I have two subbed accounts, and was not online during either the "pet" or the "senche" ads.

I am a subscriber (although it is due to expire and I won't be renewing) and I saw it.

ugh. I was hoping this sort of advertising was only happening to people without subs, even though it still isn't the best way to market products for the game since it does completely ruin immersion while the ad runs. The ads on the launcher I am more than fine with, pretty much every game does that. The email blasts that I get are also acceptable but bothering people while in the midst of the game is not. :(

B2P/F2P is so similar. LOTRO is considered F2P, but I bought the box... then when LoTRO became F2P I got some coins and some loyalty items... ESO I bought the box and when it became "B2P" I got some crowns and loyalty items... so for people who bought the game and got the items ESO is F2P now... just like LoTRO.

This type of advertising is seen in F2P games... (usually in nicer looking ads). This yellow text is trashy and makes ESO look as bad as the bad F2P games. Not a game that ESO should have been spending millions of dollars on a triple A title with the Elder Scrolls name.

Except it's not for those of us who continue to subscribe. It's a huge pile of poop to send these across the screens of people who are paying for a subscription.

You can't bend over for this though, because the game companies just keep pushing it further and further. Kids play these games. Is this what we want video games to be like for our kids - all about getting the money, online shopping malls with horses and armor?

It doesn't bother me so much really. I would rather them make the crown flash when there is something new in there like the mail does. You open it up and see the new item listen on the front page. When you close it the flashing goes away. For people who wish to cancel or quit playing over something like this...well it was a matter of time before you left anyway. I love the game too much to let something so trivial interfere with that.

You all need to take a deep breath, maybe even go outside in the sunlight for a few minutes and think about how you are acting.

After reading a few comments, I'm glad I left.

SW:TOR is a F2P game which I do subscribe to, but I don't get annoying ads while playing.

Any hint of anything new? It's been almost six months since they added COA. It's still two months before the consoles get released.

Feel screwed over yet? If not, you should. I've gotten more content since December in SW:TOR than ESO has released in a year. I have more coming in the next two to three wees.

I think the problem was that they released the game way way way too early, they honestly should have spent a lot longer continuing to test, gather feedback and conducting thorough QA, you only really get one chance in an MMO, and they did not take it well.

Nah they simply made the game hard to enjoy and choosed to go with stuff people didnt want. Just the phasing system alone turned away people as soon as they walked into the game.

People had relevant criticism even back in beta about these things but ZoS seem to listened more to the white knights of the game.

If people wanted it to be f2p they would be back now playing, and while some have returned(like me) most simply doesnt bother with eso any more.

I'm surprised people are more angry about the on-screen message than such a narrow window of availability of the Leopard Senche. As a Day 1 subscriber, I'm more than a little annoyed that I just blew my stack of 4k Crowns a week before this unannounced, limited-time mount came out. Now I have 2 horse mounts, 1 guar mount, and a panther pet I could have waited to get anytime instead. Now I have to throw down $25 on top of my $15 a month to get a limited time mount that's available for less than a week? That just isn't right. This is bad business practice ZOS. You can't just do these limited time, over such a short period of time, and not give us some kind of announcement. I defended you ZOS over what you did with the Imperial Edition, but you're sure making it hard to defend your cash grabs.

That's because B2P/F2P is all about tricking people and coercing them into buying things which is why subs are better. You think they didn't time the release of that limited time mount to have the exact effect you experienced? They knew people would use up their crowns and be forced to give them more money if they wanted to get the mount before time ran out. Why else make it limited time?

Oh, I know. That's exactly why I'm upset by it. It's a complete corporate money grab. Nothing more and nothing less.

If they do this every month, this game turns into a $40 a month game - an outrageous price for any game. Not to mention, where do they draw the line? If this tactic is successful at making them money, they clearly will continue to use it, as they have continued to over the last year.

Part of me being upset is also the fact that I stood up for ZOS during the whole Imperial Edition incident. I'm sad to say that ShoddyCast and AngryJoe were right. I was wrong. I staked my reputation on the line in honest belief that marketing wouldn't supersede the developers at ZOS. I honestly and genuinely feel bad for the devs.

Before anyone handwaves me out of the forums, here's my proof:

ESO could learn a LOT from going to look at LotRO's Game Shop.

Far less intrusive, a way to earn Turbine Points (Crowns) in-game without paying cash (once people have a few for free they are more likely to pay for some, especially if there is good - as in genuinely useful - stuff in the store).

I've recently fallen out of love with LotRO, but I still think their in-game store model is the best I have seen.

Now, could we do this smarter? In-game email or something like that? We would love to, but currently we don't have that ability. We have heard your feedback and will be working on smarter messaging for future events but for this weekend, this is what we are going with. There aren't very many of these special events and we want to make sure people have a chance to participate. We felt it was the least disruptive being only once per day but most effective given the tools we have now.
You don't have the ability to mass-send mail to players? Even though you have done so in the past with every loyalty reward? Good Lord.

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback. We want to make sure everyone is aware that the Senche-Leopard is available - and only for a short time - so nobody misses out on the opportunity. We only plan on messaging this once per day, and want to hit each language (EN, DE, and FR) as these are multilingual megaservers.

So basically you're just going to do it anyway. Despite it being annoying and customer complaints.

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to stop in and put some detail and context around the in-game announcements this weekend. Like Gina said - it's once a day on each server in 3 languages. (5 languages? We don't even speak 5 languages) Tomorrow is the last day of this and really the last day of the WBW.

In our experience, whenever we do anything that has a limited way for folks to get something cool in-game people get really upset if they miss their chance to get it. We are using several methods to make sure everyone knows, but people don't always read their emails, they pay zero attention to the patcher or login screen messages (click click click START GAME!) and we wanted to do our best to make sure people who want the leopard senche could get it.

Now, could we do this smarter? In-game email or something like that? We would love to, but currently we don't have that ability. We have heard your feedback and will be working on smarter messaging for future events but for this weekend, this is what we are going with. We felt it was the least disruptive being only once per day but most effective given the tools we have now.

As always, thanks for the feedback. Without you playing the game and giving feedback we wouldn't have come as far as we have in the last year. Just please, keep it constructive, keep it factual, and be understanding of the fact that it is a game full of varied people with varied interests and desires. The 3 second sever message that you might twitch at is the one message that let another player know he could get a sweet sweet senche-leopard. He's only jealous of your senche-tiger he can't get after all.

I am a ESO Plus member and I have to say that I really don't mind the on screen ad's, however what I don't get is why Zenimax can write such a detailed replay to a simple thing like on screen advertisement when another thread has been on the forums for over a month now with out an replay from the developers.

    forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/157157/update-on-cyrodiil-performance/p1

The issue in this thread is what Zenimax should be paying the most attention to, they lose customers every day due to the horrible performance players experience. As a paying customer I want to be kept updated on what Zenimax is doing regarding this game breaking performance issue! It has 20.4K views and 423 replays from players, 1 replay from Zenimax same day the thread was created!

I am sorry if this is out of context with the topic of this thread, and for being the elephant in the room by bringing this up. But when I saw this detailed replay to such an minor issue (imo) I could not resist the urge to say something.

Err.., thank you for suggesting the option I had already flagged in the last sentence, I guess...

I had intended that implicit in my response would be the idea that there was a contradiction in ZOS's approach that I hoped could be reconciled without my dropping my sub.

So, they can finish the game while getting payed for it and get it tested. All it was needed was some PR, like "We feel ESO should be SUB only", to placate us.

There are no good cosmetics (costumes). Armor that already exists in the game is considered a poor effort and not worth money.

Seriously, just give us a GW2-style wardrobe feature and sell transmutation charges. Those all-or-nothing costumes are a weak solution anyway.

IMO breaking into the market if you are going to do something it has to be on par with what is available at minimum and to be a selling point it has to be better. The costumes for sale are lackluster at best. I don't know abt GW2, but LOTRO you can at least dye the stuff, allowing you to customize it to yourself and not look the same as 50 other Joe Blows who bought it too. Here there are a handful of costumes and what you buy is all you get, same as whomever else buys it.

On top of that some gear has been broken as far as dyes since they introduced the dye system....Naryu's armor was all black. I mean if you are going to sell it for real money, get up off it and fix it first.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

DCUO allows you to formulate your own costumes enabling you to pick individual chest, head, weapon, legs, shoulders, hands, waist and feet styles in addition to picking colors to dye them from a hexadecimal based color palette. There are skin, hair and makeup customizations too. All of that is part of the free game.

The costume system could be really great in ESO. It needs to cater to the more classic Elder Scrolls styles though or cool end game styles. Ebony Armor(Skyrim), Imperial Dragon Armor and Nightingale/DB armor costumes would be a good start.

I also conjured up an idea for a custom costume "Tailor" in-game. An Altmer with a high sense of fashion, similar to the attitude of that storekeeper in Solitude(Skyrim) in 4e or maybe a distant ancestor, has a kiosk where players can choose from styles in the game. Once they have an individual style of each type including head, shoulders, gloves, legs, chest, belt and feet selected from a dropdown of various styles with dyes selected in the game they have the ability to confirm and craft that costume for 1000 Crowns or something cheaper.

The costumes and items in the store are so bleh that my initial crown allotment hasn't been touched and probably won't be either.
