ESO Launcher Crashes on Update 9/04/2018

  • KreifGames
I uninstalled and reinstalled the game again on my laptop, and it still fails at 301to303. Even though I have downloaded the .zip and .z01 for this package and placed it in to correct directory. I have tried running as administrator, and I also tried disabling write permission for the host developer log.

No luck. My only choices are download VPN junk on my laptop, or wait for Bethesda to fix it.

To those having issues still, this Worked for me. After racking my brain for a long time, I reinstalled windows 10 twice. The first time, I installed the latest Nvidia drivers, and the same thing happened. The ESO client froze up on the Repair phase. After another fresh install of Windows 10, I let windows install the default graphics Nvidia driver which is version 388.13. THIS WORKS!... If you have these same issues and a Nvidia GPU, try to uninstall your current version and only install the graphics driver, 3D vision driver, and HD audio driver of version 388.13. Good luck!

Also had launcher issues and for a time used a vpn to install eso. To fix it so the vpn wasn't necessary i had to change the security settings on my gateway / router / modem (what ever you have in your case i'm on fios so i have their provided gateway) from medium to low. For what ever reason the firewall in the gateway was blocking the patch server and would cause the launcher to freak out because (speculation) the launcher could still detect the internet, but was blocked from talking to the patch server.

so i've had this problem for over a month now give or take. i explained my problem launcher is frozen at 10% also told them my gf's PC sits right next to mine and she has no issues. outside of hers being launched thru Steam everything else about our connections are the same. i did the game consultant thing emailed the file to them and they told me my isp(***)was blocking some files or the launcher(already deleted email so not sure of exact wording). does that make sense being i have no problem with my gf's pc?

so i read somewhere maybe this thread about going here C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher and deleting the "program data" file so i did that and it worked! until the next patch and now i've tried repeating that step several times and it no longer works...frozen at 10%. i also tried going from wi-fi to hardwired since they suggested i try to change the way i connect to the internet to see if that would help...it didn't. i have 70 days left on my account and pay gf's account monthly. i will be canceling both(not cruel gf just doesn't play without me) until theres a solid fix. i just don't believe its on my end.

since my gf has no issues and goes thru Steam i'm thinking about linking my account and trying to launch game that way as a last ditch effort. i just know that there have been days that people in my guilds who go thru Steam haven't been able to log on so i'm kind of scared to link my accounts.

I purchased ESO through Steam, and I have the same problem. I had to use VPN to update my launcher and lower my security settings (on Verizon FiOS router) to play without VPN. I have only tested the connection briefly to make sure I could access my characters and the gameplay, but I won't resub or play the game until they fix their problem or inform people that their game may require third party software to play.

There was one update that needed 7 files, 2 in my user folder and not the game folder. One of the files was also a .z02 file. Look in the log file to see what the webget error is hanging on.

For those dropping their router security, consider putting it back after getting the patch successfully.

Greetings, I am one of the many here experiencing this kind of frustrating freezing on launcher and having tried pretty much everything suggested (both tickets and outside) with no success.

Currently i have erased completely the game from my pc and while re-downloading launcher it experience the very same freezing issue. I have tried to download a VPN but i am quite sure to have failed to proper using it.

Can someone who solved the issue downloading the game7patches using a VPN explain step-by-step how it is done?
(including which of the many VPN available on internet is suggested. I downloaded one named "Opera VPN", that is free as base version, but basically it is a browser and i think while i switched the VPN "on" the launcher doesn't follow that path).

Also feels free to think you're trying to explain how it works to someone with the PC-compentence of a monkey! :)
    Thank you very much ^^

    24 Dec 2018:

Same issues as everyone else, and after combing through all 18 pages so far, nothing has worked. Have had an open ticket for days which has the same generic workarounds as everyone else is getting. I even went so far as to disable all firewalls (windows, mcaffe, and router's) AND use a VPN (windscribe) to attempt to patch. Havent played since morrowind and wanted to come back with the gf. She purchased a new copy from steam during the sale- same issues. "appeared" to update, then fatal error 12 on launch. I have the standalone and had much more trouble just getting to her error. Attempted to repair countless times, and every time the launcher freezes and crashes immediately after any download attempt.Download stalls. Looked into the host.devlogs to find the webget errors and attempted manual downloads. Nothing. Still only get client fatal error 12 no matter what. C O X internet for ISP in case that matters. Already called them and they said it isnt on their end, and they dont bother to monitor port forwarding on their devices so use at your own risk. All of the ports had already been opened by default. The thing is, i've played from this location, on this ISP on this pc in the past with no issues. Its only a recent issue that I cannot see being blamed on the ISP, and if thats the case, its Zenimax's responsibility to ensure that all ISPs will accept the content they push out. This is especially unacceptable for new players simply trying to access the game for the first time. It has left such a bad taste in both mine and my gf's mouths when it comes to ESO, Zeinimax, and Bethesda. It should never be the customers responsibility to go through all of THIS ^ and pay for 3rd party software, and manually patch a developers game, and reduce security settings simply to gain access to the game at all. Utterly unacceptable and we will be leaving ESO if a resolution from Zenimax isnt provided. Its a slap in the face to long time paying customers and a disappointed fanbase.

So, I've uninstalled ESO and installed it about 3 times. I've even used Revo to make sure all the root files were gone. I install it from steam, I have Fios, I've changed the setting for the ipv4 to low, and it still crashes on patching.
My husband's computer that sits RIGHT NEXT TO MINE patched it just fine.
I've gone through this entire thread and I have tried everything to get this to work -- do you guys not have more answers outside of "it's an ISP thing"?

To update everyone on the patcher issue, we can confirm this is an ISP issue. We’ve reached out to the internet providers who are blocking the associated files, and at this point, it’s up to them to resolve the problem. In the meantime, using a different network path could fix the problem and allow you to fully patch the game since this issue only affects certain files. In this case, you could try using VPN or using a different network or WiFi connection. You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

We are currently looking into ways to prevent ISPs from doing this to our traffic in the future. Thanks for everyone’s patience, and if you require further assistance, we encourage you to reach out to our Support Team.

Why is it that it's only you guys that are having this issue. Of all the games I have installed on my system that regularly push out updates, you guys are the only one with this problem.

    Good question.

This is the only game I've ever owned or currently own that needs a VPN to update properly so clearly it must be an ISP problem.....LOL!!

I just want to post an update here in regards to this downloading issue with the patcher. It is very much still occurring as I just went thru it myself yesterday.

Host.developer log file reads the same as what others have posted, "Web Get Error, Hostname not in whitelist" errors with an iP address and a url it says it is failing to connect to.

The strange thing is, I can ping the ip listed in the log file without a single issue and can in fact download the file manually by pasting the url listed in the log file into my browser. In fact, that is how I was forced to get my ESO game completely downloaded and playable.

I had to download the 30 individual Z01 Z02 etc etc files then paste them into the ESO folder. Once I had downloaded these 30 2 GB files one by and one and pasted them into the ESO folder, the launcher was able to successfully verify these then continue to download and install remaining game files and complete.

As an additional note, I did contact the technical department for my ISP and they went thru many steps including forwarding ports, changing modem settings etc and none of it would allow the patcher to properly connect to those 30 base game files it initially has to download.

Has anyone at all found a REAL fix for this? I have tried everything in all 18 pages of this post. NOTHING is working to fix this. I tried uninstalling everything and now it won't even finish downloading the game. I haven't been able to play in almost 2 months.

And BTW I am with ***.net for ISP.

Really?? This thing is going to filter my ISP name C o x.net.

For anyone this might help. I too was having a big issue with this. I got fed up with it and decided to move the entire contents of the depot folder leaving the folder empty. Then did a repair from the launcher and that did it. I can log in now. Maybe this will help others.

To get ESO to properly download:

Uninstall the game (if you have already installed once) and delete the entire ESO folder on your HDD.

Reinstall, Open the launcher and let it run until it crashes (or download stalls)

After it crashes/stalls, make sure to exit launcher fully, navigate to the ESO directory>Launcher folder and open the Host.developer log file in notepad.

Scroll to the bottom of this notepad document and find the location where it has the webget errors, hostname not in whitelist etc, in there you will find a URL that will start with http:// and end in .Z01.

Copy this enitre URL and paste into your browser, this will pop up to download a file. Save this download.

Repeat this download from your browser 30 times, changing ONLY the number at end of the URL (.Z01, .Z02 up to .Z30)

Once you have downloaded these 30 large files, open the DEPOT folder under your ESO directory(Elder Scrolls Online>Depot), delete EVERYTHING that is in it and paste those 30 files into there.

Reopen the launcher and it will verify those 30 files and proceed to successfully download and install the remaining data needed.

Silliest of things we have to do to get the game to download, but those steps above will work 100% guaranteed.
