I really can't share a demonstration video of what I'm about to tell you here (again because I'm sitting at 30,000 feet), but please do me all a favor:

As soon as I say the word "GO!", do the following...

    1. Push back from your desk.
    2. Get out of your chair.
    3. Go to your kitchen.
    4. Heat up some green tea. Do so by taking a packet of green tea and placing it in a mug. Then boil some water using a stove.
    5. While the tea is being prepared, take 5 deep breaths. Do so by inhaling through your nose as much as you can. Hold for a count of 3, then exhale through your mouth. Place one hand on your belly and another on your chest. Your chest should inflate more than your belly.
    6. When water is boiling, pour water into mug. Let sit for a few minutes, then remove packet.
    7. Drink the tea you just made.
    8. Go sit back down in your chair.
    9. Ask yourself, "Do I really want to post this?"

Result: Less offensive posts, leading to a better and more civil discussion.

    Ready?

    GO!

ZOS doesn't deserve civil posts when they keep telling us bold faced lies.

They deserve for their game to fail, their company to fold and everyone be laid off, and then sit long and hard and think about what they did to end up on unemployment.

ha ha lol all that because if you want min maxed gear you got to refarm it jesus christ get some perspective. you win the prize for drama queen of the day
    .warning-dramaqueen1.jpg

I don't even have minmaxed gear. my highest character is VR13.

my complaint is that they tell us they're dropping VR's, and then add more. That's straight up lying to your playerbase at this point. They deserve to lose everything and be used as an example of what NOT to do as a developer for that.

Why are they increasing VR to 16 if there's no new content added ? What is the point except sell the XP pots ? Do they think we're that dense ?
You? Yes you are that dense. They already have pots working with the champion system. They are available ingame so adding doesn't mean they will make more money.

Of all the things that bother me (mostly "everything for a limited time" crown store whale milking), this probably bothers me the least.

Please answer me, what the hell difference does it make if you are veteran level 16, or level 75?

You have to get new gear either way. This is true with expansion level cap raising in ANY game. The numbers are purely cosmetic; it literally means NOTHING whether it is level 75 or Veteran 16 or Taco 43. It is a meaningless designation of rank.

People obsessed over the removal of veteran ranks have yet to give me a single decent argument as to why.

The best I can think of is that they want cross-faction zones where you can flag as PVP and each faction has its own UNIQUE quest hubs, instead of the Cadwell Time Warp, and I would like this too. I just don't think ZOS wants to invest the money in that sort of overhaul.

Not when people are willing to throw money at mount skins to "support the company." Where is the incentive to EARN out loyalty?

I would LOVE to be a Taco 43!

Seriously though I'm new to ESO being on Console and all, but I'm VR1 and don't see much issue. I wasn't there for the great 12 month content drought many talk about but you weathered through that so honestly how is 2 VR all that bad?

It's more the point that the last thing we heard from ZOS a few months back was that they were planning on literally phasing out the VR. Now we hear they are increasing the VR cap. Just another lie. Another betrayal...

Well, in ESO live they did say it's a LONG term goal.. so they still want to..

@MissBizz So continue to build upon a flawed, extremely unpopular concept only to remove it years down the road? Which is a direct waste of development dollars. Sorry, I don't buy that.

Well, @nastuug I'm not going to argue you. I definitely didn't say I thought it was smart lol. It does seem super weird to add more when it's said they want to get rid of them.

They realize they need to add content. I think everyone does. But new content without advancement is also self-defeating. And taking the VRs out is a big deal. So... this.

Advancement can exist without additional levels in the form of new and useful items, consumables, sets, etc.that only drop in the new content areas. That's enough to give people that feeling of meaningful advancement. That's the way to do it without making your playerbase feel like you've just handed them a steaming pile of sh*t and told them it was delicious candy.

So these new items consumables and sets would all be VR14? Of the same power level that we already are? And you'd be OK with that? Seems more than a bit unlikely to me.

Also why the damn rage if the changes don't even affect you I have 2 v14's. one of which i just finished getting gold morag tong and ravager on and my panties aren't in a bunch.

Because it does affect me. VR's drove my friends off. So if I want to continue playing this game, I have to do so alone, meanwhile they want me to play other games with them instead, which is basically what I do right now.

It is lying also, to do one thing and then do the complete opposite thing. You say it's a stopgap, I see it as getting people further entrenched in the VR system to the point where people are SO invested in it that they cannot remove VR's and they completely wash their hands of any plans to remove them, which ultimately would be a flat out lie to their customers and they'd get away with it. Already having moved the VR from 10-14, there are a number of people like you who are invested in the system and would be just as vocal and angry as the people who don't l;ike VR's and want them gone, and would be just as much up in arms when that system you've invested time into is taken away, that number grows each time they raise the cap more, to get more people invested in the system.

Had they left the cap at VR 10 and just focused on getting the CP system out asap, they could have removed VR's a lot more smoothly by now, because there wouldn't have been the gear powercreep that we've had since. You wouldn't have felt like you were losing as much if it was just 1 gearset that was getting bumped down to 50.

But now it's going to be several gear sets, the gear set you had to make at VR10, the gear set that you had to make at VR12, the Gear set you had to make at VR14, 16, and however many other raises they do, if they take all that away from you, you feel like you lost so much more effort.

So they're lying. They're going to get everyone so invested into VR's that they won't want them to go. Then they'll think they're clever and announce they're not going to remove them afterall.

Those liars deserve to crash and burn hard. They certainly don't deserve patronage from the customers they lie to.

    Hey everyone,

We'll talk more about the the Veteran Rank increase, including the newly added benefits and vision behind doing so, when we start going into specifics about Imperial City later this month.

Would this by chance have anything to do with the "PvP Seasons / Gear Tiers" concept that was mentioned way back at Quakecon 2014?

Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

    Meh.

I stopped leveling all my alts a long time ago. Grinding through 14 veteran ranks just to be able to play that character in endgame scenarios is not feasible to do 8 times. Even though the total exp needed to reach V16 will be slightly lower than before, I don't see how this will convince me to play again. Gear is already incredibly cheap, so that's not an issue for me. The issue is I can't even wear all the high level gear I have on most of my characters because the grind is so mind-numbing and pointless. This is especially disheartening when you said not so long ago that you want to remove level gates from the game. Yet, here again we get more gating.

I realize you want to do it right when you remove Veteran Ranks, but it should have been an absolute priority over a year ago after launch when the mass exodus happened once everyone reached VR1. This increase also leaves a bad taste in our mouths because considering the new EXP potions, it seems unlikely you'd do away with the veteran grind and cut into your own revenue.

Public dungeons have never been used for exp. I'm not sure even a 100% increase will be enough to make them viable spots.

I still play GW2 and I'm pretty happy they're not raising the cap, and providing a horizontal advancement system.

I played this because I like the TES universe, I like the combat style (though it does have its issues), the crafting system, and the economy system being guild based, and I like the dungeons better because people at least have different roles aside from 5 dps characters steamrolling a dungeon.

But ultimately it seems just like other MMO's with ever increasing treadmills, eventually I just get bored and stop playing them because the ILLUSION of progression doesn't work for me. I know full well it's an illusion, not actual progression.(mobs your level are always going to be roughly just as difficult, if not more difficult as you get higher level, so you really haven't progressed).

    It's a real shame GW2 doesn't have good dungeons/group PVE.

Because it makes it completely optional for you if you want to replace your old gear for the new set. That's the difference here. When they introduce new ranks like this, everyone's forced to trash their old set.

Ok, guys, I know we all have opinions, and I know a lot of folks don't like the idea of Veteran Rank 16 (or Veteran Ranks at all), but holy crabapples. I feel like I'm in the River Styx...which is a far cry from the 30,000 feet I'm sitting at right now.

They deserve to lose everything and be used as an example of what NOT to do as a developer for that.

what they said was they are still removing them but its not straight forward. they said this is a stop gap until they have a system to replace vr thats not just vr under a different name. so I ask you who's lying? because the only one i can see is you claiming they have lied.

So they haven't lied as they haven't washed there hands of it. If they had of got rid of vet ranks at 10 what would we have been doing since launch with no gear to chase or character advancement?
Also if your friends couldnt level 1 character to max level maybe mmo's aren't there thing and judging by your reaction to this news dare I say it maybe not yours either.
you imply that I am entrenched in the VR system and that I would be annoyed if it got removed this is not the case. I wouldn't be bothered as long as I had some other way to progress my character and enough content to do it. which is something that all of you VR removal zealots dont seem to be able to grasp this game has aprrox 24 hours gameplay from 1 to 50. if your character stops progressing where is the incentive to do any of the other things where's the challenge. I have yet to hear an explanation from the ppl kicking off of how they would achieve this today.
also you use false logic as i clearly will have already deconned those earlier sets so am not bothered. Also the vr system did more to cap power creep then the cp system would of first v10 then at v12 and until recently at v14 now with cps the cap gone and real power creep is happening all the time. I guy was on the forums earlier with 1000 cp.

Just to re iterate as you seem to have missed it they never said they wouldnt add more vet ranks as far as anyone knows and they have stated this they are still going to remove them. therefore they have not lied

Ok, what happened? What's with this whole "Veteran Rank 16" craze about? Did QuakeCon already occur or did I just fall asleep?

With how this thread is proceeding you'd have thought you awoke in hell.

Seems more than a bit unlikely to me.

new unique set bonuses you can't get anywhere else?

That function on the same stats? And how is that different than having to upgrade armor and such for a new level? That new gear will have to be upgraded also. And if it's so much better than the old armor, then it's not really balanced, right?

All I really care about is getting new content- if this is a gateway to doing so, then I'm willing to go along. And I *still* say that VRs are scapegoats for everything that people see wrong with the endgame, when taking them away will cause more problems than they solve. There are other ways to fix the perceived downfalls.

But it's much easier to think that after VRs are removed there will be rainbows and blue skies than to really look at those downfalls.

Because it makes it completely optional for you if you want to replace your old gear for the new set. That's the difference here. When they introduce new ranks like this, everyone's forced to trash their old set.

again false logic if you would not be forced to trash that gear why would you be forced to trash this gear?

    /begin rant

Honestly, more levels means more loot, means more skill points, means more progression, means more content. I am okay with this. This is a MMO, this is what MMOs do. If it were a single player game, you wouldn't have levels, but mods that would increase content/skills/loot/etc. The only difference here is that you have to work to become "better". Once again I am okay with this and have no issues with ESO increasing veteran rank.

    However

I would have preferred that ZOS focus on all the myriad bugs, glitches, imbalances, and sheer...weirdness...that some aspects of the game evoke, prior to increasing level cap. I mean...we have only just had the game come out on consoles, and the buy once play forever model was only recently opened to the community at large.

Let's settle for a bit, fix bugs, and allow the game to come into its own...say give it a year of nothing but bug fixes, THEN do the level cap increase.

I can't even get mail in a timely fashion yet, and the auction houses are...insane? is that the right word?

Veteran rank increases at this point in time just doesn't feel like the right thing to do...when the game still feels like it has so many bugs that could be patched.

Now, if the veteran rank increase comes with a massive sweeping fix of the backlog of bugs, then sure, increase ranks.

    ./end rant

TLDR: VR16 is cool, but please fix bugs first.
This is where an image would be if I were allowed to have an image in my signature...

Its already hard to find a vr 14 group these days and they wann add more disparities between player.

I taught the plan to remvoe vet rank was to allow mor eplayers to play together in pve and remove the lvl disparity. And now they add 2 more 1 million level GG zenimax Cp system , more VR , sold for cash xp potion and no new content . GG

We've played a lot of MMO's, this is the first one that we can agree that we LIKED but have not gotten to cap in because #1. Extended solo questing beyond anything in any other MMO. I mean for a launch MMO this game has solo questing to cap that takes 3x longer than most other MMO's aside from defunct Korean MMO's and FFXI where you actually had to just grind in a group to progress, and #2. Even after you complete all the quests you don't reach the cap without repeating content.

Other MMO's we haven't reached cap in? Well they've been such trainwrecks that we decided we just didn't like them (Age of Conan, TERA (well TERA wasn't a trainwreck so to say it just had really uninspired questing)

Everything else.. we get to cap, we do dungeons, raids, PVP. But we prefer to play as a group, and with this game's phasing, grouping while questing just didn't work out very well. We don't play MMO's to solo quest for hundreds of hours.
