First, thanks for digging this up. Yup, you read that right Smurf!!
Now, I knew...as you did...this was how they were implementing Quick Chat. This is really lame. Imagine this in town with 50 people standing around. Chat bubbles everywhere, overlapping each other. And only if you are turned in the correct direction to see these chat bubbles. Also, distance...if you are close enough.
Then you'll have those that just spam the largest phrase over and over trying to cover up others chat bubbles. Happened in wow, this is why it was short-lived. Turned it off quick.
And the phrases...really? That's what we are starting with? There are so many that never will get used. 'Tank the Boss'?? LOL if you have to select that during a fight, first...the tank isn't facing you to see that depending on the boss...and second, you're already dead if you are trying to get that quickchat off and getting into the view of the supposed tank.
It's just a poor alternative to a regular text chatbox. I'm done arguing that though.

That was kind of an important feature in the beta, and I hope we won't have to open the journal, pick the quest, confirm tracked, then back out of the journal just to change what quest shows up. Still, between Cycle Quest or Quick Chat menu, I do prefer the Quick Chat menu.
In the beta this was assigned to right d-pad, and the article says nothing about it.
Cycle Quest is still mapped to the right d-pad. To cycle, you just tap on the d-pad, and to access Quick Chat you need to hold it down.
Edit: Whoops, didn't realize @NewBlacksmurf beat me to it!
So wait, if your on Pacific time, you won't be able to login for a full 4 hours after eastern time zone?
Man.. people are gunna be upset about not being able to get their names because some one else had several hours of advantage on them...

I'm going to leave it to your imagination....but just use some of these quotes to form a chat bubble barrage.
People might just give up on communication and run around like Yahoos (yes, that's another reference to the same book), fighting everything that moves and collecting shiny stones for themselves. The other project was, a scheme for entirely abolishing all words whatsoever; and this was urged as a great advantage in point of health, as well as brevity. For it is plain, that every word we speak is, in some degree, a diminution of our lunge by corrosion, and, consequently, contributes to the shortening of our lives. An expedient was therefore offered, “that since words are only names for things, it would be more convenient for all men to carry about them such things as were necessary to express a particular business they are to discourse on.”

Without knowing what that person wanted to trade, would I ever take that offer? Probably not.
I see tons of problems with a clunky, non-specific chat system in a game as complex as ESO. Only being able to say 22 things, and only having easy access to 8 of those phrases at a time, would make me feel stupid. I even had a flashback to this passage from "Gulliver's Travels", describing a project to simplify communication in a way that would obviously not work:People might just give up on communication and run around like Yahoos (yes, that's another reference to the same book), fighting everything that moves and collecting shiny stones for themselves. The other project was, a scheme for entirely abolishing all words whatsoever; and this was urged as a great advantage in point of health, as well as brevity. I'm sure people will trade not knowing what's for trade but there are other better options via guild stores IMO

Easy fix. There needs to be a custom quick chat where you can write in your own text in the pre made bubbles. Only that could be tedious with no keyboard to type out custom quick chat.

But this already exists on consoles. If you want to go over tech you could msg someone and take a screenshot (on Xbox One at least)
Edit:
Not directed at you but I often wonder if the complaints are from ppl who are familiar with the consoles system features.
ZOS has done a great job on this using what exists and filling in the gaps with their additions

Bubbles vs chat box (just the visual presentation)
Isn't it the same with a different position on the screen ?
AND it doesn't stay on the screen blocking your view
Pre-typed text vs manual typing
-Huge difference as far as time and simplifies interactions

Huh? No, they look atrocious and pop up at random at various spots on the screen, while having no real communication value as people can't actually type out what they want to say with a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse as both consoles officially support in the first place. So now not only do we have randomly pre-set phrase bubbles that appear/disappear at various spots, but still no text communication for trade or chat. Comparatively the chat box could be minimized at will already anyways, could already fade away when not in use on the PC (including the box and text inside of it), etc. and was far superior. Unfortunately, this is another example of fixing what isn't broken... on the PC they pulled out the minimap options, seeing how much damage you're even hitting for or is on your health bar, etc. Now they've just taken the whole thing a step further for the worse with the console ports.... .

The systems have built in text chat already it's just not in the way you're use to seeing it on the PC version of TESO BUt it's very consistent to what is normal on console games regardless of the game type
It has worked and continues to work
By comparison I personally feel negative about the text chat on PC
To each its own but I do like what we will experience come June 9th. Maybe you'll join us on one of the systems you've purchased the game on too

Not sure what the hate is all about but the Console version is bloody unreal it blew all my expectations but if they put in a pc chat system i would be very disappointed because between the beta and the pics above its great.

Plus if someone does not like it the console version then go back to pc.
I'd prefer not to have a pc copy and just enjoy the hard work zos has done for consoles.
Edit: i am Mofojokers
Yeah agree the only reason i can see hate for the consoles is the pc players that.NewBlacksmurf wrote: »NewBlacksmurf wrote: »Attorneyatlawl wrote: »NewBlacksmurf wrote: »traigusb14_ESO2 wrote: »I hate bubbles, especially in non-cartoony games, but I'll deal.

I've been saying this but ZOS doesn't like it so I'll say it in another way
We have three different presentations of the same game designed in ways to meet the needs of different customer bases.
If one doesn't suit your desires another should closely align....great times and hope you find your fit!

I see the following possible combination of quick chats from the available options.
Hello. Get close. Spread out. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Good job. Goodbye. Self-congratulate.

Each individual will see something as waste or boon. But since they will be different views I think there should be a full rebinding option for consoles/pc controller so users can custom bind to their preference.pecheckler wrote: »Still no:

These quick chat feature is a simple band-aid. I just don't get why we can't have full text chat in a guild. Make it optional. Serious traders MUST have a way to trade outside of voice chat and guild stores. Maybe not a big issue at launch since PC to console transfers can find ways to communicate elsewhere until chat or trade features are released... but once the majority of players start hitting VR ranks and there is still no good method of trading this game is gonna be in big trouble.
Also, the cycle quest button is a waste. Nobody is going to use it. Please let that be the first target for the inevitable key-rebinding feature.
