I watched the tourney later on @Blobsky twitch. I think i found my favorite dueling commentator. That seksy UK accent and passive fashion per seconds was awesome. He literally keep the energy up 100% of the stream. I hope blobs senpai would keep comentaiting!
Also I was rooting for Marcel like a maniac! I almost broke my keyboard when he lost at the end.!!!!
Was brilliant to see everybody with a positive attitude, rather than much of the EU drama we have, as well as people of all abilities turning up.
There were a few builds that I'd strongly consider 'duel' builds only, but in general a lot of openworld builds performed very well, and the entire structure was a pleasure to watch.
(Meanwhile PC EU is gona be people with 400 stamina sustain and 7k weapon damage bleed builds or 85% heal debuff builds )

Yeah, it would be great if you would stop dissing EU in every post. If I am not mistaken Kena was using Durok in first and second tournament...
EU is toxic and populated by not only 85% healing debuffs and bleed builds, but also with people that come to Bergama to duel in shieldbreaker, with wings, mines, three pets, etc...
We probably as community must educate people on dueling rules and make a post with ZoS support something like “duelling rules” or something...

I know it would be a challenge to enforce and obviously you would have to spend a good amount of time ensuring the templates are balanced and intelligently made.
It reminds me of what we used to do in COD tournaments when creating rulesets for upcoming seasons. I personally really like the minimalist philosophy that is if you make everyone use the same things it simply becomes a matter of who is better with those things. Obviously this game is subject to more inherent imbalance than pvp in other games so simply saying something like OK all mag builds must use julianos willpower all stambuilds hundings agility isn't going to be practical. But I am sure you could come up with a few template builds for different styles of playing that would be balanced relative to one another.
It would definitely be interesting to make some sort of stipulation like only crafted sets - then work within those restraints. At least for one tournament.

I'm afraid that would make fights boil down to three points:
- Whose class skillset is more suited to Alchemist + Acuity builds
- Who can get Alchemist and Acuity to proc at the same time
- Who is best at avoiding others' Alchemist + Acuity windows until their own Alchemist + Acuity window lands

This community, believe it or not, is not a lone in this regard. These so called, 'Grass roots' communities that don't have any pre-existing rule set from the devs / game itself, will often just make their own ruleset.
It's not always perfect though. I've been to tournaments, outside of ESO, where certain behavior rule-sets are enforced on-top of the usual stuff.
It can get pretty complex. It'll be interesting to see how this Tournament Series continues to play out.

Yeah this is why it was really appealing to me to, having been involved in other gaming communities that did this. If the community is mature enough to be able to create their own custom rulesets and formats it can add a whole new level of enjoyment and competition to the game.
On top of that these things almost always start as community driven and then if they are popular enough developers end up catering to it too encourage it further which we see in the evolution of many other games.

By off balance I mean two separate monster pieces. That would be amazing and cool. I would love an invite to this guild. I watch blobs of the turny and I was cool good job. As my point to the Christmas special tournament, also specify only purple gear. True fair play I think. Cheers

Again, this would be impossible to enforce and therefore not very competitive for those who follow the rules. What about the current rules don't you consider fair?

Not only is it hard to enforce but it also favors certain classes over others.
Would you allow master/maelstrom weapons?
Would you allow 2x 1p resistances?
