waited several seconds, started Launcher again and it made a proper download and installation this time. Problem solved itself without further issues .

Ok so has anyone gotten a recent answer on this? Its happening again and we (Wife and I) have been dealing with the whitelist IP download error off an on again, going on two months. At first with all the other reports I thought it would get fixed and didn't report it but now its regularly reported and nothing seems to come of it. Everytime its 9% then hangs and has to be killed. Can't even get to repair or settings. We've used up our phone data with hotspots then I used wget to download the patches manually, but now we just don't even try to play and are not only wasting our money as we are both ESO+ subscribers but have lost who knows how many daily rewards making those like a slap in the face. A quick look at any forum shows this is not isolated to us nor is it a new issue, yet I have seen nothing that makes it sound like ZOS/ESO has any plan for rectifying this once and for all or really any official word about it. ESO has always been pretty buggy, but this is a new level for something we bought twice, bought DLC twice, paid for two ESO subscriptions and now cannot even play it without playing hax0r everytime or using up our phone data.

I'm certain there isn't a clear answer to solve this.

This happened to me last week after the maintenance on 12-Nov-2018. I tried to search for an answer on the forums, found this thread, and after reading a bit I quickly realized no one had a clear answer other than the typical "have you turned it on/off again?" or "try checking your anti-virus software" nonsense.

Taking matters in my highly inept technical hands, I tried to solve this myself, and sure enough I was able to get the launcher to work--last week. Unfortunately, after the maintenance on 19-Nov-2018, the same issue occurred and whatever it is I did the week prior to fix the launcher stall, ends up not working this week.

To fix my launcher last week, all I did was reinstall ESO, but changed the default location file that the installer directs it to (I made a "New Folder" and installed it in there). After I did this, I ran the launcher to install the game and whatnot, and strangely enough every time I walked away from my computer screen, when I came back the launcher vanished (it probably crashed again). So after walking away a few times in a row, I decided to watch it install completely 1% by 1% and for some reason keeping my eyes on it prevented it from crashing and it installed all the way through 100%.

Again, that was last week. This week I'm coming up empty-handed, so for now I'm just going to take a short break from ESO and try again another day.

If i happen to contract a malware and problems, I know where to give responsability for it

What ever the heck you are doing since that last patch in September, you need to go back to the old way because since last week of September YOU are your own cause and affect.

Effecting 1000's of us.

That is only one issue.

Is Zenimax ever going to bother fixing this? I can’t install ESO at all on my laptop and haven’t been able to play on it for the past month, I’m honestly considering canceling my ESO plus because of this.

at this point they are just gonna loose money especially since they are trying to blame it on isp. if it was that then only a few people would be dealing with this not nearly everyone that plays eso. its clearly their fault because they cant get their crap together. its sad really

I might be in the same boat. I am at my parents house over the holidays. I brought a backup rig of spare parts that I planned to leave here (i5-7600K, 16gig DDR4, GTX 980). From what I can tell, they have otherwise very strong internet and my rig is otherwise very stable. Cant get passed about 1 minute of having the launcher open. I have played ESO here in the past.

It starts to download, the program freezes and then the launcher simply closes with no warning or message..

I have done multiple resets, rebooted router and modem (airport extreme), tried bypassing the router completely and plugged directly into the modem, all the same result.

RIP event feathers, so glad they did these over a holiday...

Glad you got it working.

If you can't get the download to complete without a VPN, there is something wrong between you and the host of the files. A VPN does not change where the files are coming from. All it changes is how the files get to you. What is wrong, and where it is wrong, is something for another discussion. It is probably not ZOS, the Launcher, or the file hosting service.

Yeah I don’t claim to be an expert on how all this works. I do know that in roughly 15+ years of playing online video games, I have never had to use a VPN for anything. I also know that the launcher failing to download seems to be a pretty common thing and this is a well known fix. My brother who lives in the same house that I am in now is a serious gamer and has never had issues with anything except this game. He hasn’t played eso in a while, but he said this has been an intermittent issue for as long as he can remember and again, only in this game.

Not trying to point fingers for blame, but i just don’t see how they aren’t at least partially responsible with this issue on their end. At least an error message when their program just closes would be helpful to give people something to go on....

Sadly, I am starting to wonder whether this is going to be the new normal. We might need a VPN for certain things just to restore internet functionality back to what it was. I am hearing things about a couple US ISPs that I don't like to hear, one of them my own. I am also hearing things about incompetence at ISPs around the world that break things.

I worry that might be what we are seeing here. Perhaps not with Akamai directly, but maybe some ISP that a group of people need to connect through to get to Akamai.

For those players still affected by the Labor Day patch/launcher issue, I have contacted attorneys about a class action lawsuit against Bethesda/Zenimax since they are shifting blame to ISPs instead of rewriting their broken patch code to fix the game. I will write an update when I learn more.

VPN works for me too, still need to hold Zenimax accountable, fix or not people shouldn't have to use a 3rd party app to launch a game they pay for

So the way I handle this is if the patch is 100mg or less, I use one of the "fixes" that have been listed above. The one that is a the slow download. Takes a little bit but I go find something else to do while it is DL. For massive patches, I have to uninstall and reinstall. Which is a royal pain but it works.

This had never happened with previous patches, but happened for the Labor Day patch and is happening again now. Going to try the manual download solution again. Sigh.

Edit: Tested just to be sure, and a VPN did indeed allow me to download the patch without a problem. I don't have Verizon FiOS; I'm located in Florida and have ***.

Okay this is getting out of hands. I have been having THIS issue, since the beginning of November, it has now been a month since i started to have this problem but I have yet to see a patch for it. Please Zenimax Fix this issue.
