Well, maybe if it was on sale and I heard more good things than bad about it. I sure wouldn't pay full price during prerelease and a monthly subscription again for a game full of bugs. Paying less would allow to greatly lower my expectations.

ZOS is far from perfect but I'm still having a lot of fun playing ESO and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters to me.

Also, I'm not into P2P games so it'd have to be B2P for me to buy it.

I definitely would buy another ZOS title.

I'm having a blast with ESO, it's very much bug-free for me (I'm not saying that there aren't bugs, just that I only rarely experience them), there's plenty of questing to be done. The areas to explore are expansive and highly detailed, and there's quite a few of them.

In all, ESO has been a great experience so far for me, and that doesn't seem like it will change any time in the future if they keep up this type of quality.

So yes, I would definitely buy another ZOS title.

Well, they were a new company and ESO was their first game, so the hope would be that they would learn from their mistakes and do better next time. Having said that, here we are two years later and there are still a large number of mistakes being made (some repetitively) that really should not be made at this point.

An adventure or some other slow paced single player game with a focus on, well, world building for the lack of a better term, yes. That's what ZOS seem to be very good at.

Anything MMO or multiplayer that depends on proper network code and robust game mechanics, hell no. Just pay a short visit to one of the populated PvP campaigns and you'll know why.

So let me get this straight, you're on the forums of a game, making comments...it's been out for two years now, you're still playing.

but yet you hate the company so much that built this game you'll NEVER buy another game from them again.

    *eye roll

Yeah ESO makes me grumble sometimes, but in the end, best PvP experience I've ever had with a game in a genre that I love. You no votes aren't being honest.

I voted no because that's my initial feeling but the answer is really "it depends."

There are some absolutely amazing things about ESO. The combat is a lot of fun. I find the world aesthetic beautiful, despite its differences from the rest of the series. When it was working well, AvA could be some of the best PvP I've ever played. Imperial City was a good add on which, despite its flaws, came close to matching the promise this game showed.

And yet despite all those things I'm ultimately not satisfied with ZOS or what they've done to the series. They seemed to not understand what was good about their game and often ruined the best elements. Some very core decisions started them off on the wrong foot. Going with a theme park design was a mistake for an IP based on exploration and sandbox gameplay.

Were the stories pretty good? Ya. Were the zones open and interesting to explore compared to other sandbox games? Ya. But they still missed the very essence of what makes an Elder Scrolls game an Elder Scrolls game (Black Desert Online and Archage may have done a better job at capturing the "spirit" of Elder Scrolls without the accompanying lore.)

And all though they fixed this eventually, they spent the early part of development hiding from or running away from the most obscure and interesting parts of Elder Scrolls lore.

Despite this essentially failing to achieve the Elder Scrolls gameplay, I still played this game a lot and loved it for a while. Why? The Alliance War.

I basically figured, "hey this isn't Elder Scrolls with friends like they said it would be, but it is basically Dark Age of Camelot with an Elder Scrolls skin. Sounds good to me."

I loved the open-ish class and skills system, the hybrid action combat, and the siege wars. Sadly the slowly destroyed everything I liked about this aspect of the game. In no particular order:

    1. AoE Caps favored mindless zerging over skilled play
    2. Removal of forward camps and mercenaries also favored zerging over skill
    3. Class balance decisions seemed to follow only forum whining and not any sort of coherent evidence based strategy (repeated nerfs to Bolt Escape, nerfs to Templar right before launch, some needed nerfs to DK but they went overboard by a lot). Class balance went through ups and downs but was probably best balanced just before and just after launch, which is sad.
    4. Auto CC immunity without using CC-break favored unskilled play by rewarding mistakes and preventing effective skill based combos, making combat more dependent on gear/stats than player skill.
    5. General performance issues and bugs made Cyrodil difficult to enjoy in large battles the way it was meant to be
    6. Lack of dueling and arenas absolutely destroyed opportunity for competitive play

Ultimately ZOS seemed to give up on the idea that the game would offer compelling PvP, which had been a central part of their marketing. They never listened to feedback from the PvP community and instead catered to role players and to a lesser extent the raid crowd.

All of these things have turned me off of ZOS as a developer and Id have to be convinced pretty hard before giving them another chance. But since I want to be constructive here's what I'll say:

    1. Pick a vision and stick to it. Don't market the game to be everything to everybody or it will end up satisfying no body.
    2. Do NOT balance classes based on what's being whined about the most on the forums. You are giving power to the least knowledgeable and least skilled players in your game and it will drive people away. You think you're catering to your audience but you're actually destroying it.
    3. Don't start with a subscription. As you've probably realized by now, that model is dead.

Tl;Dr: this was never an elder scrolls game, but it was a fun PvP MMO before ZOS destroyed it.

I love the game, but I do feel the devs are a bit over their heads with this game. Seems for every one step fwd, we take two steps back.

I do honestly believe that at some point this game is going to become phenomenal, but I wonder how long it will take for the game's mgmt team to get things figured. I do not know if it is a greedy C-Suite, penny pinching fiscal types, incompetent programmers, or any combination there of, but something just isn't working and it gives me the impression it is a very inexperienced team.

Ultimately, ESO, and therefore any other potential ZOS titles, have tremendous potential. But at this time, no I would not buy another ZOS title.
