Your partnership with Steam seems to hurt more than help most times. All I ever hear are complaints from people who buy crowns from steam, or re-up their accounts through them. I ALWAYS direct them to buy directly from you guys. I know they are convenient, but when there's this many problems....

Dang I thought this would be fixed by today. I know a few people mentioned this but I wanted to give the info also.

I get the error launching the normal way through Steam. If I switch to EU I can at least get to the character selection screen.

My account was originally not made through Steam but I did link it. So I tried going straight to eso64.exe at steamlibrarylocation\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client and I was able to login and play characters.

I've had to do this since Update 17 and now ESO+ is disabled since the grace period is over.

Did you buy ESO+ through Steam? I do it through their website and I still have it logging in this way.

Thanks @ZOS_JessicaFolsom ! I was just able to log into the PC EU server through the Steam launcher and start making a new character (I have only ever played PC NA, so I did not have an existing character on the EU megaserver); however, I received the same error when trying to log into the NA server.

But I am now logged in and playing PC NA by using File Explorer on my 64-bit Windows 10 computer and going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client and running the "ESO64.exe" application.

    Thanks for all the help!
    Best,
    Ettin

I don't know what Zenimax means by some steam users. Every steam user in our guild cannot log in.

I was able to log in by bypassing steam but my ESO Plus bonus is not active.

Go to Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Zenimax Online/The Elder Scrolls Online/game/client and click on ESO file. You will have to supply your user name and password and the game will send you a code to put in but you will get online.

I bought the game early on Steam (on a nice discount) and now am subscribing through Steam. Thanks Prodigy, this trick let me login with my ESO user/password.

It didn't need to be said; it's already pretty damned obvious. Seeing as we can't even log into the freakin' game - and the problem is still going on 12+ hours with no end in sight!

Ahh. I read that as "the problem we are working on will not fix non-Steam players".

In context, there was a thread yesterday going off on ZOS because they were not able to log in and were not a Steam user. They insisted that the problem was bigger than Steam. I guess what @ZOS_JessicaFolsom could have added is a little blurb that people who are not on Steam and having trouble logging in should open a ticket with support. That is how I interpreted the "only".

Yes, if you have esp+ via steam, after x hours of unlinked state, it disconnects eso+ from your account.

Basically first is dlc loss, then craft bag and research.

For that to work you have to actually have your ESO password, which not all of us do. Because apparently Steam keeps it locked up somewhere.

I was able to log on and play for a while late last night (after midnight EST) and then this morning it is back to the login error screen. This seems like a very odd error to be getting.

Just wondering if anyone else had a similar situation.

Is there some way that ZOS can migrate us from Steam accounts to "normal" accounts and be done with the Steam problems? I didn't realize there would be so many problems from buying the game through steam. I wouldn't have purchased it through them if I had known then what I know now...

I couldn't agree more. I'm currently reading and agreeing with all the newly added negative reviews on Steam. At this rate the negative reviews people are writing will change ESO's "mostly positive" rating to "mixed" on Steam. When I see a game with a mixed rating or lower on Steam I normally pass on the game.

I think there needs to be some kind of compensation since our Plus memberships have gone inactive due to all of this. I guess I'll be getting things done today instead of playing my game.

Yeah pretty much I as a steam user can access EU server and play but that said it doesn't port over any of my NA items such as skins costumes pets mounts polymorphs and all that. We all know by now we can prob access NA by using the client only instead of initiating the client thru steam. It was fine 22 hours ago when i logged out of cyrodiil, but this morning, cant do anything normally.

My ESO+ is paid for via Steam but I have a pre-linked Steam version so I can log in fine, but my ESO+ states '0 days remaining'. This is EU too.

That only further bolsters my point..."Some ... of our Steam NA and EU..." it is affecting ALL NA Steam and as far as I know NONE of the EU Steam since everyone affected seems to be able to log in to EU Steam.

    Steam PC/NA.

I did find a temporary workaround by launching ESO64.exe directly from the game files. Gotta put in username/password, and possibly an access code. This will only work if your ESO account wasn't created through Steam (if you're like me and had an account prior to Steam launch and linked it to Steam).

Sadly, this doesn't seem to work for OS X using the game_mac/pubplayerclient/eso App with Steam open. :'(

Correction, this does also work for OS X, if you use the correct credentials (same ones that I log into https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/ with). ;) As noted, your ESO+ and other Steam purchased access will not be accessible. Some mention there's a timeout to this, but I logged in via Steam yesterday and yet when I try this method today my ESO+ features (e.g. Craft Bag) are already "locked".

The timeout appears to be based on either time played or active time. I logged into EU via steam, made a character and hopped on with ESO+ then logged into NA manually. I had about 1 minute of ESO+ before it locked me out of ESO+ when I next loaded.

Not letting me go in through the back door either.

Tells me my password is invalid or to log in though steam.
