Dropping Ultimate in non-combat situations by mistake?

Have you ever dropped your ultimate by mistake when trying to craft, picking up mats, openning chests, etc?

All the damn time.

Usually in the bank or very public, well traveled area where I can embarrass myself as much as humanly possible.

not so much a problem while not in combat, but, i''m on the ps4, and have L1 & R1 set as my shields on my mag sorc - so, whether I want to or not - seems like I'm always firing off my ult...

Since I'm left-handed with the mouse (right-handed during any other circumstance in life, don't ask me why though) I positioned all of the key bindings to the right side of the keyboard, leaving only the "activate" toggle on the "E" button, to make sure that such mundane mistakes never occur in my gaming life

Short answer, no I haven't actually dropped an ultimate by mistake when using the "E" button

I moved all my skills and other combat-related key bindings to the number pad, partially because I'm left-handed and it's more comfortable to have my right hand on that side of the keyboard, but also because I find it makes it easier to keep track of which keys I'm pressing which means things like this are much less likely to happen.

But it does still happen from time to time. More commonly though I misjudge a fight and either charge in and use my ultimate right away and then realise they were a lot weaker than I expected, or I use it when it's charged up and then find the fight ends a couple of seconds later.

But when that happens I remind myself that at least I'm not playing Baldur's Gate where I'll have to wait until my character is ready to sleep, and then find a safe place to sleep, before I can use it again.

Nope. First thing I did was move my Ultimate hotkey from "R" to "6". My keyboard is split between 5 and 6 so not an issue for me.

I moved my ult to T for this very reason.

Also, I'm left handed and I'm going to try these suggestions from this thread...

In the old days, before console, if you didn't use your ult you lost it regardless.

Iirc. 5 minutes out of combat and your ult dropped to zero. Think of quests with a boss at the end but most of non combat before getting to that boss. Granted, the quest bosses were not a huge challenge but will more challenging than they are today.

Yes, a couple of times. I once accidentally did it in a bank (got immediate hate tells). That's when I changed its key assignment.

I open the quest journal.



Edit: I don't keep a lot of quests in my journal, I hear it increases the load screen between zones (having to update location markers or something). Also it's the same window with the achievements tab and I have some I need to complete to level TG, DB, and Undaunted rep.

It has happened pretty often while looting chests, urns, crates, etc.

This is what I did after a few mistakes with dropping my storm atronach in a bank. Though I used 7 because my 5 and 6 are next to each other.

When I was a newb I thought ultimates were precious "oh Snip" buttons that had to be saved for dire circumstance, not something you can use all the time as a part of regular rotations. I still play without ultimates or potions when I solo but I've learned that they are necessary parts of combat mechanics not "mistake fixers"

All. The. Time. And everyone I know in-game knows that pain, too. I think sometimes the anvil at a blacksmithing station looks at my smith funny and he feels the need to smite it. Also, very often thieves' troves need to be taught a lesson.

Many times... Last time it was more than a year ago though, but it was last straw - transformed into werewolf while fishing Assigned ultimate to different key on all characters, but sometimes see other players drop their ultis in weird places, trying to guess if it was intended ulti or not
