The problem with your posts is that you never are open to options, you just spew your opinion and that it. Text Chat should be optional and why you continue to fight this is what pisses people off when reading your replies.
Without going into the marketing BS, the act like you know what ZOS is doing, and the long drawn out posts that go so far off of what you replying to....how about you just answer this.
Why would it be so bad if they included text chat, that you can minimize or turn off, like EVERY other MMO console does in the ESO console release? Simple, why is that option bad?
Now hold on a second there, thats not true at all.NewBlacksmurf wrote: »In response to your comment:

The ps4 beta suffered alot due to no text chat.
I had to go physically to the dungeon entrances and invite people to groups because you can't use any chat from other zones to group up.
What people are ignoring is the zones and instances.
If you are in daggerfall and someone is in a near by town, and in different instances, how are they supposed to see the canned chat? it isn't broadcast that far.
LFG text would be easier because i could simply type "lfg spindleclutch" where as in canned chat and voice i can't.
Also voice chat was messy in towns, people blaring music down the mic in close proximity, when we were in a group a guy did nothing but mouth breathe, play music and shout at his kids....... times this by 100's more players in release its going to suck.
Like i say the ps4 beta suffered - it felt like single player game at times.

There was a poll on this very forum regarding this very subject, 60% of people yes they wanted text chat, 27% of people said no they didn't want it and 12% said they wouldn't even bother because it has no text chat.
Thats more then double the amount of people saying yes to text chat.
And personally play both DCUO and FFXIV on my ps4, use text chat all the time, I got no issue with people NOT wanting text chat, but obviously, there is a very large amount that do, and it should be an option for those that want or need to use it.
There is nothing to lose by adding text chat and where as there is stuff to gain, namely player happiness.
The people who WANT it will be happy because its there available to them, the people who don't want it can simply turn it off and lose nothing in the process.
Text chat opens up avenues to help players, the LFG tool isn't always gonna be a viable option, when you can't find people using the tool text chat helps with that, instead of physically running around different zones yelling on your mic, asking if anyone wants to do City of Ash, you can just stay where you are and ask it in chat bothering anyway.
Not everyone willing to do some group activity is using the LFG tool at that moment, I'm sure anyone who has played an mmo has just been keeping to themselves doing some random quest when someone has asked in chat if anyone wants to do some grouping and thought to themselves "Oh I could help this guy out" or "Oh I was gonna do that later but I could get it done now."
And what about proximity chat in towns? What if you are going to do some crafting or buying or just wanna go to town cause you gotta find people using voice chat and there are loads of people talking, I wasn't in the beta but even the couple streams I watched always had people arguing in town or yelling at their kids or eating real loudly, gonna be great having to mute a bunch of people everytime you walk into a hub area.
Someone was talking to me about the beta through messages, this is what they had to say.The ps4 beta suffered alot due to no text chat.

just as TESO for PC still has text chat for the game release in 2014 but for the 2015console versions, the voice chat is the direction its taking.
The console market is ever-changing.
Specific to Xbox 360 vs Xbox one changes
-own internal social network where a Facebook like theme is present that allows friends and followers to post video, screenshots, create videos, video commentary, stream video gameplay, but where text is limited to a finite amount of characters.
-The included DVR, video adds, video streaming marketing and sharing of such within the network which none was available on the xbox 360
-The xbox 360 has a first party chat-pad that was later developed and released but with the xbox one, no such product is available. There is a third party product but even from thousands of suggestions and votes to add this, it was never done.
-smart phones, cars and consoles games are now video centered. Even the cable boxes, or support help sites for many electronic companies are videos on a sub stick or video files on their support website.
The world is changing in a different direction for communication.
While companies realize they will need to market to different communities, you will continue to see more and more aggressive change.
My parents fought the internet, smart phones and tablets for years. Now each has all three.
The companies I work for (large Insurance company, PGA and NFL) are now video centric vs written text.

If your not playing on the consoles srsly stop posting on threads like this.
If you are and did not play the beta then again chill and wait for the release.

On PC, for me as I've shared in many other threads a few minutes.
I'm aware that others have had nightmare wait times but the tool only works based off participation and a 4 level min/max by selections.
The bigger issue is that people are choosing to utilize zone chat as a grouping tool thus this causes a very negative impact for everyone.
Consoles will be very different, how different, IDK but the experiences will differ due to the obvious around what communication options exist.
BUT.....this topic isn't about any of that.
What are your thoughts on the article that this thread hopes to discuss?

Im also planning on playing the console, I already purchased my transfer..
But I did not play the beta.. I keep hearing how the design is brilliant and such from people who did play the beta, but yet why is it such a secret?
Ok, so no text chat.. I really dont care as long as they included some other way to do the things we would normally do in text chat on pc- such as selling items, looking for guilds, looking for items, asking for help with a world boss, dolmen etc etc
My pc experienced brain can not figure out how this is done without text chat, so curiosity is getting the best of me here and I think if those who did beta would just explain how these things are done in the console version, it may go a long way to setting some minds at ease.. well, mine anyway

You're comparing technology as a whole to text chat in a video game.
Your whole argument is invalid anyway because while tech is growing an changing, all that communication tech for the most part still has text chat in some form, these days we use phones more for txting eachother, leaving messages on social media, sending emails and things like that then we do for actually making calls.
The Xbox One didn't get a keypad, you're right, you know what it did get?
Smartglass, so you among other things you could use your phone or tablet as a keyboard, same deal with the ps4.
When watching streamers, we still written text.
When commenting on youtube videos we still use written text.

If I discover a Dolmen while playing solo I must leave and travel back to town post a bubble above my head "want to group" but when I do I find they want to do dungeons and I want the dolmen so we disband or I resort to yelling in the mic in the town centre? Are those the only ways to solve that problem because I don't remember the group tool being able to help with anything other than dungeons

keep reading... This thread is actually about the radial pre-set text emote and a few others want to focus on text chat only not being in the console version. That isn't what this is about but as I continue to say...comment as you please. I'm sharing relevant information about this topic and that article, tho old addresses consoles, among other devices and trends around communication and even references MMO games
In this thread, I'd prefer you not try to pull out anything without reading the whole article and after doing so, go ahead and comment on what you intend on discussing. Read the whole article based on what the company hopes to share from their research and then maybe share or respond about the topic at hand or not....

It just seems to me the problem is not that your telling me a different way to do the things I do, but rather saying (in a polite and indirect sort of way) that I will not be able to do them anymore... unless I am still missing something, voice chats (which is not suitable to me in this particular game for reasons mentioned) and emotes are not a 'different way' of doing zone advertisements, in fact other than rp (which I dont usually engage in) Im not sure what these are good for? Not to mention unsolicited 'invite to trade' is something I would not do, and would not be happy if people started doing to me.
You give good explanations on how to find friends to play with, but unfortunately Im not looking for this. As mentioned Im just a solo pve'r who mainly crafts and likes to find/sell stuff, but sometimes wants to go out and kill some things And every once in a while I want to kill something that is much bigger than me, so I would like to ask for help, but when its dead I just want to shake hands, say thanks to those who help, than go on my way alone again..But this is my playstyle..
The image you give me of console eso is its different in that there will be very little socializing with those one does not already know and that trade and/or guildplay here will be just a small and almost unnoticeable part of the game..That the real game is for a very small group of close friends to be running around together questing, killing things, doing dungeons etc then they can run to town with whatever loot they grabbed, sell to nearest merchant, then run back out to kill some more things..
Not saying this is a bad thing, in fact it sounds kinda like the 'Skyrim Online' that many were looking for in the beginning and were disappointed the pc version was not..it could work out well then..
Im not sure my playstyle can adjust to it though, however I will still give it a try anyway and I thank you for taking the time to answer questions, it did help me get a better idea of what this is about..
