While the overlaying issue "appears to be a steam issue", Im not convinced that the underlying issue isnt related to the long launcher load, the long load in from password, the long load in from character select and the long load from zoning. Sounds to me like it's more of a time out in steam due to whatever the long loads are which is a ZOS problem.

@ZOS As stated previously, please provide steam users with an option to log in using the default launcher. Players who purchased the game through steam before the accounts were linked have this option, so it can't be that difficult to implement. I have run into this problem before, where steam issues mean I cannot log into the game at all, even though the game servers are up and other users are able to play fine. Steam is a convenient distribution network for game files, but it shouldn't be such a fail point for logging into an mmo.

If you can see "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\Launcher\Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe" then you have the original Bethesda launcher. Shut Steam down and run it. Some people have said bypassing Steam disables ESO+ but it's working fine for me. The only difficulty is ZoS' brain damaged faux-security nonsense making you reauthorize your PC for the umpteenth time before the launcher becomes fully usable.

I don't understand this reference. I can log in to EU just fine, so if there are complaints from countries outside NA it's because they are using NA servers, not because this is some world wide issue.

Those in power only have the illusion they are powerful, however in reality, those in power are only so because we allow them to be.

The way you say that makes it sound like you guys are considering Steam users as second class citizens. Which, maybe we are.

I get the error launching the normal way through Steam. If I switch to EU I can at least get to the character selection screen.
My account was originally not made through Steam but I did link it. So I tried going straight to eso64.exe at steamlibrarylocation\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client and I was able to login and play characters.
