I didn't notice real distortions with the Breton Hero outfit. Anyone did? The way the coat goes straight down and hides the sides of this otherwise form-fitting costume can give that impression, but the armor behind the coat still looks okay on females. At least on my character (I could only test on one, I'm having problems with my internet).

It looks strange from the side if you have a flat belly - the coat is not behaving like a coat, but sticks to the body - unlike with a duster for example - and this makes the whole thing look absolutely weird, if you have chosen a flat muscular belly instead of a well fed one.

It looks small from the side and extra-wide from the front.

Is it just me but why is everything so skintight looking in this game? I agree with the the person starting this thread about chest area looking awful with some armors on females. But with is everything so tight looking? Can we please have some flowing robes that feel light and silky?

Because many clothing and armor items are just painted on char's model.
Its not really related to the issue we discuss in this thread since there are some costumes that arent skin tight but dont change characters shape. For example, this one:
    kxmmkM3.png

Yes, that pirate outfit is one of the better ones, it looks good on male and female characters. Your elven character looks gorgeous btw.

    Thanks! <3
And yeah, I really like that costume pack. I wish we had more outfits like these. :)

Oh, let me show you then. Here is how Morna normally looks:
    MornaOL2_zpsecetveac.png

And here she is in that infernal costume:

    BH2_zpsctaw2rzh.png
    BH1_zpsbrs4lrvj.png

So...suddenly she's bald, her chest is massively deformed, and the back of the coat, instead of falling gracefully from the shoulder, has bad static cling and sticks to her behind and the back of her legs. She's also apparently put on quite a bit of weight. If the coat fell in a straight line the way it SHOULD it wouldn't look weird but instead that made it bizarrely cling to her figure. Notice how it follows her curves? But those curves are wayyyy wider than they should be.

And all of this for 2,000 crowns? No thank you.

Ouch. After the dro-M'Athra was 4k Crowns I figured I'd skip the Hero costume for cost reasons...I didn't think I'd WANT to skip on the Hero costume.

Thing is, Zeni...my main is female. I play her the most, she's the one I get bored of seeing the same outfit on 24/7, and she's the one I dress up the most as a result. If the costume doesn't look good on her, I probably won't buy it.

That's beautiful reasoning. I think devs need to be reminded that we buy costumes and other fluff stuff because it looks pretty, not because it's limited/long awaited/hyped up. This is just so unfair to those who have beed waiting for this costume since launch... :|

I think there are 2 separate issues that are happening here that are treated as one.
For plate armor, I think it's okay that it doesn't really get skintight for boob shape, I actually enjoy that from this game.
Now for leather or cloth armor, it is true that the shape is wrong and should be fixed. I don't understand why they have fixed some armor and other new ones have the exact same mistake.

For those of you who have been following this thread, check out the Dev comments from @ZOS_JessicaFolsom (hallowed be her name!)! What has so appalled us with newer armor, namely the awful distorted look, that was attributed to Gina's statement that they were no longer making armor for female models and were merely "morphing" MALE armor to fit the female figure appears to not really be the whole story. Apparently that look we all find so awful is UNINTENDED and is now being investigated with an eye towards FIXING IT! HUZZAH!!! Many thanks to the ZOS team for taking this seriously and taking action even amid the debacle of "Cake Gate!" Though beleaguered already, they are doing the right thing here. Despite all my cranky snark! LOL So...MUCH APPRECIATED ZOS! GG!

UPDATE 7/18/16: Despite having said this distortion was "not intended" and would be fixed the only one I KNOW has been fixed is the Trinimac light chest. MANY armors remain horribly distorted. I'll post pics taken just yesterday below those already on here. I would like ZOS to tell us what is being done about this, an actual ETA on when this problem might actually be resolved for ALL armors and to assure us that no more NEW armors will have this flaw.

So here we have the last Light Armor you decided to do correctly, Ancient Orc:
    M1_zpsulqsmoky.png

And HERE is the Trinimac I was sooooo excited to get until I discovered that it looked like THIS:
    MornaTrin_zpsys0lkdpg.png

Am I the only one who thinks this looks absolutely TERRIBLE????

I already posted about being unhappy with these Light Robes:
    MRA3_zpsrh9klwuv.png
    MRA1_zpsik7smboq.png

    Pics taken 7/17/16:

    armEbonhartPactMedium_zps5kav27mh.png

    Curiass of the Night Mother

    armCuriassoftheNightmother_zpslyx5q1yv.png

On an up note, they HAVE managed to release some new armors that look right:

    Jack of Flanking

    armJack%20of%20Flanking_zps6fjrii0e.png

I was somewhat willing to concede that these last 2 do indeed look as if they have metal armor pieces as well which we might not expect to conform to the figure. However that is completely NOT the case on the Trinimac Light Robe which does indeed look as if it is composed entirely of fabric. WHY would you go to the trouble to design these beautiful armor sets and then make them look absolutely HORRIBLE on female characters? Just...WHY?

I am BEGGING you, PLEASE reconsider this terrible design decision wherein you simply "morph" the male designs to fit onto female character models. It's cutting corners in the most awful way. Truly, I cannot begin to express to you how unhappy this has made me. I feel like it is completely pointless to even try to get any future armor you put out. It may seem very silly to some people but this is literally "game breaking" to me. Because it looks SO BAD gear has now become pointless to me. PLEASE redo these robes to properly fit female character models and get it into an upcoming patch. PLEASE.

I'm going to quote this here since i think people don't bother reading. This is not about boob-shaped armor, this is a ZOS confirmed bug of bloated chests of the newer motifs' armors on both male and female characters. The bug applies to all kinds of armor - light, medium and heavy to a different extent.

We don't advocate for boob plates (at least not for many pages, this part of discussion has died out), we just want don't want obvious deformation to be there.

Hope it helps to clarify the situation.

You might want to read the OP then, which you clearly haven't. But thanks for the bump anyway.

Oh, i have. But honestly, when it's phrased as "i was glad to see this, but not this" it's left to me to try and figure out the issue, and honestly the only different i can really discern is the lining. the one you're happy about better shows off the characters body, and the exact shape of the bosom. but the one you're not happy with just goes down straight and not highlight the exact shape or close to it.

When i made my previous comment, i was trying to fish for a more defined explanation, i wasn't trying to dismiss it completely.

I just honestly still can't see the problem.I dunno I guess i prefer a Samus Aran approach over a Lara Craft. Or Captain Phasma.

If the costume doesn't look good on her, I probably won't buy it.

Yep, which is why I'm not buying the Breton Hero. If it looked good on my main, it would be exactly her style... but she's a curvy gal, and that bulge in the front of her chest looks neither like her natural curves nor like how armor would account for those curves. Instead, it makes it look like something she was massively allergic to stung the front of her torso and now it's swelling up. :/

I agree with you, but this isn't necessarily about the Samus Aran approach. Honestly, if it looked like how armor actually looks on girls (Generally? Form-erasing rather than form-enhancing), I'd like it more. Samus and Phasma are both known for looking like guys in their armor, because that's what breasts do in plate. They squish. I'd be happier if this costume were completely flat in front instead of the bulgy glob it currently is on the top. XP

The more i check whats going on with content/DLC/crownstore in ESO.. The more i start to feel it as MMO on a tight budget which just makes it poorly moving forward.

The female costumes are so poorly maintained.. Its like.. "hi designer.. How much u want to design armor for male and female? 2000! Ok take 1000 and design only male version....
Hi designer 2.. We have this male costume.. Make female version.. No we wont pay 1000 we pay you 20
Designer 2 pumps chest forward on free open source software and he's done...

I know that my example is weird.. But im pretty sure its close to how it goes in the office...

They make really hard choices when its about designing costumes such as "what shall i take with my morning coffee? A cake or a donut?"

I have so much armor sitting in my bank, bound of course so I'm pretty much stuck with it outside of just giving up and selling it to the in-game merchants, that I can't even us that it's just not even funny. And makes it impossible to get excited about new motifs coming out.

Also I'd really like to get pics of the Pact, Dominion and Covenant motifs recently released on the Crown Store. So please share those here as well.

Did you guys try the new two imperial costumes that were released today?

I'm looking for some screenshots. My internet is acting up and I'm unable to try them on my characters right now.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.

Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

This is why standardization and clear requirements are critical for any business to produce a consistent quality experience for their customers. Of course, then you need to enforce those requirements, but nothing should go out the door unless it has met the minimum standards.

With the state of these armors, and particularly the wide variance in quality, we can assume that at least one of the following is true:
    1. Whoever at ZOS is responsible for ensuring and enforcing quality is not doing so.
    2. ZOS just has really low standards of quality.

Either one is pretty bad, but it comes down to whether it's a problem with as little as one individual, or if it's an issue with company-wide policy. An individual not doing their job is something that can get fixed more easily than convincing the company to change their whole set of standards.

I did. They seem to fit very nicely. Loose in the right places, snug in the right places, good textures and design; not to mention they're reasonably priced (IMO). 500 should be the max for the average costume. Some should be less. The "hero" costumes should not exceed ten dollars. We're talking paltry little game additions here. When I've got to pay the same rates as a new game or an IMAX ticket, something has gone terribly wrong. :p

Did you guys try the new two imperial costumes that were released today?

I'm looking for some screenshots. My internet is acting up and I'm unable to try them on my characters right now.

They look really nice on my characters - the male one is even better looking on my female characters.

Dare we hope some more armors have been fixed with this update? I'll be checking my collection of terrible armors I can't currently wear. If anyone finds fixes, please screenshot and post them here!

Those 2 costumes actually look pretty decent. Here's screenies:

Its really weird that the quality is so inconsistent...

That's probably because they are using a few different templates to create new costumes, they just modify them, don't create completely new models.

There's the old template that fits a female body nicely, but is basically just painted on your character.

And then there's a newer template that's not just painted on, but it's screwed and doesn't fit right.

I am new to ESO but even I have noticed the distortion.

Also, there's so much clipping by weapons on all armour types! While I love the dye system, I do wish i could equip different pieces of armour, including drops, cosmetically. Then i could individualise my look and avoid the niggles; floating shoulders, hair removal hoods and cowls, staves that impale me, if the shoulders or hilt of my weapon hasn't. My mate hates it as much as I do. I don't think gender is an issue. It just really annoys some of us, sloppy design/QA is sloppy, whether it's on male or female, npc or pc etc. But since I can't avoid sloppy slip ups by cosmetically equipping armour pieces of my choice,

please fix the bugged template, asap.

I really enjoy the game by the way. But as a famous musicologist said at a bluesfest, while tuning up: "We tune, because you care." Should be the motto of every artist..and quality controller.
