It's a options that I believe is not needed it's not a options that is needed like damage numbers something that's need more attention and have bigger impact on the game then text chat but I see hardly any of you their asking for something that is more desperately needed then text chat.AaronLannister wrote: »

I am most active for two things to be added to ESO. Text Chat for consoles, and a better UI info all around. Feel free to check my discussion history on that.
However, even with a better more informative UI without the ability in game to communicate and reach more players, playing at that time, the best UI will not matter. If I had to choose only one I'd chose text chat, even though lacking native timers for DOTs and buffs frustrates me to no end. Because at the end of the days I want an MMO which smoothly functions. I look at FFXIV and Warframe (though WF is not an MMO) for example and I see how much better those function in a communal sense because of text chat. That is what I want for ESO to function better as a community. That is the heart of an MMO, and ESO on console lacks a vital component needed to organize and maintain that heart.

LOL absolutely not, Text Chat is absolutely needed it's a Social Aspect, and the Dev's have already stated Grouping and also Socializing is what they want to encourage, they have completely failed to do so because they didn't add Text Chat in consoles.
No they have not you can find a group and socialize with voice chat.Just because it's not the way you want to socialize doesn't mean you can not socialize in ESO.
I never said you can't socialize, you're just purely discriminating against people who want Text Chat and claim it isn't necessary when it is and it's proven that it makes games more Social.
There are too many disadvantages already pointed out when it comes to Only Voice Chat.
because you don't want people to have to option of in game text chat which has been stated many times is a much better way of Socializing in MMO's then just all Voice Chat.2 -

I would say that hypothetical situation is impractical. Also simply googling MMO no text chat brings up multiple links with discussions on several different sites about ESO having no text chat on consoles. It's not an issue isolated to the eso flagship forums.

I said google 'MMO no text chat'. It shows that on many sites people are discussing ESO's lack of text chat as a negative. I never said anything about polls.
Have you ever tired to sell anything over voice. It rarely works for anyone I've talked because it gets drowned out by what everyone else is saying. You cannot literally type over someone else, but talking over them is very easy.
Also I want to run a dungeon, so I can either move around place to place hoping to find someone who can hear me and wants to do the same. Again the talking over you point applies. Or If we had text chat I could LFG the area and reach more people. The same thing applies to Guilds. With text I could type into Guild chat that I'm LFG, instead of trying to bounce around several Guild Voice Chats hoping someone is in them.

You clearly have not thought about how this situation impacts others, you think this isnt a option worth adding? Well i completely disagree there are a range of reasons why this should be added for people with speach impairments, social anxiety and hearing impairments. as it stands right now Voip is %100 useless to me as i have very little hearing effectively cutting me off from the ingame community. I have absolutely no idea why you are so fervently against this i cant imagine 1 way having a text box would negatively affect this game. It would be a optional tool you would not have to use it if you Don't want to so really why would you care?

The issue is about how do you set those runs up. Since you are only able to be in one chat at a time your ability to speak with others is limited. You cannot be in both Guild Chat and Area Chat for example, making simultaneous communication across multiple venues impossible.1 -

I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. There have been multiple threads about it, but keeping it contained to one reduces forum clutter. It also centralizes discussion to one place. This way players or Devs from that matter only have to look through one thread rather then multiple. However which narrative is true is debatable.1 -

If it's truly to reduce forum clutter then why has there never one been another thread on any other hot issue reduced into one thread? There have been other smaller issues that they limit to one thread, saying it's to "more easily read feedback", but those issues always vanish after 2-3 weeks, and I have a feeling they knew they would vanish if ignored for a while since they were minor issues.

This text/console discussion is the only larger subject matter thread that they are doing the the "single thread" thing with. This leads me to think that they think this issue will fade away like everyone other "single thread" issue they've enacted if they ignore it long enough. The only problem is that this issue turned out to be bigger than they thought, hence why it's over 80 pages now.
Still, the fact there has been no developer acknowledgement at all since before page 10 (if I recall correctly) really shows they still think that the single-thread-ignore idea that worked so well for those other threads will still work on this thread/desire if they ignore us long enough.

I think text is easier to hide behind. So I'll just go on my merry way. I'm not really interested in being involved in a toxic thread that I'm surprised (after reading it in it's entirety) is not locked.
Oh well, back to the game where the fun is happening!

Which is also a reason why text chatting is still a pervasive form of communication in real life. Hence the reason why these forums exist is not to communicate through VOICE. But through Text.

That's great for you, but wait till you get up in the VR levels & you end up sitting around for hours & days on end trying to get groups for dungeons & craglorn quests with no luck. Then tell us how "great" the lack of text chat is ....

I'll just do guild runs using voice chat like I do in every other mmo I've ever played .

The issue is about how do you set those runs up. Since you are only able to be in one chat at a time your ability to speak with others is limited. You cannot be in both Guild Chat and Area Chat for example, making simultaneous communication across multiple venues impossible.
Sound like a non issue imo.
Having said that, I would like to bow out of this "discussion" for now. Thanks for reading my thoughts.
I'll just leave with my final thought (ala Jerry Springer).
My experience in game has been extremely positive (using voice chat has so far been really pleasant. Joined a guild, yada-yada... met some folks & friended etc.) but after reading this thread (text based) I'm a little concerned about the quality of the community here in this game. I think text is easier to hide behind. So I'll just go on my merry way. I'm not really interested in being involved in a toxic thread that I'm surprised (after reading it in it's entirety) is not locked.
Oh well, back to the game where the fun is happening!

You are more than welcome to your opinion. However it's been my expeirence that not being able to communicate to across multiple venues at once (Guild, Open World, Party, etc.) is stifling to the growth of an MMO's community. So while it may be a non-issue for you, it's not for others.
People are going to be crass and rude whether they are doing it text or through voice. Those with a desire to do if will. Anonymity might facilitate it but whether through text or voice they will still be projecting from behind a screen name. However let's face it, if it was an issue it's not like the user or users could not be held accountable.0 -

Let me be clear, @NewBlacksmurf I HAVE READ ALL OF THOSE ALREADY. I have even posted in them. I am asking what you see that is anti-voice. give me an example. anything. I already read them. and i pm'd because i thought you would link something you have not linked or others have not linked before. Im sorry if i do not see what you do as anti-voice, you have your bias, i have mine.
Of course there are people who agree with you. thats not on the table here. I wish they felt comfortable enough with these threads to comment themselves, but we both know they would be flamed.

Let's assume you're asking what defines anti-voice chat.
A: Players who will utilize voice chat only if it's the only choice but otherwise want text chat and if added will default to text chat as this is their preferred method of in-game communication.
This also is a group who will party chat outside of the game but for in-game their primary method of cummunication is text chat.
This group also has those who play this game solo only and do not wish to talk to anyone via voice chat or text chat.
People who do not like or want to use voice chat or who often times say they feel forced to use voice chat because they would rather text chat primarily or all the time.

That type of comment can fall into name shaming. Which happens to against the code of conduct...I have generalized because that is allowed in the code and I began sharing threads that involve conversations about ppl who are anti voice chat.
Secondly...naming or providing you with a list does nothing but throw those people under the rug for some thread they don't want to be a part of.
And again as I've wrote now a few times...please specify exactly what it is you're claiming that I can't back up.

I feel that I've provided information...real info from either the company or from in-game experiences and forum threads that support my opinions. I've also comments in that opinion with facts from Zenimax.
From you, all I see is an opinion based on a small group of other opinions where you're then claiming that that small sample size somehow is a majority and that's why your opinion should be addressed by Zenimax in this thread even tho it's been addressed a few times on ZOS live.

We have no actual proof of the size of either group. There is no data on the numbers who want it, don't want it, or don't care. So, yea, I see this statement as wrong.

Because I love ESO, and these forums are in text.
I have S.A.D. (Social Anxiety Disorder). (Yes, I know I shouldn't share this with internet "freaks".)
So, I don't like to HAVE to wear my headset, and verbally communicate with people all the time.
Before I play I take a look at my friend's list to see who else is playing.
And, if there are a lot of my "friends" in the game at the time, and I am not in the mood to talk verbally, I just don't log in.
Because as soon as friends/guildmates see a person log in they usually send a PSN Message, or ingame mail, saying something like; "party chat", or "guild chat".
I am an honest person.
But, sometimes I just have to lie and reply with "my headset is charging".
I HATE LYING!
And, I can't use that excuse all the time.
So, instead of lying to people, I just don't play as much as I would like to.
I have played MMORPGs going back as far as the Ultima Online Beta.
Text Chat has served me well.
The option to use text chat in this game would allow me to play it much more than I currently can.
