The game seems to be working at the moment for my husband and daughter, others seem to be getting in as well.
That's without running it in any special different way, or sacrificing a goat. They just haven't updated the banner yet. :)

In the meantime, we do plan to grant all Steam players an extra Psijic Vault Crown Crate since not everyone was able to login during last weekend’s giveaway event. These crates will be delivered to your account after the next PC maintenance, tentatively scheduled for July 2.

    A crate?

A lot of Steam users are reporting that they've re-bought the game directly from you. Maybe you could refund them that money then grant the rest of steam users a free non-Steam ESO key so they can effectively play your game. They should also be granted a free month for the hassle, plus the 1500 crowns stipend. THEN you can pull ESO off of Steam and not work with Valve ever again.

That's the proper way for ZoS to handle this. Not "Oh here's a crate."

Please send this feedback to your bosses, Gina.

PS: You don't need Steam. The game is successful enough without Steam, but what will hurt you is if all those steam users stop playing and take their money elsewhere. I know above I said that a lot of people are reporting that they've re-bought the game, but were I in that situation, I would've told the game to **** right off. I already pay a monthly fee and paid for the expansions, and sometime I will purchase a crown pack to treat myself. Why should I pay for the game a second time just to be able to play?

As of right now, ESO's reviews on Steam are tanking. And if you read the reviews, you will see that a lot of them say the game itself is fine, but don't buy from Steam. But it still makes the game and ZoS look bad. The game is just about 150 votes shy of 1500 negative reviews on Steam since June 1. Over 800 of those reviews occurred yesterday. Were I a new player looking to purchase this game anywhere, I'd be turned off by that in a second, and look at something else.

As a consumer, threads like this really irk me and should concern literally everyone who plays this game. Never ever should a customer service rep tell a customer "LOL you're screwed. Buy the product again. (But if you do, you might have issues. Good luck.)"

Nothing wrong with letting people know their options if they really want to play NOW. But they really need a way to compensate people for the cost to transition. Forget crates. Give a month of ESO+. Something of value to every player.

It is a problem when the official ZoS line regarding compensation is one free crate.

Thanks for the update. I'm willing to buy the game (again) direct from ESO. How would I go about making sure all of my characters and their progression transfers over? Thanks so much!

I did this yesterday and it works fine. Bought the base game on sale for $10, used my Username/Password that I use for ESO Steam version, and started playing in 10min. All my characters, DLC’s, Houses, achievements, etc are still there. Steam version times out, version I just bought through ESO official store works without a problem! And NO I didn’t own this game before the Tam One update, first purchased Nov 2016. This is a Steam problem and I’m glad I’m free from it!

Again, Steam login should be an option, not a requirement.

Steam loses no money, as purchases can still be made when it's up and running.
User lose no downtime because they can still login directly via the launcher or the .exe.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

I already have non-steam account, but have no dlc and collection. Can i link accounts for gettings my dlcs and collection? Or not? Yes or No?

Well, at last logging in via Steam seems to work - at least for me. Did only take about 24 hours? Hopefully we can put this behind us now, right ZOS? To keep in mind for next time I'd really like to hear more from you developers during the downtime (thanks @ZOS_GinaBruno for the concise comment earlier today so we knew you were alive )

I got ESO in January this year and I wasn't able to log in without Steam using the eso64.exe for months, then yesterday I tried and it was possible.

My guess is that anyone who got a PTS pass for Summerset might be allowed to log in to the game without using Steam. Can anyone confirm that?

While frustrating, I think that there is something that is getting a little lost on folks.

First, Steam's Customer Service is legendarily bad. It always has been. I'm going to guess that the team that we have to deal with is pretty near the exact same team that ZOS has to deal with when it comes to issues.

Secondly, Steam has been imposing new restrictions on not just ESO's accounts, but on near every game's account that i've been playing recently; requiring full integration with Steam. Why? Money. Valve then gets to continue taking that 1/3rd cut on every purchase made for all DLC, Subscriptions, etc, moving into the future.

Pair these two things together and what do you have?

ZOS banging its head against a wall the same way that Valve's customers often have to when dealing with their atrocious CS team.

It will get fixed. Thankfully i'm sure that ZOS has a little more leverage with them than we do. If it were as easy as just "rolling the accounts over", i'm sure ZOS would do that, as it's a lot easier to maintain everything on their end than it is to enter a contractual obligation with Valve regarding account control and crossing your fingers that you don't as a company have to fall into a situation like this.

That's not on ZOS. That's on Valve. Hence why Gina is posting that they're in communication with Steam about this.

I paid them again as well to be able to unlink from steam. Heck I did it 3 times because I wanted my wife and daughter's accounts unlinked as well. Would I have preferred a free option to unlink from steam? Yes. Is there one right now? No. Does whining and complaining about it do anything? Apparently not. So I did what was available to me, especially because there was a sale on it at the time.

10/10 Would throw money away again.

Sadly this is all speculation as apart from that enigmatic post about working with Steam there's zero information as to what the root cause of the problem was. There's a tacit assumption that if Steam was involved then it must be their fault but frankly debugging an authentication issue without both sides working on it is extremely difficult. So blame casting without any information is unhelpful at best and misleading at worst.

Sadly we will not now, like every other time, be told what the issue was or who resolved it or how. In fact getting a straight answer from our Customer service is legendarily bad.

All I want to know is if the issue has been resolved to prevent recurrence. If the answer to that question is that it's been fudge fixed again then I will not renew my ESO plus which is soon to come up for renewal.

I don't think so, basically if you look at your account and it says Elder Scrolls Online: Steam Edition or something like that, then you use steam to login. Buying a crown pack wouldn't change that.

I POSTED THIS June 18th, It best way to fix the issue.
    CONFIRMED STEAM FIX!
Been playing with no problems at all.
If your still having problems, Try this.
Matter fact this fix will probably work every time you have log in issue.

    From Bethesda:
    RESET THE PROGRAMDATA FOLDER
If playing on PC, you can try resetting the ProgramData folder:

Close both ESO and the ESO Launcher.
    Open the game's installation directory.
    Open the folder named Launcher.
Inside the "Launcher" folder, there is a folder named "ProgramData".
Rename the "ProgramData" folder to "ProgramDataBackup".
Open the launcher and Click REPAIR in options and download update.
    Click Play.

“Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored. There are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
will make you the winning-est winner of all.
Fame! You'll be as famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

    Except when they don't
    Because, sometimes they won't.

    I'm afraid that some times
    you'll play lonely games too.
    Games you can't win
    'cause you'll play against you.”

It's people like me who would prefer to be online playing the game as opposed to staring at a login screen. When my car breaks down, I don't go on the Honda forums and complain that their car making service has gone to the wayside, I pay a mechanic to fix it. Here there was a way that I could pay to fix it. So I did.

Nice strawman. Your 'point' about your Honda would only be relevant if 1) Your Honda broke down several times over the past couple of years and 2) Other Honda owners report the exact same issues happening. Chances are you wouldn't purchase another Honda if that were the case.

Your car breaking down only once due to a weird malfunction or regular use is not the same thing as the ZoS/Valve relationship being troubled for years and the user experience being absolute garbage. This is certainly not the first time that only Steam users have been prevented from being logged in, and ZoS/Valve turning a blind eye to it.

Like I said, it's customers like you that give game companies the green light to take advantage of our kindness and our love for the game. GG.

Except Steam still has your money and ZoS now has your money twice over per account you repurchased the game with.

So in the end, who is the real winner?

    (Hint: It's not you.)

Though, hypothetically speaking, would you have done the same if the game wasn't on sale right now? And no, I didn't read too much into your 'point.' You decided to post a strawman argument to suit your agenda and I simply pointed out the holes in your 'logic.'
