It's Saturday afternoon in Italy. I'm finishing up Caldwell Gold, only the Rift left, and almost managed to get to v16 before DB, not because I believe it will give me an advantage when the vet ranks are removed, but just for bragging rights, in case some oldie decides to say "
Eh, you had it easy, I leveled up when there were still vet ranks, those were the times, it was harder back then". Then, the very old ones would say it was even harder, but, meh, not my fault I played later on.
A guildmate logs in, says hi. I say hi back.
Then he asks: "Hey, have you been to Cyrodiil already ?".
Me: "Yeh, did the tutorials and stuff, but I'm leveling up the horse, thing is mighty slow, I always fall behind when running to stuff".
Him: "How many AP do you have ?".
ME: "Dunno, lemme check".
Him: "
[Molag Kena's Guise] for sale in Cyrodiil".
Me: ":o how much".
Him: "200000 AP".
Man... that was a lot of zeros...
Me:"I have 16k".
Him:":(".
Me:"How long will it be there ?"
Him:"All weekend, there are always different ones".
Me:"So... If I start now... there should be plenty of time, right ?"
(The conversation might've been embellished for the sake of entertainment, I don't remember the exact words, but, pretty much, that was it)
It's fine, I played PvP in plenty of other games, how hard could it be ?
Press L, select my home campaign, Asura's Star, join, get in, I'm in Cyrodiil with my trusty PvE set (leveling up was so fast, that I didn't make a new set every level, only every 10 levels or so) and build, I mean... How hard could it be ?
A bit worried about the population, EP is locked, AD medium, DC medium... well
Thus began a weekend of almost uninterrupted PvP ... well, no, I did sleep, and, at some point, they bribed me with beer and snacks...
Sunday, though, was all day long.
I won't be giving details, I won't talk about the countless times I've been ran over by
Nor I will be talking about the people yelling "
HODOR" when the
Red Wave was knocking on Bleakers and reinforcements were on their way (xD).
I won't be talking about the times I was ganked while running to a siege, nor when I took part to a gank group cutting reinforcements from a siege.
I won't be talking about the time we had to defend from
reds while battering Alessia's inner doors trying to take it from the elves.
I won't be talking about the rush when, at 21:00 (GMT+1) I needed 25k AP more and I couldn't find a fight worth the points.
I won't be talking about my guildmates asking me if I wanted them to lend me the gold to buy it, and how I refused because I
just wanted to do it (Shia would be proud).
All I'm going to say is that I had a very fun weekend, sometimes alone, sometimes with guildmates, a bit with
Long story short
Expectations subverted!
Too bad I, then, went to the forum to make this post, let everybody know how much fun I had killing people, and getting killed (also got Emperor Slayer chieve \o/) and I saw the CE posts...
Man that bummed me.
I could believe that some people might decide to use it to make a point (point not made, folks), but there's also a lot of others using it
just because!(TM) (I kid you not, I went to do some research, found the forums, people saying stuff like "
The game is boring, help me cheat" (._. ) ... so much sadness condensed in such a small sentence), so...
BUT
This was meant to be an edifying tale, so, here's the real conclusion
Which means that, when you put effort into it, nice things happen. I understand that, for many people, 200k ap might sounds trivial, but for me was a big deal. It was also the first real experience with large scale PvP, and I had a really good time, despite not doing damage xD
Hope you enjoyed.
