Without knowing what that person wanted to trade, would I ever take that offer? Probably not.
I see tons of problems with a clunky, non-specific chat system in a game as complex as ESO. Only being able to say 22 things, and only having easy access to 8 of those phrases at a time, would make me feel stupid. I even had a flashback to this passage from "Gulliver's Travels", describing a project to simplify communication in a way that would obviously not work:People might just give up on communication and run around like Yahoos (yes, that's another reference to the same book), fighting everything that moves and collecting shiny stones for themselves. The other project was, a scheme for entirely abolishing all words whatsoever; and this was urged as a great advantage in point of health, as well as brevity. For it is plain, that every word we speak is, in some degree, a diminution of our lunge by corrosion, and, consequently, contributes to the shortening of our lives. An expedient was therefore offered, “that since words are only names for things, it would be more convenient for all men to carry about them such things as were necessary to express a particular business they are to discourse on.”
The text chat wheel really looks to initiate conversation
No diff than what ppl do on PC the opportunity still exists for them to add the possibilities to link an item in the radial chat.
Give them time
Those phrases offer no help to pvp at all.
I'm prepared to go in with an open mind, but I really really can't see pvp working without faction wide chat.p
They could do something with a chat wheel whereby you quickly select mine, keep etc, then it's name from a list (there aren't that many names in Cyrodiil) then under siege, then by which faction etc. Maybe having pvp chat channels available that a group can create, but also invite people from other groups.
This would stop chat abuse and allow various groups to all coordinate together.

EverQuest Online on the Playstation 2 had chats.
Pretty much anyone who was actually interested in the game had a keyboard.
Back then I had a wired USB keyboard with a 6' usb extension, now you can buy a cheap wireless keyboard for the price I paid for the kb and extension.
EverQuest Online Adventures lasted over 10 years with only one expansion and that came out within the first year.
A lot of players would log on just to chat with friends. My Wife and I made a bunch of friends in that game and a few we still talk to every so often.
Voice chat on Xbox live is so irritating, people screaming, complaining, heavy breathing, singing, talking smack and just plain trying to annoy everyone they could makes most people not even use it unless they are with real life friends and I have not made a friend on Xbox live in over a year since no one talks anymore.
Community is what makes a MMO last....even if chat is often filled with Chuck Norris jokes lol

See you keep saying things along the lines of "This is the console version, so it HAS to be different" or "Its not the pc version, so its better this way".
Buts thats not really true, its not like this is the first mmo on consoles.
Both DCUO and FFXIV are on console, both have text chat windows, and both work well with them, and if you aren't one for chat windows, they can be ignored or disabled.
More options isn't a bad thing, hell even the quickchat menu isn't a bad idea, but totally ignoring text chat is.
Another thing people keep saying is if you don't like that it doesn't have text chat then play it on the pc, but thats not an option for everyone.
I would bet most of the people planning on playing console don't have a great pc which is WHY they are playing on console, and those people shouldn't get a lesser game because they choose to play on console.
Its not something like addon's, which are all user created stuff and the consoles don't have ways to facilitate that sort of thing, just like mods for other games, its text chat, something that is built into the game, and can function on consoles both with a controller or a keyboard, but is just absent, for a reason we don't even know.
Another thing that annoys me is when people try to compare this to things like GTAV, CoD or Destiny.
An mmo that can have potentially hundreds of people talking at once is very different from a lobby of 10-30 people.
The fact that most of the time a lot of people that voice chat in those games aren't great to listen to.
