The thing is, I think the 'time to stockpile' is exactly the reason they AREN'T doing that. They want us to play the game longer, though why the time we spend doing that stockpiling shouldn't count escapes me. Maybe it looks bad from a marketing standpoint?

It gives us time to stockpile, but when orsinium comes out then it will increase the drop rates, giving folks a chance to catch up a little bit. It's about a good rate of increase and making it worth while to tempt us with v15 and v16 gear. If V17 and v18 gear costs more, then most may not bother when it comes or will horde until it comes out.

This is a good point. I didn't think about how Orsinium would affect this. Now that they have gone back on their word of not raising the Vet Rank cap, Orsinium opens the door for more Vet Ranks as well as new material types, etc.
It's not that I don't have a problem with them increasing the material amount to create the newer gear. I get it, MMOs are inherently a huge grind. It's just the rate at which they have done this with zero explanation on it that really bothers me. Along with the abysmal drop rate of the materials.
I'd like to see the statistics on how many characters will have full sets of v16 gear by the time Orsinium is released.

Unknown. Haven't heard anyone who has done it. You do get one ingot from weapon drops in IC or from bosses and mini bosses in scaled dungeons, but nothing has been stated whether stolen weapons and armor will scale to those levels or not.

There are no material nodes in IC (for any mats). And malachite doesn't have nodes either. That can only be found in chests
