That's a serious threshold, which would influence their sales.
It's even possible that they are not allowed by Sony and Microsoft.
PLEASE stop posting your endless nonsense in this thread, Pino.
Text chat would be optional, and keyboards are officially supported by Sony and Microsoft.

Please refrain from using caps for entire sentences and words. Then and only then will I beleive you should be allowed to type anything.

You wouldn't need to plug in a keyboard.

Anyways, people seem to think adding text chat would somehow harm the voice chat community.
Anyone who doesn't want to use voice chat is already not using it, they will never use it.

The people who do use it for Cyrodiil groups or w/e will continue to use it would still be the best communication option for group content.

So ZOS should print on the package of the box: keypad required.
    Nice for their sales.

If we all had a keypad then the context of use would change. TextChat would suddenly become probably a nice feature.

Unfortunately, most of us don't have a keypad. And there's no way, ZOS should force us to buy one.

You should be required to buy one if you plan on playing MMOs on consoles. These arnt single player games.
Playing MMOs on consoles is not a good experience because of the severe lack of communication from players. No one wants to spend all day typing something with a controller, so no one will.

    Greetings everyone,
We have removed several comments from this thread for derailing. Please continue to keep constructive comments on topic as well as keep the Community Rules in mind when posting on the forums. Thank you for your understanding.

Why continue? You guys are obviously doing absolutely nothing with the numerous threads of feedback on text chat. Why do you even let these threads grow to 14+ pages?

You really need to get a DEV on this forum responding to posts, like Ghostcrawler did over on WoW forums. Least we would know you guys give a crap.

Typing using the virtual keyboard is indeed a crime.

But there's no way ZOS will force the people to buy a keypad or keyboard.
    They will not do that.

We all should accept the reality of the gamepad. There's no way out. It's really a constraint blocking elegant solutions.

It's not easy to find a solution that's making sure...
    • we communicate better and more
    • we don't have to type too much (given the constraint called gamepad)

The poll shows one thing- there is a very large contingency of customers gat want a specific option for gameplay. It is the responsibility of a company to listen to and respond to its customers demands. It is not forcing anything on the entire community if it can be turned off or on as optional.

Hundreds of pages of posting on the topic. It's pretty clear the developer needs to do something other than prove they are to stubborn, disinterested or proud to care what people want from their game experience.

+1 for text chat like every good MMO that has ever existed

No, options are not necessary good, but good options are.

A good option is one that's used by a significant share of the audience.
A good option is one that's not influencing the gameplay and forcing the player to buy eventual extra hardware
A good option should also not break other functionality

Guys who want text chat are PC gamers converting to console for some unknown reason.

Stick to your keyboard and mouse guys!

I don't want annoying text on my screen it is not very immersive.

You will never have text chat on xbox one. Xbox is pushing mic chat and i agree with that.

You shy nervous pc people need to come out of your shell and start talking to real people. Everything in this world cannot be via text.

I'm on PS4, have barely done any gaming on PC ever, and I want text chat.

I am neither nervous or shy. I simply believe having both voice and text chat would enhance the game. Text chat could be an additional and optional feature which would cover the gaps and shortcomings of voice, and as an optional feature clearly it should have the ability to be minimized.

If they tested actual users with a TextChat prototype, then they probably filmed them.

If they did then they should show these films to us.

If we see that players are struggling with a gamepad when entering a text or see that shifting between keyboard and gamepad is a pain, we suddenly should better understand why TextChat might be not the solution.

It will not work out if they just say "It isn't that good". Actually they already did. Do you accept their words? Not really.

But a film would certainly convince you more.

    Democracy often elected bad people.

Even if 100% of the players demand a specific solution, it doesn't mean that solution is good or the best.

But you certainly have to listen to the requirement behind the solution:

    Please MTV, pimp my communication.

We don't need charts, graphs, footnotes, studies, or statements that all console users are noobs. This is an MMO. ESO dropped the ball on not including a Push To Talk option, and a text chat option.

Option. Option. How can ANYONE argue against an option, you can shut it off and ignore it to your hearts content.

    My 2.2 cents

Because it would become a damned STAPLE for those who don't want the feature....

They would be FORCED to view a chat text box and type in it to obtain w/e it is they are looking for...

If text chat came to consoles, people would stop using Voice Chat unless in a hardcore dungeon.

WTF are you gonna do? type LOOK OUT MASSIVE AOE INC, HOLD BLOCK...

by that time, your group is wiped, because your raid/group leader is scared to talk into a mic, and requested 100000 times on the forums to get a chat text box.

fight strats would become essays spread from one end of the text box to the other filling it up..

voice communication is the BEST option for calling out ACTIVE PVP plays...

leme type "look! a massive zerg is coming to the mill" "from what way" from the south no from the west... by all the time you type that CRAP out your group is overtaken, and no one survives....

GET OFF the Text Chat on consoles... its a foolish idea one that was phased out when the console game was released.

Stop being so angry. Voice for grouping, text in town. People won't stop using voice, that's a tad dramatic

I have to say one thing about all those threads their not 100 pages of multiple different people posting what they want its a handful of people arguing with NewBlackSmurf because he disagree with them and like what we have.Second this thread is where majority of post are by Pino. While am not trying to bash anyone and while I kinda agree with Pino here and also will like to mention if this one thing is keeping you from enjoying the game then it would have just been something else that would have mad you leave anyway It happens with every MMO.Their nothing different here if its not text chat it would have been whatever else that would have made you leave the game.So can we are just enjoy the game and instead of Spending all our time on the forums can we all play the game together.

Also why don't you all just form group with each other on the forums?Wouldn't that solve all of your problems?

You are just another one who doesn't understand context. Or at least just ignores it. You're not alone, it's one of the main reasons why so many usability flaws exist.

Most of us are typing the forum messages behind a pc, keyboard on a desk or table in front of us.
If we had to use the same keyboard while sitting in our couches, we would react less.
If we had to use the gamepad for creating replies, we would react less.

It’s just showing again and again that opinions about UI don’t work.

Pino. A broad question here to everyone. How many here own a PC or MAC? Something that Pino doesn't seem to know so is that you can plug any usb keyboard or use any Bluetooth keyboard with games consoles. This means that a large proportion of all console gamers have access to a keyboard without buying extra equipment.

Secondly FFXIV has no voice chat and it does not have keyboard required on the box because it isn't. I agree the game pad option is pretty terrible but it's there if you don't want to move your pc keyboard everytime. And FYI a Mac blue tooth keyboard can be connected to both the Mac and ps4. It will connect to wichever is on (though defaults to Mac if both are on)

MMOs are social networks. Such networks need more than only one voice channel per time.
Networking MMO people feel isolated in only one voice channel.
If people cannot communicate properly with friends and guilds, an MMO cannot prosper.

Sure many console players have a PC or a Mac (I've even both).

Doesn't mean they would all attach a keyboard to their console.

Many are not aware it's possible.

Some don't like to disconnect the USB cable from their PC.

And people like me had no need or desire to connect a keyboard. I had my first console in 1982 and I connected for the first time a keyboard to my console only 2 months ago.

I only did, because I have to create many in-game mails.

So even you are using a keyboard on console for in-game mails.
So even you need text communication because voice chat alone is not enough.
So why would an optional real time text chat hurt you in any way?
So why in your opinion is mail text good and chat text bad?

Pino I didn't know you could use a keyboard, until I played an mmo that had text chat and then I googled if you could as I didn't want to buy one of those chat pad things for the PS3. Just because they don't know now doesn't mean that text chat shouldn't be implemented.
