Console players how do you feel about having no txt chat?

We don't need charts, graphs, footnotes, studies, or statements that all console users are noobs. This is an MMO. ESO dropped the ball on not including a Push To Talk option, and a text chat option.

Option. Option. How can ANYONE argue against an option, you can shut it off and ignore it to your hearts content.

It doesn't? I played during beta and at launch and mostly played in Cyrodiil with ~20 person groups. Voice chat worked fine then, is it broken now?

It's really easy to argue against an option, even this one. A player who only uses voice wouldn't necessarily want other players using text chat because then it becomes difficult for them to communicate unless they begin using text chat during those situations.

I think text chat would be a nice addition, but that doesn't mean I have to be blind to the counter arguments. There are always different perspectives on every situation.

So the voice only guy gets to make my choice for me? Nope. options are the most democratic. The rest is "WAAAA I want it my way, you must do my way!"

    It's really that simple.

FYI, MMOs use different standards. How many MMOs did the 360 have? And did they have text chat? I'll give you a hint, 100% of all MMOs on the 360 supported text chat. In fact, ESO is the only MMO on Xbox that doesn't support text chat. Voice chat may be a standard but when it comes to MMOs text chat is standard as well.

Text chat is not annoying or a hassle on DCUO ps4.I find it quite easy to group for anything via text box. Also makes trading easy. Even when I'm pvping and my headset was broken, it was easy to text chat with pvp group. Sounds like people are arguing just to argue now.

Giving them an optional text box will allow them to easily chat quickly with others like them, and those that aren't so uptight about using both.

Why would an optional text box suddenly make you concerned about what others are chatting about when you never even communicated with them before a text box? If you are afraid that the people that are currently using voice will quit using it if they get the option to use text chat, then doesn't that mean that voice only isn't as great as some are making it out to be?

The people who would use text chat if it became an option are not exclusively people who don't use voice right now. As a voice chat user, it's frustrating when players refuse to use voice chat for coordinated group play. A game without text chat is less likely to breed those kind of players. The benefits of text chat outweigh that problem in my opinion, because I would just pass over those players, but I could certainly understand how someone could think it doesn't in their own opinion.

Grouping in this game without text ( damn) I have a mic and no offense to anyone but using guild chat and only having access to a few other players is a absolute joke especially since there are 16 vet ranks everyone is scattered in. Sorry I want my v16 drops. Grouping tool is also bad again doesn't group by Vr. no score card to help performance is also a issue. A faction chat would solve many problems for grouping. And having a mic in the instance is a no brainer. If someone won't use a mic kick from group like in all the other mmo problem solved .

I go back and forth between DCUO and this game.

When I get sick broken combat mechanics, laggy input controls, 1/2 second in block, 15 thousands CC effects and non-responsive breakouts. I come back here.

When I get sick of no text chat and a *** voice chat system I head back over to DCUO.

If I ever can get geared again in DC I won't come back here till Orsinium to check out the grouping tool updates if that still sucks I may have to find a new hobby.

How many times have you been in voice chat and heard an unrelated conversation between two or more people coming from one person's mic?

Now imagine you're one of the individuals who doesn't think everyone within range wants to hear everything that happens in your house. Many mics don't even have a mute button and it's not as simple as some don't own mics. It's that they might not always be able to use the mic for a myriad of reasons, yet they still want to do activities like search for a group.

I don't want annoying text on my screen it is not very immersive.

You will never have text chat on xbox one. Xbox is pushing mic chat and i agree with that.

Text chat isn't a new feature. As others have said it was a promised feature and is probably half coded already. Secondly of ripping text chat from a pc is wrong then rip from all the other console mmos since the ps2 that had text chat.

It would be a new feature in ESO - consoles.

Yes, some other MMO's on the consoles use TextChat. I still didn't see a nice working solution which is dealing the context of use of the average console player.

They all use a font size which is too small and not one is fixing the device shifting problem. The last is probably not fixable, unless you would use other modes of communicating as TextChat.

Oh there is demand for chat pads but they have yet to make a good one. Remember the chat pad for xbox 360 controllers?

Try playing any pvp or first person shooter on console with your chat pad sticking out of the controller. You don't have enough fingers.

Mouse and keyboard can do a ton of things at the same time. Anything else would be a joke for playing and typing chat.

I swing between my new Digital Storm gaming PC and my xbox one, So I get both perspectives.

My biggest question is why play on console? PC is better in every way except for the high cost of the system.

I would prefer this game on my PC but was gifted with a xbox one game.

    Peace to all !

WHY DO YOU POST WITHOUT READING THE THREAD BEFORE?

We ARE using voice chat, but: Voice chat only can handle ONE CHANNEL AT A TIME.
For dozens of friends and 5 guilds we need PARALLEL, MULTI-CHANNEL CHAT.
This is only possible with a text chat.

Examples why the current system does not work on consoles:
    - you are in 5 guilds but you only can listen to 1 guild voice chat
    - you are in a PVP/PVE voice chat and you cannot hear any guild voice chat
    - you are in a PVP/PVE voice chat and your friends cannot reach you in this voice chat

On consoles, ESO currently lives in a communication-stone age.
Having only voice chat is like using an old mobile phone without messaging.
Today, people are connected and need parallel, multi-channel text chat (WhatsUp, Snapchat etc.)
People want and need to subscribe to the text channels they NEED to read.

Would you buy a phone from the museum that only could do one telephone voice chat?

Not going to read this whole thread. To me it's a no brainer. Wireless bluetooth keybord only cost $20.there is no excuse. I mute everyone because I can't stand the screaming and noise.

So ZOS should print on the package of the box: keyboard required.

That's a serious threshold, which would influence their sales.

It's even possible that they are not allowed by Sony and Microsoft.

    They will never do that.

Instead of insisting all the players should use a keyboard, it would be better if you accept the reality that most console players don't use a keyboard while playing console games.

The gamepad is working as a kind of constraint. Your options of communicating are limited due this constraint.

However, they can make sure you can communicate with your gamepad properly. And they should also support you, the keyboard user.

They still don't do it properly with the existing functionality.

Ever used a keyboard in ESO when writing a mail?

    It's possible, but it's a pain:
    • You can't shift between recipient, subject and message by using the keyboard
    • When using a keyboard, often the focus is gone. You can't enter anything anymore. You can fix it and return the focus by using your...gamepad
    • You can't select, copy and paste text using your keyboard

Do people still not realize that there's Keypads for both the Xbox One(coming November) AND the PS4?
You wouldn't need to plug in a keyboard.

Anyways, people seem to think adding text chat would somehow harm the voice chat community.
Anyone who doesn't want to use voice chat is already not using it, they will never use it.

The people who do use it for Cyrodiil groups or w/e will continue to use it would still be the best communication option for group content.
