So far playing a new character the worst thing about no chat is trying to get people to do world bosses. At least dolmens make a loud sound and people flock. Obviously trade will be even worse as players level.
End the tedious inventory management game.

What about the ONLY (and I do mean ONLY) sensible option of having both Text Chat and Voice Chat as viable options on all platforms.

    All The Best

No. The only thing to do is for the ppl who want to text, go play the pc version.

    Regards.

I predicted this reaction weeks ago when it was announced that console would launch w/o text chat.

I would like to thump my chest and say "I told you so", but honestly it brings me no satisfaction. As a PC player, I want console to do well. I want every facet of the game to be a financial success in order to generate revenue for new content on both platforms.

This was depressing when it was announced, and the predictable reaction is depressing.

The most depressing thing about it is the fact that this reaction was so predictable. Some of the decisions over at ZOS really make me shake my head sometimes.

Launching an MMO w/o text chat is like selling a luxury car w/o power windows. Seriously ZOS.

I agree with adding text chat for several reason. For one voice chat tends to add more latency on the players side and being that's currently the only form of communication it makes the lag appear worse. Especially to those who have anything less than a cable connection. Not to mention the fact that voice chat isn't as easy to filter vs text chat. So you tend to get a lot of unwanted communication or people bogging down you connection with senseless garbage(ie. someone streaming music over their mic).

Text chat may not be as quick to output information but its effective uses should not be overlooked. I've seen a FTP MMO, purposely update the UI to make text chat more easily available due to the lack of socialization. They also had strict mic communication and it turned out that wasn't enough to allow players to effectively communicate. I think one of the underlining problems is that people don't like the lack anonymity that voice chat provides. Therefore their less likely to want to use it.

IMO voice chat is almost too effective to the point its more annoying than useful. Although it's defiantly more effective in group settings where you have to quickly change tactics where visual cues won't suffice. Having two forms of communication thought would defiantly balance out the pros and cons of both. So please do consider it Zenimax.

I agree completely . Another thing that could be seen a mile away was how the console players will start asking for basic built in UI features. The same features that the PC players had access only from add-ons and had asked to be added in the game for a year.

I love how everyone is saying "go on the forums, go on this website, that website" .......not everyone wants to constantly be logged into their PC/laptop when they are playing a CONSOLE game just to find people to play with. That is inexcusable. Plus...not everyone is spoiled enough to have a computer at their convenience at all times.

I did not play the consol beta. However, I could not in my wildest dreams think that this game would be relesed without a text based communication including what was talked about: Area voip etc. So before I got the game downloaded on my ps4, i went and bougth a keyboard. Guess how I felt when I logged on and found out there were no text chat at all..

I mean, common.. Please let me turn off area voip in such a way it wont turn it self on when i log back on. I'm not interested in listening to the dog bark, or feedback from someones tv beeing to loud, or someone eating while playing. There was one guy, the baby was screaming constantly in the background, and People were yelling. This isnt exactly gamers comfort imo.

without text chat the game feels just incomplete to me, it has more negatives than positives.
hope they will adress it, for now its ok but the missing communication option is something that will my friends and me stop playing at some point.

Developers are sort of overestimating the amount of people who use mics when gaming. Between preset chats(DBXenoverse and just having no chat whatsoever unless you're in a group or something(Destiny), it--to me--ruins the social aspect of gaming. Most people don't even like using mics for fear of being harassed or just feel indifferent about it all together.
That, and it's just easier to communicate(in a way) and organize things.
    1. Open Chat box
    2. Read
    3. Someone's trying to organize a siege
    Boom. Done.
Granted, there is spam but, that can be confined to the trade channel and such. Either way, it's easier than dealing with several people talking over eachother on their mics and half the time it's unclear what they're even saying because of the noise traffic or just overall static from quality.

There are ways still to communicate on your console with players. It would be nice to have a text chat cause it removes an annoyance.

Other thread was locked so I'll put my comment here.

Text box works so well for identifying:

    -who the person is
    -what chat they are in
    -understanding them the first time
    -scrolling back to review conversations
-right click menu for adding them to whatever, ignoring, friending, grouping, etc...
-private conversations without having to switch channels (super cumbersome)
-being open to all conversations while only responding to the one you want

Voice chat will never be able to be as elegant as the chat box for all of these things.

Voice chat is way more effective at getting information across fast, especially in a group setting, and for casual fun/goofing around with friends.

Both text and voice are required/desired in an mmo setting, and trying to stuff a square peg in a round hole, or a round peg in a square hole will meet with the exact results we are seeing today.

Strange that they would consolidate it into the shortest thread.

But I digress, an optional text chat box has been successfully implemented in console MMOs over a decade old; it seems far simpler to add the text chat box that already exists in code than to go through a laundry list of tweaks just to have a system that is still less elegant than just typing what you want to.

Sales, recruiting, grouping, and a number of other issues could be easily resolved by the addition of the text chat box and would circumvent the archaic and, quite frankly, entirely unacceptable need to visit third-party websites and forums just to utilize the systems in the game.

ZOS is already slated to add VC to the PC version of the game, allowing players to communicate both through text and voice for the situations where each is strongest.

Console players should also have this versatility and not be railroaded into a lesser Elder Scrolls experience simply because of the medium they choose to play the game on.

We ALL play ESO, and while there are some great things about ESO on consoles, there are also some deficits to the experience due to clumsy handling of certain staples of the game, such as guild recruitment, finding non-dungeon player groups (Cyrodiil, world bosses, tough quests, etc that the group finder is inadequate for), selling of wares outside of guild kiosks, etc.

Those who wish to continue to use only VC can continue to do so and use the same methods that they are preaching to others currently as workarounds for these clunky systems, and those who wish to remain in-game and not play a console game while tied to a laptop, PC, or tablet in order to fully utilize the in-game systems can use a text chatbox.

    Everybody wins.

No text chat for consoles. there is the same amount of spam, negative remarks etc etc in text chat as there are in vc. Too many 'expert typist' having 2000 wpm convos (along with the lfg lfg wts wtb wtb, best prices for ESO gold around yada yada) in text, is not wat the console master-race ppl want. Stop wat ur doing, scroll up and up and up then go to reply to something u want to respond to, only to find the convo has changed 20 times since :/

Make friends, group up, join a guild, and use those voice chat channels if area chat bothers u that much..on the console. lots of kool gamers rollin PS4 and voice chatting, wanting to have fun and roll this

Before the 'there's text chat channels for the lfg, wts/wtb' peeps chime in...we all know just how well ppl abide by using the proper channels :/

PC has text chat, not sure why ppl bother to get the console version knowing text was not a option, then complain? :/ It was known in enough time before the 9th that text for console was not available.

I hate fp view, so I don't buy cod etc and complain about no 3rd person view available....I just buy a game with 3rd person view and roll.

Okay, I came here from a thread with a very good reason text chat should be in the console games: There are deaf players. There are players with speech impediments. There are players with social anxiety. There are players who are physically unable to use voice chat.

So saying it doesn't belong on consoles is saying these players do not belong in the game.

Nothing you just wrote helps the situation for selling wares or grouping up for non-dungeon content in the least. There are a number of in-game systems that are entirely obtuse to actually use in-game, and that is an issue.

What a silly example, considering that this was an entirely 3rd person game before players complained about no 1st person view being available, and ZOS was wise enough to add it prior to launch for those who enjoy that style of gameplay. And the game has been much better for it, as it allows BOTH walks of life to enjoy their time in-game.

That's all that we are asking for here, a way that players of BOTH preferences to enjoy their time in-game, especially in light of how wonky the systems that were originally designed w/ text chat in mind have become w/out it.

What? I thought the whole draw of playing on consoles was so that you could sit in your easy chair in front of your TV and then set up a PC on your coffee table to supplement your console experience and make it 50% as effective as the PC version of the game?

In all seriousness I don't get why people are defending this. There are some things not suited for voice chat and having text chat in addition to vc in no way takes away from those who want to just disable text chat entirely. Selling items, recruiting, organizing with others across a zone (world bosses, pvp etc..), passing along stats of an item and the list goes on and on.

Why should they have bought a game on a console that says no text chat, only to have it added when it's already in place and working on the same game, different platform?

As of now they are not missing out on anything chat wise....add text, and they will be missing out on some. That's not fair to them. He's a player that cannot physically read text.

    What is the issue?

Adding text chat for those who wish to use it does not in any way cause all of the voice chat implementations to cease to exist.

And honestly, if they can do well enough to play this game while legally blind, they should be more than capable of utilizing the text chat if they DO want to, or simply NOT use it at all and nothing will have changed from their current experience.

Again, PCs will soon (tm) be capable of using BOTH text chat and VC. Why do you want console gamers to be left behind simply because you prefer to only use one avenue of communication that you can STILL continue to solely use? : /

You're missing the point here. Your friend would be missing out on some, but they would not be blocked from all communication the way people unable to use voice chat are here. There is no reason people should not be able to choose what suits them and their situation best.

You seem to be trying to speak for all console gamers.

Yet, I and many others in this thread are console gamers and have expressed our interest in text chat.

So clearly you do not actually speak for console gamers. In the future, you should probably limit your voice to just yourself, since that's literally the only person you are honestly speaking for.
