Exactly this. If it'd been advertised as "Hey we're doing a stress test, help us out and get a chance at shinies" then I wouldn't be so disappointed. I decon'd most of my Rewards for the Worthy from the double AP event, but at least I knew what I was getting into with that.Alchemical wrote: »I feel like the event was grossly marketed in the wrong way. Instead it's a whole lot of junk that clutters up inventory space, two extremely lame reskins, and two cool costumes (two ok ones) and an infinitesimally small chance of winning big.

So small no one so far seems to have won the big 'pack' of mounts/houses. I won't be surprised if no one gets one, in all honesty.
The event is horse ***. I'm sorry, but it is. "Hurr durr its free don't complain" shut up. Being free doesn't make it in any way, shape, or form a 'good' event. The deliberately misleading marketing, the garbage drop rates, the glitchy dungeon finder. It's all a big dumpster fire. This was suppose to be a celebration for the loyal players and all it does is mislead and *** on them.

With the anniversary boxes in April there was a good "middle ground" of rewards: alchemy ingredients and ebony were fine as base rewards, but there were lots of motifs and plans in the drop table too. I was excited to open those boxes! Even if I got a celestial motif I'd already learned, I could donate it to a guild bank and look forward to a rarer motif next time. (And so on.)
These boxes, on the other hand, have too much junk at the bottom end. I'm happy for my guild mates who've gotten costumes or CWC plans (okay, I'm jealous too) but I've gotten mostly crown consumables, treasure maps, and mimic stones. The consumables don't stack with the ones I've got left over from Black Fredas 2016, I give away most of my maps anyway, and I still have mimic stones from buying Grim Harlequin two Halloweens ago. So far it isn't worth the aggravation of fake tanks and impatient people.
It really doesn't help that crown crates led to me disliking the consumables. Just from the free crates! Opening a crate and getting meals or potions was already "Ugh, again?" So opening a box isn't "Oh, a consumable" it's "Ughhhh, insult to injury and I can't even turn it into something useful."

Sure, it's not a perfect event. Not everyone gets exactly what they wanted after a few randoms, but who really expected that? Lower your expectations. Compare this event to no event. Seems better now, right?

That's kinda the problem, though. This isn't really a "free" event. We're not spending money, true. But there's a significant opportunity cost. Running dungeons can be very time consuming. Hell, I've been seeing guildies who spent six hours trying to work through their alts on this.
The problem isn't about not getting the *** prize we were looking for, it's that the incentive for participation feels woefully underwhelming.
Ironically, I think the event itself is fantastic. It's a great idea. Something ZOS should probably do more often. But, the way the rewards are handled, from tying the boxes to the random dungeon system, to the abysmal drop rates, saps the spirit of the event.
I seriously suspect if you let people pick their dungeons instead of pointing them towards the group finder, and adjusted it to be a quest based reward in each capital, you'd actually see a much more community focused event.
Yes, not getting anything neat from the boxes is a reason to have a negative reaction. But, the decisions that pushed us into a system that tends to break unpredictably, is where a lot of the real aggravation comes from.
To all the people saying "you get free stuff, how can you whine": Yes, we get free stuff, still the event does not at all feel as advertised, especially as an "appreciation of 10 million players", so it is very understandable to be disappointed.
I personally am disappointed 1. that random vet doesn't give better drops than random normal (again, a wasted chance to make random vet attractive and useful again, even if just for a few days), 2. about all the technical issues that they must have had foreseen (surprised that the broken GF can't handle the stress? seriously?), 3. the terribly watered-down loot tables (lockpicks? really?), 4. the terribly bad drop rates for useful loot (25 of 30 runs consisted of potions and undaunted keys).
If that's how you celebrate 10 million players, I'm gonna spare myself the rest of this "event".
